Sean Troha Wins Event #69: $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Championship ($1,246,770)

Nível 32 : Blinds 150,000/300,000, 300,000 ante

Sean Troha of North Olmstead, Ohio has completed an incredible final table comeback to defeat Shiva Dudani and claim his first WSOP gold bracelet and the $1,246,770 first prize in Event #69: $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Championship. It was the very first WSOP gold bracelet for Troha and certainly made it count with a seven-figure payday.

The biggest $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Championship in the history of the World Series of Poker attracted a record attendance of 683 unique entries and the biggest slice of the $6,368,975 prize pool was awarded on the final day, which brought back five contestants. Troha was the second-shortest stack upon return and still had 42 big blinds at his disposal, yet the action was fast-paced from the get-go.

At two points on the final table today, Troha needed to hit a two-outer to survive, and did so both times against eventual runner-up Dudani en route to his inconceivable victory.

With prior career WSOP earnings of $270,226, this is far and away Troha's biggest career tournament score.

When asked if he can put into words what the victory feels like, he was somewhat lost for words initially. "Probably not, I am usually not a man of many words at the table. I have been coming out here for a lot of years and haven't won any [bracelet], hopefully this makes up for all of that," Troha said shortly after his victory.

Also featured among the final five were Norway's Joachim Haraldstad, Tom Hu and Michael Duek. All of them were eliminated by the red-hot running Dudani, who started the final day as the chip leader but was ultimately unable to close it out after a one-sided heads-up duel with Troha. He had to settle for a consolation prize of $770,556, which was still the far biggest cash in his live poker career.

Troha participated in the $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Championship for the third time and also entered the $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo Championship but only had one cash during the 2022 WSOP in its new home at Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas in Event #58: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better to his name.

"You have no control over this kind of thing, I am just super lucky and super blessed to be here. I have been working very hard on my game and this is the pay-off," Troha added in the winner interview.

He came into the day as the second-shortest stack with plenty of big blinds to his name and didn't seem too fazed about the relentless aggression of Dudani, who was seemingly running over the table.

"I thought a lot of the things could have happened and I wasn't sure what I was gonna do but I just kinda felt the moment and won a lot of hands early on, that freed me up a bit and made things easier. I also had a great run of cards," Troha added.

The domination by Dudani helped Troha "a little bit" and he described his heads-up opponent as very aggressive for a while". As the lead of Dudani grew, the eliminations came very quickly and the final table was soon down to the final three players with Dudani holding three quarters of the chips in play.

He was responsible for the knockout of Joachim Haraldstad and Tom Hu within fewer than 20 minutes. Dudani first came from behind with inferior two pair to eliminate the Norwegian and then caught Hu with a move when he turned a full house.

However, the tides changed soon after that with one massive chip leader and two short stacks trying to fight their way back in. While Michael Duek remained passive, it was Troha who tried to pounce on the chip leader and he scored a first double up with double-suited ace-king against the double-suited kings of Dudani thanks to a two-outer on the river.

"A lot of the hands played itself, we were down to three very soon," Troha remarked when asked upon the two crucial double-ups. The second lucky punch against Dudani in which he gained the lead saw more than half of his stack in before the flop in a spot where the "all-in on the flop was almost always going to happen".

This time, he was in trouble with just the top pair against the middle set of Dudani but he turned a set of kings to prevail once more. After that, the momentum during three-handed play certainly changed and it was now Troha who dominated the action with his lead.

Dudani earned some chips back by knocking out Duek in third place and entered the heads-up duel with a minor chip disadvantage. But from there on, Troha had the best of it on multiple occasions and it took just one hour to determine a champion from there on out.

The latest gold bracelet winner will certainly give the 2022 WSOP $10,000 Main Event a shot, perhaps even as soon as Day 1d, despite not having played a lot of Hold'em hands in his poker career. Pot-Limit Omaha has been the main game of Troha for the past seven years and he will now celebrate the victory with his fiends before returning to the 2022 WSOP at Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas for a new and different challenge in the days to come.

While this concludes the PokerNews coverage for this event, the several other tournaments are still to come with nearly two dozen WSOP gold bracelets still up for grabs. All of the exclusive updates and results can be found in the 2022 WSOP live reporting hub.

Shiva Dudani Eliminated in 2nd Place ($770,556)

Nível 32 : Blinds 150,000/300,000, 300,000 ante
Shiva Dudani
Shiva Dudani

The new level brought small pots with it and both essentially traded the chips back and forth with Sean Troha retaining his lead over Shiva Dudani.

What followed was a button limp by Dudani and Troha raised the pot to 900,000 for Dudani to call.

On a flop of {j-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}, Troha checked and Dudani asked for the size of the pot before he bet 1,200,000 into 2,100,000. Troha raised the pot and then called the shove by Dudani for around seven million.

Shiva Dudani: {k-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}
Sean Troha: {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}

The {9-Clubs} on the turn improved Dudani to jacks and nines but the {q-Clubs} on the river gave Troha queens and jacks to earn the victory. Dudani has to settle for a runner-up finish worth $770,556 and Troha wins his first WSOP gold bracelet, which comes with a top prize worth $1,246,770.

Michael Duek Eliminated in 3rd Place ($548,015)

Nível 31 : Blinds 125,000/250,000, 250,000 ante
Michael Duek
Michael Duek

After Shiva Dudani limped his small blind and Michael Duek checked his big blind, the flop came {2-Spades}{5-Spades}{7-Clubs}, and Dudani checked.

Duek bet 750,000 from his dwindling stack and Dudani came back with a pot-sized check-raise. Duek quickly moved the rest of his chips in and put himself at risk.

Michael Duek: {k-Spades}{9-Spades}{9-Clubs}{6-Hearts}
Shiva Dudani: {7-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}

Dudani held top two pair while Duek held an overpair of nines, a flush draw, and a gutshot straight draw.

Despite his many outs, Duek couldn't connect with the {a-Clubs} turn or the {j-Clubs} river to end his day in third place and send the tournament to heads-up play between Dudani and Sean Troha.

Troha Scores Dramatic Double Through Dudani Once More

Nível 31 : Blinds 125,000/250,000, 250,000 ante
Sean Troha
Sean Troha

Sean Troha limp-called a pot-sized raise by Shiva Dudani in a battle of the blinds and check-folded the {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}{9-Hearts} flop when facing a bet worth 700,000.

One hand later, Troha raised to 500,000 on the button and Dudani three-bet the pot to 1,750,000 in the small blind. It folded back to Troha who repotted to 5,500,000 and that sent Dudani into a brief tank as he studied the remaining stack of his previous foe.

Dudani then called and checked the {a-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} flop before calling the shove by Troha for 4,500,000.

"Aces?" Dudani inquired as he rolled over his {q-Hearts}{q-Spades}{10-Spades}{10-Diamonds} for a set of tens. Troha, however, was caught with a move as he tabled the {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}{k-Hearts}{7-Hearts} only.

His rail shouted for a king and sure enough that's what came on the {k-Clubs} turn. Dudani now needed the case ten or a jack to avoid another major setback but Troha held up on the blank {4-Diamonds} river to double into the lead.

Troha Doubles Through Dudani With Miracle River

Nível 30 : Blinds 100,000/200,000, 200,000 ante
Sean Troha
Sean Troha

After Shiva Dudani raised his small blind limp to 600,000, Sean Troha limp-potted to 1,700,000. Dudani then bet the pot, and Troha called off for 5,225,000 total.

Sean Troha: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{8-Spades}{6-Spades}
Shiva Dudani: {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}

Troha was in rough shape unless black cards or an ace came.

The {10-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} flop brought minimal help, and the {10-Diamonds} turn left Troha drawing solely to the ace of hearts or the ace of spades, as the ace of diamonds would give Dudani a winning flush.

The dealer then burned and dramatically dragged the {a-Hearts} across the board and laid it on the river as Troha's rail erupted in celebration, as their man has now rebuilt his stack to over ten million chips.

Dudani Pulls Further Ahead; Troha Now Very Short

Nível 29 : Blinds 100,000/150,000, 150,000 ante
Shiva Dudani
Shiva Dudani

Shiva Dudani raised to 450,000 on the button and was called by Sean Troha in the big blind. On a flop of {q-Spades}{j-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}, Troha checked and then folded when Dudani bet 400,000.

In the very next hand, Troha limped the small blind and Dudani raised to 450,000 for Troha to call. They headed to the {k-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{3-Clubs} flop on which Troha check-called a bet worth 400,000. The {k-Hearts} followed on the turn and Troha check-called another bet worth 700,000, albeit reluctantly.

Once the {9-Diamonds} fell on the river, Troha checked the third street in a row. Dudani now asked for the size of the pot and then bet 2,200,000 into 3,250,000. This sent Troha deep into the tank for more than four minutes. He eventually made the call and Dudani rolled over {k-Spades}{8-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} for a full house to win the next big pot.

Tom Hu Eliminated in 4th Place ($395,465)

Nível 29 : Blinds 100,000/150,000, 150,000 ante
Tom Hu
Tom Hu

Shiva Dudani continues to steamroll the final table with the elimination of Tom Hu in a huge pot that's seen him now take over two-thirds of the chips in play.

After Michael Duek opened to 350,000 from the cutoff, Hu called from the small blind. Dudani then bet the size of the pot (1,400,000), getting a fold from Duek, but Hu decided to call and see a flop.

That flop came {9-Spades}{8-Spades}{6-Diamonds}, and both players checked. The turn {6-Spades} brought possibilities, pairing the board and bringing three to a flush.

Hu now led out for 500,000 and Dudani called.

With over 4,000,000 now in the pot, on the {q-Clubs} river, Hu moved all-in for 3,875,000.

The rail closed in on the table to observe the massive pot, and after Dudani got an exact count, he called.

Hu showed {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} for a rivered two pair of queens and eights.

Dudani showed {q-Spades}{8-Hearts}{6-Spades}{5-Hearts} for a rivered full house of sixes over queens to win the massive pot and eliminate Hu in fourth place.

Joachim Haraldstad

The action started with a button raise to 450,000 by Shiva Dudani and Joachim Haraldstad called out of the big blind with some 1,600,000 behind. They headed to a flop of {k-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{9-Hearts} on which Haraldstad checked and Dudani bet the pot for 1,150,000.

Haraldstad studied his short stack for half a minute and pushed all-in, Dudani essentially beat him into the pot.

Joachim Haraldstad: {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{9-Clubs}{6-Hearts}
Shiva Dudani: {q-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{j-Spades}{9-Spades}

"Queen, jack, ten," Dudani mentioned when he was checking for his outs while the rail near the Horseshoe tables came closer to watch the showdown unfold. Sure enough, the {q-Spades} appeared right away on the turn and the {5-Clubs} river ended the run of Haraldstad in fifth place for $289,630.

New WSOP Champion to be Crowned Tuesday in $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Championship

WSOP Bracelet
WSOP Bracelet

Just five players remain to battle for the top prize of $1,246,770 and a prestigious World Series of Poker bracelet on the final day of Event #69: $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Championship (8-handed). They have fought their way through the largest and most star-studded field in the illustrious history of this event, and with 678 of the 683 entries already in their wake, these are the players left to duel for WSOP glory.

Shiva Dudani (United States) Chip Leader - 15,650,000

Shiva Dudani
Shiva Dudani

Chicago resident Dudani comes in with both the chip lead and arguably the most accomplished poker resume of the final five players. He has career WSOP earnings of $711,391, which includes a pair of WSOP Circuit rings and 40 career cashes (23 in Las Vegas, 17 on the Circuit).

The highlight of his career to this point was winning the 2020 WSOP Circuit Main Event in Hammond, Indiana, for $258,078.

Michael Duek (Argentina) – 2nd in chips – 9,405,000

Michael Duek
Michael Duek

With just $60,824 and three career cashes to his name, Duek may have the least acclaimed WSOP resume of the final five, but that’s set to change in a big way Tuesday, with him having locked up at least $289,630 for fifth place money, nearly quintupling his previous earnings.

Duek is by no means inexperienced or unaccomplished in the game of Pot-Limit Omaha, as one of those three cashes is in the $25,000 PLO High Roller, where he finished 31st for $44,253.

Tom Hu (United States) – 3rd in chips – 7,330,000

Tom Hu
Tom Hu

Hu comes into today’s action with 8 previous WSOP cashes under his belt for a total of $112,818, including a 24th place finish in this event in 2014 for $28,290.

He has also cashed in a WSOP Pot-Limit Omaha High Roller event, finishing 21st in the 2017 edition for $42,393 and has a WSOP Main Event cash in 2013 (450th - $24,480).

Sean Troha (United States) – 4th in chips – 5,045,000

Sean Troha
Sean Troha

Troha also enters play with two WSOP Circuit rings on his record as he looks to add a bracelet to his WSOP jewelry collection.
With $270,226 in career WSOP earnings split nearly equally over 29 cashes between Las Vegas and the Circuit (16 Las Vegas / 13 Circuit), he comes in with a well-rounded poker resume, including a recent 2nd place finish in the $400 PLO Circuit event in Cherokee, North Carolina for $12,728. He also has a deep run in the 2015 Millionaire Maker where he finished 15th for $71,400.

Joachim Haraldstad (Norway) – 5th in chips – 3,580,000

Joachim Haraldstad
Joachim Haraldstad

Haraldstad is primarily an online player whose first live WSOP cash is certainly going to be a memorable one, regardless of where he finishes Tuesday. He comes in with $349,455 in online cashes from WSOP online international series events on GGPoker and, somewhat surprisingly, only three of his 13 reported online WSOP cashes are in Pot-Limit Omaha.

He has one notable live cash when he defeated a field of 342 players to take down the 2021 10,000kr No-Limit Hold’em High Roller at the 2021 Norwegian Poker Championships for 530,000kr ($62,958).

It's Almost Go Time!

The action gets underway at 2 p.m. local time inside the Bally’s Event Center with 11:09 remaining in Level 28 with blinds of 60,000/120,000 with 120,000 big blind ante.

PokerNews will have all the action, so keep your browsers locked right here for the thrilling conclusion as another bracelet is awarded at the 53rd World Series of Poker from its new home at Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas.
