Taylor Paur Takes Big Chip Lead Into Day 4 of THE MARATHON

Nível 18 : 5,000/10,000, 2,000 ante
Taylor Paur
Taylor Paur

After six levels of 100 minutes each, 60 players have made it through to Day 4 of Event #24: $2,620 THE MARATHON No-Limit Hold’em. The five-day tournament trudges on, as it shed another sizable portion of the 246 players that started the day. When chips were bagged for the night, it was WSOP bracelet winner Taylor Paur who dominated his tables during the later levels. Paur bagged 2,958,000 in chips, which makes him the chipleader by a wide margin.

Trailing him by almost 100 big blinds is Anton Morgenstern with 1,775,000 and Mark Sleet with 1,550,000. Closing out the top five are Hiep Doan and Jonas Mackoff with 1,442,000 and 1,356,000 in chips, respectively.

There is no shortage of notable players to follow for Day 4 though as players like Michael Addamo (1,096,000), Matt Affleck (884,000), Julien Sitbon (868,000), WSOP Main Event Champions Martin Jacobson (811,000) and Scotty Nguyen (483,000), 888poker ambassador Chris Moorman (445,000), Stoyan Obreshkov (769,000), Cate Hall (574,000) and Martin Staszko (516,000) all made it through to the penultimate day.

Unfortunately, not everyone managed to bag their chips at the end of the day. Even though money was already locked up, some of the players that would have hoped to cash more in the end included Sam Cohen, JP Kelly, Marvin Rettenmaier, Govert Metaal, Kristen Bicknell, Pierre Merlin, David Peters, Andre Akkari, Jesse Sylvia, Ryan Riess, and Chance Kornuth.

The 60 remaining players will return at noon local time on Thursday, June 14, to play seven 100-minute levels. There will be a 15-minute break after each level with a 60-minute dinner after the fourth level. When the players return, they will play with a small blind of 6,000, big blind of 12,000 and a running ante of 2,000.

Make sure to come back to the PokerNews updates as the live reporting team will be there from the starting line to see who will make a deep run!

Champlin Wins Some Back

Nível 18 : 5,000/10,000, 2,000 ante
Spencer Champlin
Spencer Champlin

David Dopson raised to 27,000 from the under-the-gun position and was called by Spencer Champlin and Ihar Soika in the blinds.

The flop came {j-Hearts}{3-Spades}{6-Spades}, both Champlin and Soika checked. Dopson continued with a bet of 57,000. Champlin called after a few seconds and Soika folded immediately.

They both checked through the {3-Clubs} on the turn to the {10-Clubs} on the river. Champlin bet 150,000 and after some careful consideration, Dopson called. Champlin tabled {q-Hearts}{q-Spades} for two pair, queens and treys, which was good enough to win the pot as Dobson showed {a-Spades}{j-Spades} for the lower two pair.

Jonas Mackoff opened to 18,000 and Yaniv Peretz raised it to 52,000 on the button with about 450,000 left behind. Mackoff made the call and the players went to see the {4-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} flop. Mackoff check-called Peretz's continuation bet for 51,000.

The {5-Clubs} fell on the river and Mackoff check again and after a long time in the tank, Peretz bet 108,000. Mackoff called once more.

Both players checked on the {q-Spades} river and Mackoff tabled {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}. It was enough to make Peretz send his hand into the muck.

Sitbon Scores a Huge Pot; Takes Chip Lead

Nível 16 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Julien Sitbon
Julien Sitbon

The flop read {q-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{j-Spades} and there was already about 60,000 in the middle. Jason Zarlenga had 14,000 in front of him as a bet in early position and Julien Sitbon had raised to 46,000 in the big blind. Zarlenga grabbed a stack of 5,000-value chips and put it in as a bet. Sitbon asked for a count. The dealer did so and confirmed it was 151,000 in total. Sitbon decided to shove. Zarlenga snap-called and quickly flipped his cards over.

Julien Sitbon: {Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs}
Jason Zarlenga: {J-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}

They had both flopped a set but Sitbon had the upper hand with the queens. The rest of the board was completed with the {10-Clubs} on the turn and the {4-Hearts} on the river. No help for Zarlenga, Sitbon said he had Zarlenga covered but Zarlenga wanted a count.

After the dealer had dissected Sitbon's stack, she confirmed Sitbon had 684,000 in front of him. Zarlenga counted his own stack and then came to the conclusion he had the shorter stack with 560,000. Zarlenga was sent to the rail in probably one of the biggest pots of the day.
