Who'll find the cards to match their skills on Day 1?

Welcome to Day 1 of Event #83: $100,000 No-Limit Hold'em High Roller.

Last year, Nick Petrangelo won the corresponding event, which took place fifth on the schedule. In doing so, Petrangelo outlasted 105 competitors to take home the first-place prize of $2,910,227, defeating Elio Fox heads-up to claim the title while Fox took home $1,798,658 for his second-place finish.

Aymon Hata (3rd place - $1,247,230), Andreas Eiler (4th place - $886,793), Bryn Kenney ($646,927), Stephen Chidwick ($484,551), Jason Koon ($372,894), and Adrian Mateos ($295,066) were the other big names that made the final table.

Some other champions who took a shot at this event included Phil Ivey, Fedor Holz, Jason Mercier, and Ryan Riess, so we can expect to see some stellar names in this year's line-up, with an attractive prize-pool to go with the obvious bragging rights of winning an event of such magnitude.

This is a three-day event and cards will be in the air at 3 p.m. local time with blinds of 1,000/1,000 and a 1,000 ante. Players will start with 600,000 in chips and levels will be of 40 minutes each. There will be a 15-minute break every three levels and a 60-minute dinner break at the completion of Level 6, at approximately 7:15 p.m. Late registration will be available till the start of Day 2.

Day 1 will play twelve levels, while on Day 2 play will resume at 1 p.m. and will conclude once six players remain, with the final table returning on Saturday, July 13, at noon PDT, with the final denouement being live-streamed on a one-hour delay.

Stay tuned to PokerNews as the Live Reporting Team provide you with all the updates from this truly special event.

"It's my new poker face," Sam Grafton said to his table. "It's to look side like you."

Grafton gestured to fellow Brit Ben Heath.

"Look like I'm close to tears."

"But some players look angry," contributed Orpen Kisacikoglu.

"Yeah," said Grafton. "Like [2019 bracelet winner] Joao Vieira. I'm like, are we going to get in a fight?"

Whatever poker face Grafton has been pulling so far in the $100,000 High Roller, it's been working after he chipped up in an earlier pot against Yusuke Takahashi.

Takagi Eliminates Stamm

Nível 2 : 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Kensaku Takagi
Kensaku Takagi

Kensaku Takagi raised to 4,500 under the gun and David Stamm three-bet to 20,000 from the small blind. Takagi four-bet to 60,000 and Stamm five-bet for 200,000. Takagi took a minute of reflection then responded by moving all in for 609,500 and Stamm called putting at risk about 555,000.

David Stamm: {a-Hearts}{a-Spades}
Kensaku Takagi: {k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}

"Just gotta fade," muttered Stam.

The dealer spread a flop of {5-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}. "No diamonds!" said Stam. But the turn brought the {3-Diamonds}. "I said no diamonds," continued Stamm, and the {q-Diamonds} river filled up the board for Takagi to win the pot with his flush, sending Stamm to the rail.

"This is a cruel game you guys, a very cruel game," commented Stamm while getting ready to leave.

"I worked so hard to be able to play this well and then this happens," he added, before heading to the exit.

Chidwick Eliminated

Nível 8 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Stephen Chidwick
Stephen Chidwick

Sergi Reixach opened to 17,000 and Kanialu McCue-Unciano called. Stephen Chidwick had clearly lost a major pot and was down to just 144,000. He three-bet all in and Reixach quickly folded.

McCue-Unciano tanked and eventually called, flipping over {a-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}.

He was behind the {q-Spades}{q-Hearts} of Chidwick but an ace on a {3-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{10-Spades}{a-Hearts}{k-Hearts} run out gave him the pot and sent Chidwick to the rail.

Ali Imsirovic

On a {8-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{7-Spades} turn Justin Bonomo bet 40,000 out of the big blind and opponent Ali Imsirovic raised to 160,000 from the button.

Bonomo called and the river was the {10-Diamonds}. Bonomo checked and Imsirovic snap-checked behind.

Bonomo tabled {k-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} for a pair of eights and Imsirovic showed {q-Spades}{10-Spades}.

"I agree Sean," said Bonomo in the direction of tablemate Sean Winter who had obviously pulled a face.

"I thought you had a straight," said Winter. "I was more confused about your hand. I misread the board."

"So did Ali," joked Bonomo.
