Steve Zolotow
Steve Zolotow

Welcome to Day 3 of Event #36: $1,000 Super Seniors No-Limit Hold'em at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino. Each player left will be seeking the $311,451[/B] first-place prize money that sits atop the payout sheet, as well as the coveted WSOP bracelet that comes with being crowned the champion of this event.

The starting field of 2,219 is now down to just 43 hopefuls, many of whom are in search of their first bracelet. That's not the case for one of them — Steve Zolotow who already has two bracelets to his name and will be looking to try on a third by day's end.

Zolotow will be starting the final day with an above average stack of 294,000 and is surely the most acclaimed poker player remaining in the field. He has been playing very patiently all tournament, so look for him to be picking optimal spots to push his chips in the middle here on Day 3 as he tries to secure his first WSOP title since 2001.

There are several big stacks going into the final day and that list includes chip leader Jerry Weber (884,000), Paul W Lee (573,000), John Borzio (523,000), United Kingdom's Linda Iwaniak (521,000), and James Brown (513,000).

Play is set to kick-off at 11 a.m. local time, in the Tan section of the Amazon room. Blinds will resume at 5,000/10,000 with a 1,000 ante and will be 60-minutes in duration. The players will get a 15-minute break after every two levels of play, with a 60-minute dinner break after the sixth level.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be bringing you full coverage of this and every other WSOP event this summer.

Alfred Shanfeld raised to 36,000 and Jerry Weber called from the small blind. They went heads up to the {10-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} flop and Weber checked. Shanfeld moved all in for his last 66,000.

"What the hell it's gambling right" said Weber as he tossed in the calling chips. Shanfeld turned over {k-Hearts}{9-Hearts} for king high and Weber was ahead holding {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}.

Steve Zolotow raised to 40,000 from early position and Bruce Hugon called from the big blind. They went heads up to the {9-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} flop and both players checked. The turn was the {8-Hearts} and again both players knuckled the felt.

The river was the {7-Spades} and Hugon led out with a bet of 60,000. Zolotow thought long and hard staring across the table at Hugon and after more than a minute he called. "Queen-high" said Hugon turning over {q-Spades}{j-Clubs} and Zolotow showed {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds} for ace-high to take the pot.
