The Dark Side of the Schwartz

Nível 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Noah Schwartz
Noah Schwartz

Noah Schwartz checked to Ali Davar on a flop of {j-Hearts}{8-Spades}{3-Diamonds}, who fired out 8,000. Schwartz check-raised to 19,000, Davar called, and the turn was the {2-Clubs}. Schwartz led out for 26,000, Davar immediately moved all in for 44,300, and Schwartz slumped back in his chair.

He asked for a count, and when the dealer gave him an approximate amount, he called.

Schwartz: {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}
Davar: {q-Spades}{j-Clubs}

Schwartz was a big favorite to record the knockout, but the {q-Clubs} spiked on the river to give Davar two pair.

"What the f***," Schwartz muttered under his breath.

The dealer cut out the stacks to verify the final count, and after sending the chips over to Schwartz, he was left with just 7,000 chips.

Davar doubled to 130,000.

A Small Appetizer for Jacobson

Nível 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

With around 35,000 in the pot and a board reading {2-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}, a player in middle position checked and the start-of-day chip leader, Martin Jacobson, bet 16,000 from the cutoff. It did the trick and Jacobson's opponent folded.

Nothing too big, but a nice little appetizer for the German just prior to the dinner break.

Feenstra Leads the River

Nível 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

On fourth street the board was {k-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{8-Clubs}, and Rens Feenstra bet 2,200 out of the big blind. His opponent in the hijack made it 5,200, and Feenstra called. The {9-Hearts} hit the river, and Feenstra came out with a bet, tossing out two T5,000 chips and softly verbalizing an amount we couldn't hear. His opponent thought for a bit before he mucked.

"Nice bluff," Feenstra's opponent said.

The Dutchman silently dragged the pot.

Belluscio Baffles Galfond

Nível 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Julio Belluscio
Julio Belluscio

Phil Galfond raised from early position, Julio Belluscio called from the big blind and the flop fell {K-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}.

Belluscio check-called 2,200 from Galfond to see the {K-Clubs} turn where he opted to lead out for 2,200. Galfond called, the {Q-Spades} river completed the board and Belluscio fired 22,000. Galfond went into the tank for about two minutes before he opted to fold.

Two hands later Belluscio limped on the button, Galfond checked his option and they checked to the turn of a {10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds} board. Galfond bet 1,000, Belluscio called and the {3-Diamonds} river completed the board. Galfond check-called 3,300 from Belluscio, but the latter tabled {Q-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} to win the pot.

Isaacs With Position on Riess

Nível 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Susie Isaacs
Susie Isaacs

Susie Isaacs has just been moved to the same table as Ryan Riess and in a recent hand she was on the button. Riess was in early position and would face playing a pot out of position with Isaacs if she called his raise. Perhaps this was in his thinking when he open folded and elected to sit this one out.

It folded to Isaacs on the button who opened for 2,200. The blinds decided to get stubborn and called her bet. All three players then proceeded to check it down on a board of {k-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{10-Clubs}. No one seemed particularly inclined to show until Isaacs said, “Four.” and turned over the {a-Clubs}{4-Hearts}. The players in the blinds couldn’t beat that and the pot was hers.

Artur Arrives

Nível 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Artur Koren
Artur Koren

After a very eventful morning which included a skateboarding accident, a trip to the hospital and several X-rays, Artur Koren has finally arrived at the Rio for Day 2a of the World Series of Poker Main Event.

Contrary to previous reports, we discovered that Koren wasn't struck by a car - he simply fell.

"We were coming from the Palms," the Austrian told his table. "There is a ramp. We usually don't take it, but we were in a rush."

On one of the first hands Koren played, he called a raise from an opponent out of the blinds. The two took a flop of {3-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{4-Clubs}, Koren check-called a bet of 2,700, and the pair knuckled on the turn ({7-Diamonds}).

The {8-Clubs} completed the board, Koren led out for 4,000, and his opponent made a quick call. The Austrian showed {k-Spades}{j-Hearts} for a pair of jacks, and was awarded the pot.

Chris Johnson Doing Work

Nível 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Chris Johnson earlier this summer
Chris Johnson earlier this summer

Chris Johnson started the day with slightly less than 45,000 in chips, and after losing a pot earlier in the day to Stephen Diamantas, he was down to as low as 36,000. Since then, Johnson has eclipsed the 200,000-chip threshold.

Johnson has cashed three times at the 2014 World Series of Poker, including an 11th-place finish in Event #29: $2,500 No-Limit Hold'em for $30,267. He also made a deep run at last year's Main Event, finishing in 82nd for $71,053 and had six other cashes and a final table. With the recent upward trend, the former WSOP Circuit champion has put himself in excellent position to do the same thing again this year.
