Waxman Can't Beat the Champ

Nível 20
Matt Waxman
Matt Waxman

Limit 2-7 Triple Draw

On the first draw, Jaswinder Lally took one and Matt Waxman two, then called when Lally bet.

Waxman again took two on the second draw and called a bet, leaving himself just 5,000 behind. Lally stood pat and Waxman paused for a moment before also patting and getting his last chips in the middle.

Lally showed {8-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{4-Spades}{2-Clubs} for an eight-six low and Waxman briefly flashed his cards before collecting his payout slip. "Brutal," he said as he made his way to the exit.

Pot Limit Omaha

Action picked up on the flop in a large pot of over 100,000. The flop showed {k-Diamonds}{6-}{9-Diamonds}. Both Chip Jett and David Prociak ended up with all their chips in the middle and Jett at risk.

Prociak flipped up {a-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{x-}{x-} for a pair and the nut flush draw. Prociak showed {a-}{k-Spades}{k-Clubs}{8-} for top set.

The board ran out {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts} for no help to Jett who headed for the cashier. Prociak scooped the massive pot that catapulted him into one of the chip leaders with less than 50 players left.

Lahti Doubles Through with the Big River Call

Nível 19
WILLIAM LAHTI
WILLIAM LAHTI

Pot Limit Omaha
'
Action picked up with a flop showing {a-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{7-Spades}. John Monnette and William Lahti were battling over a pot of about 38,000.

Lahti checked from the blinds and Monnette bet about 18,000 in position. Lahti called and took the hand to the turn.

The turn brought the {6-Diamonds} and action checked through. Action wouldn't be checking through on the final street, though.

The river landed the {3-Diamonds} and Lahti now led into Monnette for 20,000. Monnette thought for about 30 seconds and announced, "pot." The bet was for 89,500 effective, all that Lahti had left.

Lahti sat up, knowing his next decision would decide his tournament. "Did you hit it?" he asked. He only thought for about 20 seconds before announcing, "I call."

Monnette shook his head and showed {k-}{q-}{6-}{7-} showing he bluffed with full house blockers. Lahti table {a-Spades}{10-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{4-Clubs} for two pair and the big double.

"That's the first time I've been all in and at risk all tournament," said Lahti.

"You weren't at risk," joked Monnette.

"Yeah, but I didn't know that," laughed Lahti as he took down the vital pot.

"Jesus," Cantu couldn't help but be shocked.

"That's how you play this game I guess," said another tablemate.

Action picked up on after the single draw and Joseph Couden bet 13,500 from the button after being checked to by Matt Waxman.

Waxman thought for a couple minutes before reluctantly making the call.

"Ten-eight," said Couden as he showed {10-}{8-}{7-}{6-}{5-}. It was good enough to make Waxman muck and Couden took the pot down.

Cantu "Willing to Gamble"

Nível 17
Brandon Cantu
Brandon Cantu

Big O

Action resumed on the flop heads up between Andrew Yeh and Brandon Cantu. The board showed {k-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}.

Yeh had led out from the big blind for 17,500. Cantu ramped up the aggression and slid out a stack of chips worth enough to put Yeh's remaining 68,000 at risk. Yeh went into the tank for a couple of minutes.

"I'll show it either way," said Cantu as his opponent thought about calling it off.

Eventually, Yeh folded. Cantu honored his comment and showed he had {a-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{2-Clubs}.

"I didn't want to gamble, but I'm willing to gamble," said Cantu.

"That wasn't a gamble," remarked a tablemate as Cantu scooped the nice-sized pot.
