Day 1 of Event #62: $10,000 Razz Championship is in the books with 42 players of the 96 Day 1 entries advancing to Day 2. Top of the chip counts by a significant margin is Brazilian professional player Andre Akkari, who bagged nearly four times the average stack with 506,000, nearly 200,000 more than his nearest competitor.

Akkari solidly built up his stack after he joined the field in Level 2, but it was in the last two levels of the night where Akkari surged from having around 200,000's to more than half a million. In that heater, he eliminated Jason Mercier and never looked back.

David Bach is second in chips with 308,500, and a plethora of big names bagged solid stacks as well. Marco Johnson (254,000), defending champion Calvin Anderson (248,500), Max Pescatori (241,000), current WSOP Player of the Year points leader Dan Zack (240,500), Julien Martini (217,000), and Daniel Negreanu (208,000) all had very solid days and will be back on Day 2.

Among those who came up short today include the aforementioned Mercier, John Racener, Frank Kassela, Eric Wasserson, Jen Harman, Eli Elezra, Jennifer Tilly, Ryan Riess and Ray Dehkharghani.

Registration remains open until the start of Day 2, which takes place on Thursday July 27th at 2 p.m. PokerNews will be back to provide live updates on all of the action at that time.
