Welcome to Day 1 of Event #32: $1,000 Seniors No-Limit Hold'em
Today sees the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino host one of the World Series of Poker's most popular tournaments as Event #32: $1,000 Seniors No-Limit Hold'em gets underway.
This three-day event is open to players aged 50 and above. Day 1 will see entrants receive 5,000 in chips with blinds starting at 25/50. Ten 60-minute levels will be played out today, with 20-min breaks every two levels and a 75-min dinner break after the 6th level. One re-entry per player is allowed for those unfortunate enough to exit during the first eight levels of play.
The defending champion is Frank Maggio after last year he emerged from a record-breaking 5,389 player field for the event to win his first WSOP gold bracelet and $617,303. Maggio sealed the win after only eight hands of heads-up play against runner-up William Murray, who took home $381,233.
Some notable names among the field last year included 2015 WSOP Main Event third-place finisher Neil Blumenfield, Joe Hachem, Barry Greenstein, and Scotty Nguyen.

Shuffle Up and Deal
Today is set to see a huge Seniors field with over 4,000 players registered before the 10 a.m. start time, and there are tables set up across the whole of the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino.
Over in the Brasilia room, the tournament director Jack Effel spoke to the players about his love for the Seniors event before Poker Hall of Famer and six-time bracelet winner T. J. Cloutier addressed the room and got the action underway after announcing "shuffle up and deal."

Early Double for Gonzalez

There was a "seat open" shout from Table #48 in the first few minutes of play and on arrival it was Michael Gonzalez who was stacking an opponent's chips after achieving the early double.

Maggio Starts Well

As previously mentioned, last year's champion Frank Maggio is back once again to defend his title and has got off to a good start.
The action folded to Allen Quickfall in the hijack, and he called before Maggio made it 200 to go from the button. Both the players in the blinds called as did Quickfall. The flop came down 
, and when checked to Maggio continued with a bet. Both the blinds folded, but Quickfall called.
Both remaining players checked the 
turn, then repeated the same action on the 
river. Maggio revealed 
, and Quickfall mucked.

Raymer Loses a Big Pot

A player in early position opened to 125 and it was called by two other players, as well as Greg Raymer on the button and the player in the small blind.
The flop came 
and after everybody checked, Raymer bet 300. Only the small blind made the call. The 
fell on the turn and Raymer's opponent check-called again, this time for 550.
On the 
river the small blind checked again and Raymer fired 1,600. His opponent snap-moved all in for his last 2,000 and Raymer called. His opponent tabled 
and Raymer sent his cards into the muck.
