Event #16: $3,000 No-Limit Hold'em, New Event - New Venue

This year's WSOP has been a magical experience for most, filled with many firsts for all levels of players. Event #16: $3,000 NLH is another new aspect of the series, and will be held today at 11 a.m. PDT in the Paris black section.

Exactly how many players will compete for the sixteenth bracelet of the summer is currently unknown, but anticipate many notable names in the field amongst those registered in this inaugural event.

Each player will start with 40,000 in chips and play 10 levels today, each an hour long, with 20 minute breaks every two levels. Blinds start at 100/200, and late registration will be open until tomorrow until Level 12 (approximately 2 p.m. PDT).

PokerNews will be there every step of the way at Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas for this event, every other event, and all things WSOP - all summer long.

Seif Doubles Early

Mark Seif was sharing a table with Lara Eisenberg and Kathy Liebert, when he got involved in a big hand in the opening hour of the tournament.

In middle position Self raised 3,600, after a player in the big blind bet 600. From the cutoff another player raised to 8,600, and after it folded around back to Seif, he called.

The flop came , and both players checked to see the turn , which Seif bet 7,700. The player to his left called and they went to the river heads up.

The river was the , and Seif went all in for 20,000. His opponent in the cutoff thought for a full minute before making the call, and Seif tabled for a flopped set.

The player in the cutoff turned over , and Seif scooped the pot for an early double up.

Farrell Grabs Cape On Break

Action was picked up on a flop of , with Niall Farrell heads-up from early position against a middle position player.

Farrell checked the flop, and his opponent bet out 2,700. Farrell smooth called.

The turn came and was checked through.

The river fell and Farrell lead for 1,700. His opponent took his time, before slowly reaching for raising chips. They made it 5,500. Farrell sighed and went into the tank.

"I don't know how to play this game anymore," he declared, looking at his cards again.

It took around a full minute, but eventually Farrell took his bet back and called.

"You're good if you have a pair", said his opponent.

Farrell tabled for third pair and a missed straight draw. His opponent showed Farrell his hand before quickly throwing them straight into the muck pile.

Farrell confirmed after the hand that the player had shown him .

Kade Calls King-High Bluff

There was 6,700 in the pot when was showing on the felt, and Vanessa Kade in the small blind checked it to the player to her left in the big blind. Her opponent took a free card, and they went heads up to the river.

On the river, Kade checked again, and the big blind bet 4,000.

Kade thought for a moment, and flicked in a chip to call.

Her opponent declared, "King-high".

Kade turned over for almost bottom pair, but it was good at showdown, and she raked the pot.

Berkey Calls Russler's All In

There was about 36,000 in the middle on a completed board of , and Matt Berkey checked from the small blind to Nathan Russler on the button.

On the double paired board with a possible flush, Russler bet 40,000, enough to put Matt Berkey all in.

Berkey thought about it for a few moments, clicking his chips together in both hands. When he threw one of them in for the call, Russler tabled for a full house.

Berkey mucked his hand, and wished the rest of the table good luck before exiting.

Farrell Is a Ladies Man

Action was picked up after the preflop betting had completed, but it was explained that Niall Farrell had three-bet an early position raise, been four bet from the small blind, and the button under-shoved for around 14,000. Farrell still had the option to raise himself, so he went all in from the hijack, and the small blind called.

Farrell had both players covered so wasn't at risk, however he was behind and needed help.

A runout of saw him hit though, and he declared, "I felt I was going to win that one." Farrell scored the double knockout and a meaty pot.

Another player at the table claimed to have folded the case queen.

Mizrachi Making Moves

There was around 30,000 in the middle, and Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi was in late position, heads up with a player under the gun.

Action was picked up on a board of , and Mizrachi over-bet the pot to 80,000 when his opponent checked the river.

After a few moments, the under-the-gun player reluctantly folded his hand. Mizrachi turned over just the . "This is the new Grinder", said Mizrachi, "See? I had the ace of hearts."

Mizrachi continued to smile as he stacked his chips.

Kornuth All In

The five cards on the felt were , and the big blind checked it to Chance Kornuth in the cutoff.

Kornuth pushed the remainder of his 19,000 stack in the middle, and his opponent took a few moments to consider.

With a pot of about 50,000, Kornuth showed nothing but a faint smile and that grin grew even bigger when the big blind finally called.

Kornuth casually turned over for the full house, and his opponent tapped the table before mucking and doubling up the two-time bracelet winner.

Fisher In Three Way All In

Paul Fisher was last to act on the button, facing two players all in from the big blind and middle position.

The player in middle position barely had everyone covered, and Fisher committed the rest of his stack to create a 82,000 pot.

Ho Holds With Aces

Action was picked up moments before the dealer cleared the board of when Maria Ho had most of her chips in the middle, heads up with a player in the small blind.

Ho turned over for two pair, and her opponent reluctantly dropped his cards face down in the muck.

"Ahhh... you got it," he said, tapping the table.

Ho smiled, and turned to her table mate Dietrich Fast to share one of the last conversations of Day 1. They both counted their chips before dealers began to exchange the smaller chips before bagging for the night.
