Ryan Leng Poised for a Repeat as Michael Dobbs Leads on Day 2

Ryan Leng
Ryan Leng

Defending champion Ryan Leng was all in for his tournament life, his hopes of repeating hanging on a draw against top set.

The miracle royal flush on the turn propelled Leng up the chip count leaderboard on his way to entering Day 2 with 151,500, his quest to go back-to-back in this event still alive.

Just 199 players stand between Leng and another bracelet when Event #48: $1,500 Eight Game Mix resumes at 2 p.m. local time inside the Bally’s Event Center. Leading the way is Michael Dobbs, who turned his 25,000 starting stack into 293,100 heading into Day 2.

An impressive field of top pros are among the 200 surviving players out of a starting field of 695. Robert Campbell, the 2019 Player of the Year, is just outside the top-10 on the leaderboard with 181,800. Scotty Nguyen (160,800), recent bracelet winner Ali Eslami (130,000), and Josh Arieh (119,300) also carry comfortable stacks into the day. Adam Friedman (63,000), Shaun Deeb (60,900), and Maria Ho (60,000) have their work cut out for them on below-average stacks.

Day 2 will consist of 10 hour-long levels, with a 60-minute dinner break at the conclusion of Level 21, which should come around 8:30 p.m. The first order of business will be to narrow the field down to the 105 players who will finish in the money. Then it’s a race to the final table.

PokerNews will be on hand throughout the day chronicling Leng’s attempt at a repeat performance and the rest of the field’s attempt to stop him and enjoy their own WSOP glory.

No-Limit Hold’em

Jeremy Ausmus raised under the gun, and the action folded around to David Lu in the small blind. Lu raised all in and had Scott Seiver covered when he too slid his short stack into the middle.

Lu proceeded to turn over his hand, not realizing that Ausmus was still to act. After seeing the hand, Ausmus called and all three holdings were revealed.

David Lu: {j-Diamonds}{8-Spades}
Scott Seiver: {k-Clubs}{5-Spades}
Jeremy Ausmus: {k-Diamonds}{10-Spades}

The flop of {a-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{3-Spades} kept Ausmus in the lead, as did the {7-Diamonds} turn. Seiver then hit the {5-Hearts} river to stay alive, while Ausmus knocked out Lu.

Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better

Joshua Ray and Jake Liebeskind traded raises until they hit the maximum after the {9-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} flop, leaving Ray with just one bet left. Ray tossed it in dark, and Liebeskind called.

Joshua Ray: {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}
Jake Liebeskind: {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{8-Spades}

Ray was ahead with plenty of outs to fade, and Liebeskind hit one with the {10-Hearts} turn. The river {2-Hearts} paired the board, leaving Ray with a missed low draw and finishing on the direct bubble.

After the elimination, Liebeskind told PokerNews that "he hopes his dad is proud". The remaining 105 players will earn a minimum of $2,403.

Buchman bet 31,000 on the {10-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{6-Clubs} flop, which was check-called by Willse. The action was checked again to Buchman after the {3-Diamonds} turn, and he slid out 100,000 chips. Willse responded by moving all in, which was quickly called by Buchman who was at risk again.

Parkin Scoops the Biggest Razz Pot of "All Time"

Razz

Meikle Partin: {x-}{x-}/{5-}{7-}{6-}{q-}/{x-}
Jeremy Ausmus: {x-}{x-}/{4-}{q-}{3-}{4-}/{x-}
Dustin Dirksen: {x-}{x-}/{5-}{j-}{4-}{8-}/{x-}
Robert Wells: {x-}{x-}/{4-}{8-}{10-}{a-}/{x-}

Dustin Dirksen opened the pot by completing before Robert Wells raised. Meikie Partin and Jeremy Ausmus called, as did Dirksen.

Partin led out on fourth, Wells raised, and all three opponents called.

"This is a tough table for Razz," William O'Neil, who had just arrived at the table, said.

On fifth, Partin went all in for his last 28,000, Ausmus raised all in, and both Dirksen and Wells called. Dirksen called another bet on sixth to create a second side pot.

"This might be the biggest Razz pot of the whole tournament," Allen Kessler observed.

"Of all time," another tablemate added.

Dirksen bet on seventh and Wells raised again. Dirksen called.

Wells ended up with {5-}{6-}{3-} for 6-5-4-3-A while Dirksen had {7-}{a-}{2-} for 7-5-4-2-A.

"I need an ace," Partin said before turning over the {a-Spades} to go with {2-}{3-} and make a 6-5-3-2-A.

Partin quadrupled up, Wells took the side pot, while Ausmus was eliminated.

"That was the most insane hand I've seen in my life," Kessler added.
