Frankie O'Dell Wins Third Bracelet in Event #18: $10,000 Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship ($443,641)

Frankie O'Dell stands alone at the top of the Omaha hi-lo bracelet count.

After winning Event #18: $10,000 Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship for his third bracelet — all in that variant of Omaha — O'Dell surpassed the likes of Chris Ferguson, Scotty Nguyen and Daniel Alaei, all of whom also had two Omaha hi-lo bracelets.

This one came with quite a bit more prize money than his last two — $443,641, after he won a $1,500 event in 2003 for $133,760 and a $2,000 event in 2007 for $240,057. O'Dell defeated a field of 183.

"There's only one person in the WSOP who has three Omaha eight-or-better bracelets and you're talking to them," he said when asked where he stood among the top Omaha hi-lo players. "So, until someone passes me or catches me, I'm not gonna say nothin'. I'm just gonna leave it at three."

O'Dell's win came over a characteristically tough final table that included Shaun Deeb, David Benyamine, and Rob Campbell.

The two toughest opponents to overcome proved to be fellow bracelet winners Owais Ahmed and Robert Mizrachi. After Jake Schwartz, Campbell and Nick Guagenti busted relatively early from the streamed final day, a three-handed war ensued that lasted nearly six hours.

"It was a war because you had warriors in there," O'Dell said. "You had one of the Mizrachi, great f****** player brothers, then you had one of the guys who knows almost everything in stud hi-lo and Omaha hi-lo.

"Then you've got me, old school poker."

Omaha hi-lo
The final three battled for almost six hours.

Things got dire at one point for O'Dell, after Ahmed scooped him with the nut flush and nut low to leave him on 95,000 at 100,000/200,000 limits. However, he scooped or chopped a succession of pots and was "right back in it," as someone yelled from his rail, 20 minutes later with over 10 big bets.

Ahmed appeared to be on the verge of bracelet No. 2 when he worked his way over 70 percent of the chips, but O'Dell roared back to surpass him after both players held kings but O'Dell made a straight.

It was a lead he wouldn't look back from as he sent first Mizrachi packing then Ahmed after a heads-up match that lasted only about half an hour.

"Basically, the wind blew my way and I got the win," O'Dell said. "I had an opportunity today. I had chips, we had the best Omaha players in the world in this tournament and I ended up on top."

O'Dell credited his success in Omaha to continuous grinding in the format, along with the hours spent playing stud hi-lo. He also said he was motivated by last year's second-place finish to Jeremy Harkin in $1,500 Dealer's Choice.

Finally he said he wanted to dedicate the bracelet to his daughter Victoria and her newborn son.

"I love you guys with all my heart," O'Dell said.

Owais Ahmed

Frankie O'Dell raised and Owais Ahmed called. Ahmed check-called the {8-Spades}{7-Hearts}{q-Spades} flop then led out on the {q-Diamonds} turn. O'Dell raised the last 25,000 and Ahmed called, tabling {q-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} for trips.

O'Dell had {a-Hearts}{9-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{2-Spades} for a flush draw with the nut low draw.

"Spade to win," he yelled. "Spade to win."

The dealer deliver with the {7-Spades}, sending the scoop and the bracelet to O'Dell.

Robert Mizrachi

Robert Mizrachi got the last of his money in with {q-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{2-Hearts} against the {q-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{6-Hearts} held by Frankie O'Dell. The {q-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{4-Hearts} board looked like it was going to secure Mizrachi at minimum half of the pot. However, the {k-Hearts} river sent the whole pot to O'Dell.

Owais Ahmed raised in the small blind and Frankie O'Dell called in the big blind. Ahmed continued the aggression on {q-Spades}{4-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} and was met with a raise. He called and then check-raised the {j-Clubs} turn. O'Dell called, bringing an {a-Diamonds} river. Ahmed bet and O'Dell called.

Ahmed showed {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{6-Spades} but O'Dell had better kings: {k-Spades}{9-Spades}{2-Spades}{k-Diamonds} for a straight.

Large Scoop for Ahmed

Owais Ahmed

Owais Ahmed raised and Frankie O'Dell three-bet. That didn't scare away Robert Mizrachi, who cold-called, and Ahmed made it three to {8-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{9-Clubs}. O'Dell bet and the others called, bringing a {j-Clubs}. O'Dell barreled again and Mizrachi called. Ahmed called as well so it was three to the {10-Spades} river. This time, action checked to Ahmed and he bet. Only O'Dell called.

Ahmed showed {q-Spades}{j-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} for a straight and O'Dell flicked in {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{2-Clubs}.

Nick Guagenti
Nick Guagenti

Frankie O'Dell raised on the button and called a three-bet from Nick Guagenti on his left. Guagenti bet the {2-Clubs}{6-Spades}{9-Spades} flop and the {10-Diamonds} turn. At that point, he was met with a raise. He stuck it in for 460,000 and O'Dell called with {10-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} for two pair. Guagenti had {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}.

The {q-Clubs} river kept O'Dell's hand best and Guagenti hit the rail.

Rob Campbell got his remaining chips in preflop with {q-Clubs}{7-Spades}{4-Spades}{2-Clubs}. He was up against the {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} held by Robert Mizrachi.

The board ran out {5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{5-Hearts}, helping neither player, so the ace-king held by Mizrachi took the showdown.

Robert Mizrachi raised under the gun and Nick Guagenti defended big blind. The flop came {5-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} and Guagenti check-called. On the {2-Spades} turn, Guagenti check-raised and Mizrachi reraised. Guagenti called and then bet the {10-Hearts} river. Mizrachi called with {q-}{q-}{j-}{j-} for queens full and took the hefty pot.

Jake Schwartz Eliminated in 6th Place ($76,456)

Nível 23 : 60,000/120,000, 0 ante
Jake Schwartz
Jake Schwartz

Jake Schwartz raised the button to 120,000 and Robert Campbell defended from the big blind to see a {7-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} flop.

Campbell bet 60,000, Schwartz raised to 120,000, and Campbell popped it. Schwartz called off the 10,000 he had back and the hands were turned up.

Campbell: {k-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{2-Clubs}
Schwartz: {a-Clubs}{j-Spades}{10-Clubs}{5-Hearts}

Campbell was ahead with a pair of kings but Schwartz had a double gutter. The {j-Hearts} turn improved Campbell to trips and took away eights as an option for Schwartz, as that card would fill up Campbell.

The dealer burned one last time and put out the {6-Hearts} on the river. Schwartz missed and was the first player eliminated from the feature table.
