Heath Leads the Final Six in Event #5: 50th Annual High Roller - $50,000 No-Limit Hold'em

It was a short Day 3 for the players in Event #5: 50th Annual High Roller - $50,000 No-Limit Hold'em as the field of 12 was quickly whittled down to just six. Once again, Ben Heath will be leading the field when the players return to their seats with a stack of 7,630,000.

It's the second day in a row that Heath bagged the largest stack in the tournament and it didn't require much work for him to do so. The British poker pro stayed fairly quiet for much of the four hours of poker other than the first and last hand of the day. Heath is the only player among the final six that is without a WSOP gold bracelet but he has the opportunity to change that on the final day tomorrow.

He will be joined by Sam Soverel who made a late push by doubling through Elio Fox in one of the largest pots of the tournament thus far. Soverel isn't far behind the chipleader with 7,540,000 chips entering the final day. Andrew Lichtenberger also ran up a healthy stack to sit in third place with 5,615,000. Chance Kornuth (5,000,000), Nick Petrangelo (4,100,000), and Dmitry Yurasov (3,660,000) round out the remaining players.

The day got started shortly after 2 p.m. with 12 players returning to the felt. Matthew Gonzales was short-lived as he entered the day with just three big blinds. He found a suited hand to go with in the early going but was dominated when Heath called him. Despite flopping a pair on the flop, Heath turned a pair and Gonzales was turned to the rail.

Sam Grafton didn't last much longer as he ripped his 24 big blind stack into the middle from the small blind but ran into the pocket aces of Petrangelo in the big blind. Grafton made a pair of queens on the turn but that wasn't enough to keep him alive as he bowed out in 11th place. The German high roller, Manig Loeser also came into the day as a short stack and after he lost a flip to Kornuth, the final table of nine players was set.

The final nine lasted for over an hour but it seemed as though everyone was waiting on one person, David Einhorn. He was the only player with under 20 big blinds and was waiting patiently to pick up a hand. He eventually moved all in for 12 big blinds on the button and was called by Heath called from the big blind. The two players were flipping with Einhorn needing to connect with his jack-ten. The board ran out six-high and Einhorn was forced to settle for ninth place.

Cary Katz entered the day in the middle of the pack but was unable to get anything going his way. The PokerGO owner finally got his chips in the middle with the best hand, holding pocket tens against the pocket sevens of Yurasov. Unfortunately, a seven on the turn would spell the end to Katz's run in eighth place.

Fox appeared to be in cruise control for the better part of the day but was on the wrong side of a cooler in the largest pot of the tournament. Fox flopped a set of fives but Soverel flopped a straight and all of the chips got in the middle on the turn. The river didn't pair the board and Fox became the new short stack. Just moments later, Fox three-bet shoved with pocket eights but Heath looked down at pocket kings in the big blind. There was no eight on the board for Fox to improve and that brought an end to Day 3.

Hand #78: Sam Soverel opened for 240,000 under the gun plus one before Elio Fox shoved for 2,345,000 from the hijack. The action folded to Ben Heath in the big blind who asked for a count. He eventually shoved all in and Soverel quickly folded.

Elio Fox: {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}
Ben Heath: {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

Fox, at one point chipleader at this final table, was at risk of busting out as Day 3's bubble.

The board ran out {5-Hearts}{5-Spades}{q-Spades} {j-Clubs} {a-Spades} and Fox was eliminated in seventh place for $192,794.

The remaining players return to the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino at noon tomorrow. They are guaranteed $251,128 and will battle it out for the first-place prize of $1,484,085 under the PokerGO cameras.

Play has wrapped up. We'll be back shortly with end-of-day chip counts and an extensive recap of today's action.

Hands #70: Soverel Doubles Into the Lead in Massive Hand

Sam Soverel
Sam Soverel

Hand #70: Sam Soverel opened the hijack for 260,000 and received calls from Elio Fox (cutoff) and Andrew Lichtenberger (small blind.)

Everything was relatively quiet on the flop of {3-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} as it was checked through.

The {8-Diamonds} on the turn, though, not so much. Lichtenberger lead out for 350,000 and Soverel raised to 1,400,000 with 1,925,000 behind. Fox went into the tank and used some time bank cards before shoving all in. Lichtenberger needed his full 30 seconds before he released his cards into the muck. Soverel thought about it for just as long but eventually called.

Sam Soverel: {a-Spades}{2-Spades}
Elio Fox: {5-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}

Fox needed the board to pair but it failed to do so with the {j-Spades} on the river. Fox parted ways with 3,325,000 in chips, making Soverel the new chipleader.

Hand #66: Dmitry Yurasov opened for 225,000 under the gun plus one and his neighbor Cary Katz shoved for 1,130,000. The action folded back around quickly to Yurasov who called.

Dmitry Yurasov: {7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}
Cary Katz: {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}

Katz was the clear favorite and the {8-Spades}{2-Spades}{5-Clubs} flop was good for him, but the {7-Spades} on the turn spelled doom. Katz got up from the table, grabbed his bag, and was already on his way by the time the {4-Clubs} landed on the river.

From a field of 110 entries, Cary Katz finished in eighth place, good for a score of $151,755. The remaining seven players are now guaranteed $192,794. One more player is to go before play wraps up for the day.

Hands #29-32: "Lucky Chewy" Doubles Through Petrangelo

Nível 18 : 40,000/80,000, 80,000 ante
Andrew Lichtenberger
Andrew Lichtenberger

Hand #29: Andrew Lichtenberger opened to 160,000 from under the gun and Elio Fox flat-called on the button. The blinds folded and the dealer spread the flop of {k-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}. Both players checked and the {2-Hearts} landed on the turn. Lichtenberger led out for 180,000 and Fox called to see the {10-Diamonds} on the turn. Lichtenberger checked this and Fox bet 450,000 which got a snap-fold from Lichtenberger.

Hand #30: Cary Katz just called from the small blind and Lichtenberger raised it up to 230,000 from the big blind. Katz instantly folded and Lichtenberger collected the pot.

Hand #31: Sam Soverel raised to 190,000 in middle position and picked up the blinds and ante.

Hand #32: The action folded around to Lichtenberger on the button who shoved all in for 1,545,000. Nick Petrangelo asked for a count from the small blind and then made the call.

Andrew Lichtenberger: {a-Spades}{2-Spades}
Nick Petrangelo: {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs}

Lichtenberger was in rough shape but the flop of {a-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{7-Hearts} sprung him into the lead. The {j-Clubs} on the turn and the {q-Hearts} on the river were no help to Petrangelo who sent over a double up.

David Einhorn Eliminated in 9th Place ($122,551)

Nível 18 : 40,000/80,000, 80,000 ante
David Einhorn
David Einhorn

Hand #24:The action folded around to David Einhorn on the button who was currently sitting on the shortest stack at the table. Einhorn ripped all in for 950,000 and Ben Heath asked for a count from the big blind. Heath made the call and Einhorn was at risk.

Ben Heath: {3-Spades}{3-Clubs}
David Einhorn: {j-Hearts}{10-Spades}

It was a small pair for Heath which meant Einhorn held two overcards. The flop of {7-Clubs}{5-Spades}{5-Diamonds} left Heath in the lead despite the possibility of counterfeit outs. The turn was the {4-Spades} and the river brought the {2-Diamonds} providing no help to Einhorn and sending him home in ninth place.

Manig Loeser
Manig Loeser

Chance Kornuth was first to act and raised to 130,000 in the new level of 30,000/60,000.

The action folded to small blind Manig Loeser who had just joined his new table. He thought about it for a bit and right before he was out of time, he shoved for 455,000 total. Big blind Yurasov folded, Kornuth called right away.

Chance Kornuth: {5-Diamonds}{5-Spades}
Manig Loeser: {a-Hearts}{9-Hearts}

It was a fair situation to start, this time decided in Kornuth's favor as the board ran out {6-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{3-Hearts} {7-Spades} {k-Diamonds}. While Loeser picked up some counterfeit outs on the turn, the river brought no solace and Loeser was left nothing more to do than get up and head to the payout.

"Good game man," said one fan on the rail.

"Thanks man," Loeser responded while calmly getting up.

Down to nine players now, merged to a single table. All players are still guaranteed $122,551.

Sam Grafton Eliminated in 11th Place ($101,604)

Nível 16 : 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante
Sam Grafton
Sam Grafton

Dmitry Yurasov opened the cutoff for 125,000 before Chance Kornuth folded his button. Small blind Sam Grafton announced all-in and big blind Nick Petrangelo asked for a count. Once it was clear it was 1,215,000 total, he called. Yurasov folded right away.

Sam Grafton: {q-Clubs}{k-Hearts}
Nick Petrangelo: {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}

It was an uphill battle for Grafton and he wouldn't be able to come from behind. After a flop of {4-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}, the {q-Spades} on the turn gave him a glimmer of hope. The {2-Spades} on the river, though, brought nothing of value to the talkative Brit and he exited in 11th place for $101,604.

Down to ten players now, all guaranteed $122,551 from here on out.

Matthew Gonzales

In the fourth hand of the day, Matthew Gonzales raised to 150,000 under the gun, leaving himself with just 5,000 behind. The action folded to Nick Petrangelo in the small blind who contemplated his action for a bit before eventually folding.

Big blind Ben Heath put in a bunch of chips to get Gonzales to commit his last 5,000-chip as well. Gonzales joked by tossing in a time bank card first but grabbed it back and quickly called right after.

Matthew Gonzales: {j-Spades}{4-Spades}
Ben Heath: {j-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}

The flop came {q-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{3-Clubs}, pairing up Gonzales.

"Oh baby doll!" Gonzales said to the dealer.

While the flop was good for him, the {9-Hearts} on the turn left him drawing to just a few outs. The {2-Diamonds} completed the board and Gonzales said his goodbyes.

Gonzales out in twelfth place, good for $101,604. The next to go out gets that very same amount.

Despite winning the hand, Heath is still slightly down for the day after losing a small pot to Nick Petrangelo in the third hand of play.

Heath Leads Twelve Players in Search of Final Table of Six

Ben Heath
Ben Heath

Just twelve players remain in Event #5: 50th Annual High Roller - $50,000 No-Limit Hold'em with two more days to play. The plan for today is to play down from twelve to six, which leaves a 6-handed final table for tomorrow's PokerGO live stream.

Leading the charge is British professional player Ben Heath. With over $3 million in live tournament earnings, Heath is anything but a newcomer to the world of high stakes poker. But that coveted gold bracelet is still missing from his poker resume, so it's not just the $1,484,085 for first place that he's eyeing.

Eleven players stand in his way, all just as eager for the trophy. PokerGO owner Cary Katz, talkative Brit Sam Grafton, philanthropist David Einhorn, German high roller Manig Loeser, and short stack Matthew Gonzales are all looking for their first bracelet as well. The rest of the pack, Sam Soverel, Andrew Lichtenberger, Elio Fox, Dmitry Yurasov, Chance Kornuth, and Nick Petrangelo all have WSOP jewelry already, but probably wouldn't mind one extra.

Here's the line-up when play gets back underway at 2 p.m.:
