Event #47: $10,000 Ladies No-Limit Hold’em Championship (with a $9,000 discount for women), drew a total of 968 entries, overpassing the 696 entries of last year. Only 261 ladies are still in the running for the top prize of $167,308 and the WSOP gold after 10 levels of play.

Several players were vying for the chip lead in the last couple levels of the night, and Katie Lindsay finished the day among the biggest stacks with 245,600. Lindsay, who already counts 18 WSOP cashes in her career, stayed on an upward slope for most of the day and ended with 120,000 chips. Jill Pike, runner up of the event last year, found a bag at the end of the day for 74,100 as well as Mikiyo Aoki with 97,400 who also finished second of that event in 2014.

For the first time, no men registered the event and 146 ladies will make the money tomorrow, with a min-cash being worth $1,496. Last year's Ladies Event Champion, Jessica Dawley, had to rebuy in the tournament after her pocket kings ran into pocket aces. On her second bullet, Dawley ended up shoving her last seven big blinds in with pocket deuces and was called by Denaa David who held a pair of fours in the hole. She found no help on the board and was sent to the rail, unable to defend her title this year.

Bracelet winner Allyn Shulman stayed at the top of the counts for most of the day and bagged a comfortable stack of 128,400 and so did Kathy Liebert with 80,700. Some other notables to bag were last year's final tablist Molly Mossey (76,700), Maria Lampropulos (70,400), Kelly Minkin (56,400), Ana Marquez (146,000), Kristy Arnett (42,900), and Gaelle Baumann who was short all day and ended with 53,700.

END OF THE DAYS STORIES

Shirin Oskooi, the previous Survivor contestant and a new face in the poker world, seated next to Jill Pike for much of the evening, also manages to stay alive and confessed her and Pike bonded and had an amazing time together.

Megan Milburn, who finished fourth in the $1,000 Tag Team No-Limit Hold'em last year, had the surprise to be seated one seat away from her mother Joanne Milburn. Both played the whole day together and both found a bag at the end of the evening with 47,000 for the daughter and 124,300 for the mother.

Several familiar players who were spotted in the field did not survive to the money. Among them were the 2017 Ladies event winner Heidi May, Kitty Kuo, Jacqueline Burkhart, Arianna Son, who recently finished fifth in the $1,000 Double Stack No-Limit Hold'em, Pok Kim, Natalie Teh, Melanie Weisner, Natalie Hof and the two-time bracelet winner Kristen Bicknell.

Loni Harwood, the owner of two gold bracelets and five WSOP rings, took a seat right before the end of the late registration but busted after a few hands of play.

The 261 remaining players will restart Friday at noon local time to play ten more levels with a 15-minute break every two levels and a 60-minute break after the sixth level (≈ 6:30 p.m.).

The PokerNewsLive Reporting team will be providing coverage from the tournament floor until a winner is crowned on Sunday, so keep it here for updates.

Milburn Takes One Next to her Mom

The board read {2-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{9-Spades}{2-Hearts}{q-Spades} in a head's up situation when Megan Milburn sent a chip of 5,000 in the middle from the small blind position and her opponent made the call after some tank muck only to muck after Milburn tabled {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs} for two pair.

According to the table, Milburn bet 2,200 on the flop and got called. "And she bet 4,400 on the turn" added the player situated two seats from Milburn's right.

"That's my Mom, by the way, she knows better what I did that me!" said Milburn jokingly, adding "What are the odds to be next to each other? We are 900 players!"

Dawley on her Way to Rebuy

Nível 5 : 200/400, 400 ante
Jessica Dawley
Jessica Dawley

Sarah Goddard started with a min-raise to 800 under the gun and Jessica Dawley three-bet to 2,300. It folded to Mary Neilan in the small blind who four-bet to 5,200 and Goddard let it go. Dawley quickly pushed all in for 11,500, saying "You can have it all!" and Neilan called to create the following showdown:

Jessica Dawley: {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}
Mary Neilan: {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}

Dawley found no help through a board {q-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{5-Spades} and told smilingly "Ok I'll be right back" to the table.

Two Fist Pumps for May After Losing Hand

Nível 4 : 100/300, 300 ante
Heidi May (2017 Ladies Event Champion)
Heidi May (2017 Ladies Event Champion)

Heidi May and Lisa Costello were laughing about something that had happened earlier during the 100/200 level and they were kind enough to relay what had happened.

May had opened from under the gun and Teresa Thaxton shoved from the button for around 5,500 which May called.

Teresa Thaxton: {a-Diamonds}{q-}
Heidi May: {a-Hearts}{q-}

Apparently, Thaxton shouted for all red cards even though May had the {a-Hearts}.

The flop came {2-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} for Thaxton to flop a flush and straight flush draw.

The turn bricked but the river was a {5-Diamonds} to give Thaxton the straight flush indeed.

Thaxton was so excited she fist-pumped May, asked her for a photo, celebrated a bit more, and then fist-pumped May again. Unfortunately for Thaxton, she lost the doubled-up chips shortly after and her seat was taken by Jessica Dawley.

Mossey Doubles in First Hand of the Day

Nível 1 : 100/100, 0 ante
Molly Mossey (in an earlier event)
Molly Mossey (in an earlier event)

Stacy Agrusso limped in from under the gun and so did the player in mid-position. Molly Mossey raised to 400 from the cutoff and action folded back to Agrusso who called, as did the player in mid-position.

The flop came {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}, Agrusso bet 700 and the player in mid-position folded. Mossey raised to 2,100 for Agrusso to make the call.

The turn was the {3-Hearts}, Agrusso led out again, this time for 2,500. Mossey tanked for almost a minute and then raised to 6,000. Agrusso decided to shove, having Mossey only just covered as Mossey had only just sat down and this was her first hand of the day. Mossey snap-called.

Molly Mossey: {9-Spades}{9-Clubs}
Agrusso: {k-Clubs}{10-Clubs}

Mossey had flopped a set and Agrusso had king-high.

The river completed the board with the {9-Hearts} for Mossey to improve to quads and double up for a great start of the day.

Today is the day a lot of women who play poker all over the world have been looking forward to. It’s Day 1 of Event #47: $1,000/$10,000 Ladies No-Limit Hold’em Championship. In a week which is traditionally known as 'Ladies Week' in Las Vegas, there are many events running that cater for female poker players especially. But the headline has and always will be the Ladies Championship here at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino. Last year’s tournament attracted 696 entries and the 2018 winner, Jessica Dawley, will be defending her title this year.

Dawley took down the event for her first gold WSOP bracelet and $130,230 by beating Jill Pike heads-up. Lisa Fong, Mesha James, Jacqueline Burkhart, Tara Cain, Weiyi Mo, Molly-Anne Mossey, Tara Snow, and Danielle Andersen also made to the final table which featured ten ladies last year. The tournament technically costs $10,000 to enter, but with a $9,000 deduction for female players applied meaning ladies will pay $1,000 to take part.

This summer, there have already been five women featured on WSOP final tables. Maria Ho, Maria Mcalpin, Thida Lin, Jennifer Dennis, and Arianna Son all went deep but didn’t manage to win their final all-ins. Lin came the closest to winning a bracelet with a runner-up finish in Event #30: $1,000 Pot-Limit Omaha.

The tournament is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. local time here at the 50th Annual World Series of Poker. Ten levels of 60 minutes each are planned with a 20-minute break after every two levels. A 75-minute dinner break will take place after the sixth level which will be at approximately 5:40 p.m. Late registration is possible until the start of Level 9, which should be around 9:15 p.m. local time.

As usual, the PokerNews live reporting team will be bringing you all the action from the floor right here so stick around for all the latest updates!
