Xuan Liu
Xuan Liu

Welcome back to Day 2 of Event #59: $1,000 Tag Team No-Limit Hold’em which might be one of the few events which constantly has a huge rail on the sidelines. The tournament prompted 641 teams to sign up and play, 140 of them made it through the hurdles that Day 1 brought them.

Leading the relay is Team Ruter with Mike Ruter, and Samy Dighlawi coming in with a total of 338,000 chips. They are followed by Team Werner (Haven Werner and Thomas Taylor) who bagged a stack of 295,000.

Team Werner got a lot of their chips when they flopped a pair and a flush draw against their opponent's two pair. They made the flush to put them over the 200,000 chip mark.

Team Weisner (Melanie Weisner - Xuan Liu) also bagged a healthy stack of 159,000. Both Weisner and Liu have already cashed this series. Weisner has a few cashes including a 17th Place finish and a payout of $17,141 in Event #15: $1,500 6-Handed No-Limit Hold'em. Liu finished in 33rd place in Event #25: $5,000 6-Handed No-Limit Hold'em for $15,200.

Other teams to watch for include, Team Luther (Nikita Luther - Kunal Patni), Team Watson (Mike Watson - Sarah Goddard), Team Platt (Jeff Platt - Brent Hanks) and Team Park (Nellie Park - Joey Weissman).

When the players returning to the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, play will resume at 1 p.m. PT at Level 12 which features a small blind of 1,000, big blind of 2,500, and a big blind ante of 2,500.

Another 11 levels of 60 minutes are scheduled with no downtime scheduled except for color up breaks. The PokerNews live reporting team will be following along all day to bring you all the latest updates from the action on the floor.

Team Pazol Beats Cancer, Makes the Money, and Doubles

Nível 14 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Naomi Pazol
Naomi Pazol

Naomi Pazol and Sarah Howell of Team Pazol are both cancer survivors and told PokerNews they are ecstatic about making the money after riding a short stack.

A few minutes after getting in the money, Pazol open-shoved in early position and the next player to act re-shoved with a slightly bigger stack. Everyone else folded, including the big blind who folded {a-}{j-} face-up.

Naomi Pazol: {a-Hearts}{9-Hearts}
Opponent: {2-Spades}{2-Clubs}

Pazol paired her nine on the flop of {9-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}, and the {7-Hearts} on the turn gave her a flush draw. The river brought the {5-Hearts} to give the flush to Pazol, who shot out of her chair and high-fived her partner on the rail, who is sporting a shirt with the words "Courage is My Superpower" and a pink ribbon on it.

Nikita Luther
Nikita Luther

Nikita Luther of Team Luther raised the button to 10,000 and Hwany Lee of Team Lee jammed 150,000 chips in the middle. Luther called so fast she almost beat him in the pot and both hands were tabled.

Team Luther: {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}
Team Lee: {4-Clubs}{4-Hearts}

It was a race and the {j-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} flop was no help for Luther. The {q-Hearts} on the turn, however, gave her the lead with a pair of queens and the board completed with the {9-Clubs} on the river.

Nikita Luther - Kunal Patni

Michael Newman of Team Newman raised in early position and Nikita Luther of Team Luther defended the big blind.

On the {a-Spades}{q-Clubs}{5-Clubs} flop Luther checked to Newman who instantly jammed all-in for 165,000 and Luther wasted no time calling.

Team Newman: {a-Clubs}{q-Spades}
Team Luther: {k-Clubs}{10-Clubs}

Newman had flopped top two pair while Luther flopped a straight draw and a flush draw. The {q-Diamonds} on the turn made Newman a full house and the {2-Spades} on the river was just a formality. Luther was left with only 15,000 at the end of the hand.

After folding for a few hands, Luther had put her remaining chips in the middle. Holly Babbitt of Team Babbit called in the cutoff and the button called before Samy Dighlawi of Team Ruter raised to 82,000, forcing both players to fold.

Team Luther: {a-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}
Team Ruter: {8-Spades}{3-Spades}

The board ran out {a-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{4-Spades}{k-Spades}{q-Hearts}, giving Luther top pair to quadruple up.
