Buckle Up! Event #2: $10,000 Super Turbo Bounty No-Limit Hold'em Plays to a Winner Today

WSOP Bracelet
WSOP Bracelet

On the first day of the 2018 World Series of Poker, a WSOP gold bracelet will be up for grabs right away! At 3 p.m. local time, cards go in the air in the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino for the first open tournament of the series, Event #2: $10,000 Super Turbo Bounty No-Limit Hold'em.

This is one of the new events on the 2018 WSOP calendar. With levels of just 20 minutes, action is expected to move quickly throughout, with players encouraged to gamble it up even further with a spicy $3,000 bounty awarded for each takedown. All players will receive 50,000 in chips to start, blinds will kick off at 100/200 and late registration is open for 12 levels, which is until about 7:40 p.m. local time.

While it's up in the air what the field size will be, with the Super High Roller Bowl attracting the high rollers already and the 25K WSOP Draft being held last night, plenty of players in town are capable of ponying up the requisite five figures to play. An elusive gold WSOP bracelet and the honor of calling themselves the first 2018 WSOP bracelet winner at the end of the night should no doubt lure many of them in to try and start off their summer with a bang.

On the very first day of the World Series of Poker it may take some time for players to blow away the cobwebs now they're back at the Rio.

One such player who happens to have good memories of the WSOP is the 2016 Main Event Champion Qui Nguyen who was in the field for Event #2. He was in early position and opened to 5,050. The player on the button stared and asked for a clarification before three-betting all in. The remaining players folded and Nguyen also folded.

"I tell you what," his opponent said, "I had a big pocket pair."

Foxen Takes From Hellmuth

Nível 2 : 100/200, 25 ante
Alex Foxen
Alex Foxen

Phil Hellmuth opened from the button and the blinds defended, including Alex Foxen in the big blind.

The flop came {2-Spades}{5-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}. It checked to Hellmuth who bet 1,400 and Foxen was the only caller. The turn was the {5-Hearts}. Foxen took the lead this time, betting 3,100 and Hellmuth raised in position to 9,600. Foxen called.

The river was the {a-Hearts}. Foxen checked and Hellmuth bet 7,000. Foxen asked to see Hellmuth's stack, before calling. Hellmuth picked up his cards, looked at them, and then flung the {a-Spades} face up on the table.

Foxen waited patiently for Hellmuth to reveal his second card. He did so, showing the {2-Diamonds}, and Foxen quickly turned over {7-Diamonds}{5-Spades} for trip fives, and took down the pot.

Duhamel Doubles Through Zinno

Nível 4 : 200/400, 50 ante
Jonathan Duhamel
Jonathan Duhamel

The board read {7-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{10-Hearts} and the pot already contained over 40,000 in it. Anthony Zinno had checked from the under-the-gun position and Jonathan Duhamel shoved for around 30,000 from mid-position. Zinno considered his options, glimpsed at the board once more and then put some yellow 1,000-value chips in to call.

The dealer instructed both players to show their cards.

Jonathan Duhamel: {7-Spades}{7-Clubs}
Anthony Zinno: {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}

Duhamel had flopped a set of sevens which beat the flopped top two pair of Zinno. The dealer counted out Duhamel's stack and it was confirmed that Zinno had to pay 31,275. Right after having paid the double-up, Zinno was moved to a new table.

Back-to-Back Bounties for Bertani

Nível 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Rafael Bertani
Rafael Bertani

Over at table 479, Rafael Bertani found himself in a massive back-to-back rush that left him over 200k in chips and two bounties richer. In the first hand, the board was {2-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{6-Clubs} and WSOP bracelet winner Mel Weiner was already all in and at risk.

Holding {A-Clubs}{3-Clubs}, Samuel Higgs tried to get Bertani out on the river with a big bet, but Bertani was having none of it and called with {A-Diamonds}{J-Spades}. Weiner mucked {K-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} and Bertani collected his first $3,000 bounty.

In the next hand, Bertani raised to 2,000, Higgs called, another WSOP bracelet winner in Anthony Marquez three-bet to 8,500 in the small blind, Brian Yoon shoved 11,800 in the big blind, Bertani five-bet to 30,000, Higgs folded, Marquez six-bet shoved 50,200 and Bertani called to put both players at risk.

Brian Yoon: {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades}
Anthony Marquez: {Q-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}
Rafael Bertani: {9-Clubs}{9-Spades}

The board ran out {10-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{6-Spades}{A-Spades}{7-Spades}, giving Yoon the winner with the nut flush. The four spades on the board improved Bertani's pocket nines to a flush as well, giving him the side pot and leaving Marquez behind empty-handed.

Power of Positivity Boosts Farrell's Stack

Nível 12 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Niall Farrell
Niall Farrell

"Do you consider yourself a pessimist?" Phil Hellmuth asked tablemate Erik Seidel.

"Probably, yeah," said Seidel after some thought. "I read your book; didn't help."

"What, 'Positivity'?" asked Hellmuth and Seidel nodded.

Meanwhile, Thai Ha opened to 6,000 and Niall Farrell three-bet to 18,500. With the action back on Ha he four-bet all in for 98,100. Farrell snap-called.

Thai Ha: {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}
Niall Farrell: {j-Hearts}{j-Spades}

"Positivity," said Farrell, "Let's go!"

The flop wasn't a good one for Farrell coming {8-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{4-Hearts} and giving Ha the lead. However, Farrell picked up a flush draw. The turn was the {7-Clubs} but the river {3-Hearts} meant that Farrell sent Ha to the rail, picking up a $3,000 bounty in the process.
