Dowdy Continues to Steamroll

Nível 30 : 50,000/100,000, 100,000 ante
David Dowdy
David Dowdy

David Dowdy opened to 225,000 from late position. Austin Peck called from the button and Roongsak Griffeth called from the big blind.

The flop showed {4-Clubs}{2-Spades}{6-Diamonds}. Dowdy continued for 300,000, Peck made the call, and Griffeth let it go.

The turn was the {6-Clubs}. Dowdy checked the card and Peck took the opportunity to bet 460,000. Dowdy assembled the 460,000, but announced "all in," as he slid in the calling chips.

Peck immediately folded.

"Strange," Peck thought out loud.

However it happened, Dowdy won another pot and added to his overwhelming lead.

Roongsak Griffeth opened to 250,000 from early position and Michael Simhai made the call on his immediate left.

The flop showed up {j-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{4-Clubs}. Griffeth continued for 350,000 and Simhai made the call in position.

On the {9-Spades} turn, Girffeth bet 600,000. After some thought, Simhai laid it down.

"You fold a jack?" asked Griffeth as he showed {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}.

"What do you think, I called you with nothing"? replied Simhai, implying that he did have a jack.

David Yonnotti Eliminated in 8th Place ($30,277)

Nível 29 : 40,000/80,000, 80,000 ante
David Yonnotti
David Yonnotti

Roongsak Griffeth opened to 225,000 from the button as the short stack. David Yonnotti moved all in from the small blind for about 1,700,000. The big blind folded and Griffeth made the call for 1,170,000 effective.

Roongsak Griffeth: {10-Hearts}{10-Spades}
David Yonnotti: {6-}{6-}

The board ran out {q-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} and Griffeth secured the full double that left Yonnottie with about three big blinds.

*****

On the next hand, David Dowdy opened to 180,000 from middle position. Over to Yonnotti on the button, he said, "Alright Georgia, let's do it." He moved all in for slightly more, 205,000. Dowdy called.

David Dowdy: {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}
David Yonnotti: {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}

The board showed {6-Hearts}{k-Spades}{5-Spades}{3-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} and gave Dowdy the win.

Three big hands in a row didn't go Yonnotti's way and he was eliminated in eighth place.

Simhai Makes Moves

Nível 29 : 40,000/80,000, 80,000 ante
Michael Simhai
Michael Simhai

David Yonnotti opened to 160,000 from the cutoff and found calls from Michael Simhai on the button and Timothy McDermott in the big blind.

The flop came {9-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{a-Spades}. Action checked to Yonnotti who continued for 105,000. Simhai quickly raised to 400,000. McDermott folded, and after some thought, Yonnotti made the call.

The turn was the {4-Spades} and Yonnotti checked. Simhai immediately moved all in for about 2,200,000. Yonnotti thought for about 20 seconds before making the fold.

Kevin Song Eliminated in 9th Place ($24,001)

Nível 28 : 30,000/60,000, 60,000 ante
Kevin Song
Kevin Song

David Yonnotti opened from late position for 125,000. Kevin Song put in a raise to 375,000 before Yonnotti moved all in. Song thought for a few moments before making the call as the player at risk.

Kevin Song: {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}
David Yonnotti: {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}

"Best hand I've had," Song remarked, clearly frustrated at how far behind he was. The {j-Spades}{k-Hearts}{9-Spades} flop saw Song pick up more outs with a gutshot straight draw, but the {a-Spades} turn and {j-Diamonds} river provided no help to Song, instead giving Yonnotti a full house.

Song was sent to the rail in 9th place, for a cash of $24,001. As Song was the only player at the final table to have a previous WSOP bracelet, his elimination guarantees that a first-time bracelet winner will be crowned at the end of the day.

Derek Sudell Eliminated in 10th Place ($19,253)

Nível 28 : 30,000/60,000, 60,000 ante
Derek Sudell
Derek Sudell

Kevin Song opened from under the gun to 80,000. From middle position, David Dowdy three-bet to 275,000. Over to Derek Sudell, who began to think as he counted his chips. After about a minute, he moved all in for about 1,700,000. Song folded and Dowdy called immediately.

David Dowdy: {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}
Derek Sudell: {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}

The flop increased Sudell's chances greatly when the {9-Spades}{6-Spades}{4-Spades} came out, giving him a spade flush draw. The turn was the {8-Clubs} and the river was the {j-Clubs}, both black, but neither was the fourth spade Sudell was looking for.

Sudell was eliminated and Dowdy took a commanding chip lead.

"Did you like that runout, black-black?" asked a tablemate.

"I think we all liked that runout," said another. Each elimination comes with a pay jump at this point in the tournament.

"It took me a minute to process that it didn't hit," said Dowdy.

*****

A couple of hands later, Anant Patel raised to 80,000 from late position and was immediately three-bet by Kevin Song on his left to 250,000.

This hand it was Patel's turn to go all in, and he did so for about 1,600,000. Song stared at Patel for a moment before releasing his cards.
