Chad Eveslage Bags Chip Lead Heading Into Final Table of Event #26: $10,000 Limit Hold'em Championship

Day 2 of Event #26: $10,000 Limit Hold'em Championship at the World Series of Poker at Bally's and Paris Las Vegas has drawn to a close with just nine players remaining. The day ended slightly early with all of the players agreeing to bag up their chips and return tomorrow where they will play to a winner.

After another 12 hours of play today, Chad Eveslage has emerged as the chip leader and will be the favorite when the cards get in the air tomorrow. Eveslage is coming off his first WSOP bracelet win earlier this summer in the $25,000 High Roller. It was also the poker pro's largest career score of $1.4 million, and he will be looking to ride that momentum into the final day. Eveslage broke through at the end of the day to bag up 1,080,000 chips, the only player in seven figures.

Breathing down his neck, also in search of their second bracelets, will be Matthew Schreiber with 970,000 chips and Joey Couden with 830,000 chips. The rest of the field will all be looking to capture their first piece of WSOP jewelry along with the first-place prize of over $245,000.

Day 2 Action

Late registration was open until the start of the day, which attracted 18 new entries, joining the 29 players that bagged chips on Day 1. Some of those notables included Phil Ivey, Josh Arieh, Julien Martini, and Joao Vieira. Unfortunately for them, they didn't last long with a starting stack of 60,000 chips, bowing out well before the money.

With a total of 92 entries, equalling that of the previous year, only 14 places got paid. It was Brian Rast, also a late entry, who was eliminated on the money bubble. Despite flopping a pair and the best hand, Rast succumbed to a king on the river, meaning the final 14 players locked up at least $16,920 for a min-cash.

First to hit the rail in the money was former chip leader Jesse Lonis. He was on the wrong side of multiple coolers over a short period of time and was unable to spin it back up. Matthew Rightnour and Marco Johnson followed Lonis out the door as other min-cash winners.

Yi Klassen was down to just two big blinds at one point near the money but out-lasted some others for a pay jump. Klassen was also the victim of a cooler where her nut straight ran into the nut flush of Eveslage. Only 10 players made it to the last break of the night and it didn't take long for play to halt for the evening. Nick Pupillo soon found himself on the short stack and eventually hit the rail in 10th place.

The final nine players will return tomorrow at 2 p.m. local time inside the Bally's Ballroom on the secondary feature table. The blinds will resume with around 70 minutes remaining in Level 17 with blinds at 10,000/15,000. The levels will continue at 90 minutes in length until a winner is crowned.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be back on the tournament floor to bring you all of the live updates so keep it locked here.

Nick Pupillo Eliminated in 10th Place ($18,506)

Nick Pupillo
Nick Pupillo

Matthew Schreiber raised it up from the cutoff and Nick Pupillo three-bet from the small blind. Schreiber stuck in a four-bet and Pupillo called off his stack of 50,000.

Nick Pupillo: {7-Spades}{6-Spades}
Matthew Schreiber: {j-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}

The flop came {k-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} to give Pupillo a pair of sixes but Schreiber was still out front with a pair of jacks. The {4-Spades} on the turn limited Pupillo's outs, and it was the {7-Clubs} on the river that was not quite enough for him. Pupillo was eliminated in 10th place which brought a close to the end of Day 2.

Chad Eveslage flat-called a raise on the button. Yi Klassen then three-bet from the small blind and only Eveslage called.

Klassen bet on the flop of {j-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{2-Clubs} and Eveslage called. Klassen bet again on the {10-Hearts} turn and Eveslage again called.

Klassen bet on the {7-Diamonds} river and Eveslage took a moment before announcing a raise. Klassen tanked with about 45,000 behind and eventually re-raised. Eveslage re-raised to ensure his opponent was all-in and tabled {a-Hearts}{5-Hearts} for the nut flush.

It was a heartbreaking end for Klassen as she also had a big hand with {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs} for a Broadway straight.

Marco Johnson: {8-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}

The action folded to Matt Woodward in the small blind who raised it up. Matthew Rightnour called from the big blind and the flop came {6-Spades}{5-Hearts}{4-Spades}. Woodward checked to Rightnour who made a bet, only to have Woodward check-raise. Rightnour called and the {10-Spades} landed on the turn.

Woodward led out with a bet and Rightnour still called as the {5-Spades} peeled off on the river. Woodward bet again and Rightnour put the last of his chips in the middle. Woodward tabled {a-Spades}{5-Diamonds} while Rightnour held {k-Spades}{6-}, sending him home in 13th place.

The action folded to Marco Johnson in the small blind who raised it up. Jesse Lonis re-raised from the big blind and Johnson countered with a four-bet. Lonis got the last of his chips in for around 40,000 and the cards were face up.

Jesse Lonis: {k-Diamonds}{4-Spades}
Marco Johnson: {q-Hearts}{7-Hearts}

The flop came {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} and Johnson took the lead with a pair of queens. The {8-Hearts} on the turn and the {7-Diamonds} on the river provided no help for Lonis who exited with a min-cash.

Rast Eliminated on the Money Bubble

Nível 15 : 5,000/10,000, 0 ante
Brian Rast
Brian Rast

Jonathan Cohen raised it up from the hijack and Matthew Schreiber three-bet in the cutoff. Brian Rast stuck in the last of his 28,000 chips in from the small blind and Cohen called.

The flop came {6-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} and Cohen checked to Schreiber who made a bet. Cohen folded and the remaining two hands were tabled once the action at the other table was completed.

Brian Rast: {9-Diamonds}{5-Spades}
Matthew Schreiber: {k-Clubs}{q-Clubs}

Rast flopped a pair of fives to take the lead and just needed to hold for a triple-up. The {8-Spades} on the turn was safe but the {k-Hearts} on the river gave Schreiber a pair of kings, eliminating Rast on the money bubble.

Dirksen Eliminated by Lieberman in Boat-Over-Boat Cooler

Nível 14 : 4,000/8,000, 0 ante
Dustin Dirksen
Dustin Dirksen

Dustin Dirksen opened on the button and David Lieberman, the other short stack at the table, called from the big blind.

Lieberman checked on the {q-Spades}{10-Clubs}{k-Hearts} flop and called a bet from Dirksen. Lieberman again check-called on the {10-Spades} turn.

Lieberman checked again on the {q-Diamonds} river and Dirksen bet to leave himself with just 1,000. Lieberman raised to put Dirksen all-in and he quickly called.

"Ah, you hit that queen on me?" Dirksen asked.

"I did. I did," responded Lieberman, showing {q-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} to win the pot with queens full of tens.

It was a bad beat for Dirksen, who held {10-Hearts}{6-Hearts} for tens full of queens to be eliminated ahead of the two-table redraw.

Eric Wasserson
Eric Wasserson

Eric Wasserson was the shortest stack in the room and had just recently doubled up. However, just moments later he got the last of his chips in the middle again. This time proved to be not as fortunate as he was unable to stay alive.

"Payout!" the dealer at the table announced as the rest of the players erupted in laughter.

"How much does 18th pay?" Jason Mercier asked as he was looking on. "At least you were close."

With Wasserson's elimination, the field is now just three players off the money.

Campbell Runs Out of Chips

Nível 14 : 4,000/8,000, 0 ante
Robert Campbell
Robert Campbell

A completed board of {k-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{2-Hearts} was spread across the felt with Robert Campbell and Matthew Gonzales heads-up in what was already a large pot. Campbell led out with a bet from the big blind and Gonzales raised him. Campbell gave it some thought before making the call. Gonzales showed {a-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} and Campbell mucked, leaving himself with just 8,000 chips.

On the next hand, Chad Eveslage raised from under the gun and Campbell put the last of his 8,000 chips in the middle. David Litt also called from the big blind to see a flop of {6-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{3-Spades}.

Litt checked to Eveslage who continued with a bet. Litt check-raised and Eveslage stuck around for the {5-Clubs} on the turn. Litt bet again and Eveslage let his hand go. Litt tabled {10-Spades}{10-Clubs} which was ahead of Campbell's {2-Spades}{2-Diamonds}.

The river was the {10-Diamonds} to improve Litt to a full house, sending Campbell home short of the money.
