Day 2 of Event #33: $800 Eight-Handed NLHE Deepstack begins today with 159 players competing for the first-place prize of $269,478. WSOP bracelet winner Ryan Laplante (650,000) remains in contention. With more than two million in earnings, Laplante won his first bracelet at the 2016 WSOP $565 Pot-Limit Omaha (Event #12).

Todd Ivens finished the day among the leaders, bagging a whopping stack of 2,030,000 from a starting stack of just 40,000.

Ivens has multiple World Series of Poker cashes to his name, including two final tables back in 2018. The Illinois native is still looking for that elusive WSOP gold bracelet and he's hoping to do that in the coming days. Ivens finished third in chips, behind Alex Miles who bagged 2,700,000, and Tony Nguyen who will return with 2,185,000 chips.

Some other notables moving on to Day 2 include Mukul Pahuja (1,605,000), Ian Steinman (1,320,000), Haven Werner (955,000), and Matt Affleck (840,000).

A total of 2,778 entries were recorded, exceeding the numbers put up in this same event two years ago. Just 417 players made it to the money with a min-cash being worth $1,282. The bustouts were fast and furious once the bubble burst with players like Gal Yifrach, Jesse Sylvia, Joao Vieira, Koray Aldemir, and Joao Simao all hitting the payout desk on their way out.

Day 2 will get underway at 12 p.m. local time inside the Amazon Room where the remaining players will look to reach the final table. Play will continue until just five players remain, and a bracelet winner will be decided on Day 3 of the tournament.

The PokerNews live reporting team will have all of the updates throughout the tournament so keep it locked here to see who will become a WSOP champion.

Heinzl Survives his All-in

Nível 23 : 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante
Joshua Heinzl
Joshua Heinzl

Joshua Heinzl was all-in and at risk preflop for his last 670,000 chips holding {j-Spades}{j-Clubs} versus the {a-Spades}{a-Hearts} of Bradley Rhodes.

"It's okay, the Jacks are lucky....", insisted Heinzl.

The dealer spread out the flop of {4-Hearts}{4-Spades}{j-Hearts}, and indeed the jacks were lucky for Heinzl, who had flopped a full house.

The turn was the {8-Clubs} and changed nothing.

The river was the fourth {j-Diamonds}, which gave Heinzl quad jacks and secured his double up.

Werner Loses a Flip, Busts Next Hand

Nível 27 : 40,000/80,000, 80,000 ante
Haven Werner
Haven Werner

Haven Werner raised it up from under the gun and B.W. Garrett shipped all in for 865,000 in the big blind. Werner quickly called and the cards were tabled.

B.W. Garrett: {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}
Haven Werner: {a-Spades}{k-Spades}

The board ran out {9-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{2-Spades}{7-Spades}{4-Hearts} and Garrett held on to double through Werner.

On the next hand, Richard Mijares raised it up from under the gun and Werner stuck in the last of her 355,000 chips. Mijares called and showed {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds}. Werner had two overcards with {q-Hearts}{9-Clubs} but was unable to connect with the board.

Steinman Can't Survive

Nível 30 : 80,000/160,000, 160,000 ante
Ian steinman
Ian steinman

Ian Steinman had a little under 2,000,000 chips and shoved all in from under the gun. Jorge Hou called from the button and the blinds folded.

Ian Steinman: {a-Spades}{j-Spades}
Jorge Hou: {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}

The flop of {k-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{2-Spades} was of no help to Steinman. While the {q-Clubs} on the turn gave Hou a set of queens, Steinman's outs actually increased. Unfortunately for him, the {7-Clubs} on the river could not keep him alive as he exited in 33rd place.

Rene van Krevelen Eliminated in 22nd Place ($10,526)

Nível 32 : 120,000/240,000, 240,000 ante
Rene van Krevelen
Rene van Krevelen

The action folded to Rene van Krevelen in the cutoff who ripped all in for just over 3,000,000. Kris Steinbach woke up in the big blind with a premium holding and made the call to put van Krevelen at risk.

Rene van Krevelen: {a-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}
Kris Steinbach: {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}

The flop of {k-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{8-Hearts} left Steinbach in a commanding lead, looking to just dodge an ace. The {5-Spades} on the turn and the {7-Hearts} on the river held for Steinbach who eliminated van Krevelen.

Yulian Bogdanov Eliminated in 16th Place ($13,006)

Nível 33 : 150,000/300,000, 300,000 ante
Yulian Bogdanov
Yulian Bogdanov

Yulian Bogdanov raised with {q-Spades}{q-Clubs} and was all-in for his last 2,790,000 chips and Oleg Titov tank-called with {a-Spades}{10-Spades}. This meant Bogdanov was at-risk, but ahead.

That all changed when the dealer spread the flop of {j-}{k-}{q-} and Titov leap-frogged into the lead when he flopped broadway, but Bogdanov had outs as he flopped a set of queens.

The turn {9-} and river {6-} were blanks, and Titov was pushed the pot, which eliminated Bogdanov in 16th place.

Will Failla
Will Failla

Jorge Hou raised it up to 700,000 on the button and Will Failla three-bet shoved all in from the small blind. The big blind folded and Hou quickly called and the cards were tabled.

Will Failla: {j-Spades}{j-Hearts}
Jorge Hou: {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}

It was a coin flip for a massive pot and the board ran out {9-Hearts}{5-Spades}{4-Spades}{a-Hearts}{3-Spades}. Hou found a pair of aces on the turn and was awarded the pot. After counting the chips, it was Failla who was at risk for 6,125,000 as Hou had him covered by just 10,000.

Jonathan Kramer Eliminated in 14th Place ($13,006)

Jonathan Kramer
Jonathan Kramer

Jonathan Kramer shoved all-in from under the gun holding {k-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} and was called from the small blind by Florian Guimond who held {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs} and the lead.

The flop of {6-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{q-Hearts} changed nothing.

The meaningless turn {2-Spades} and river {4-Hearts} did the same, and Kramer was eliminated from the tournament in 14th place.
