Ivey On Time ... Obviously

Nível 5 : 200/400, 50 ante
This guy ain't going to be late for the Main Event
This guy ain't going to be late for the Main Event

"Hey Phil. How late did you register today?" shot a player from a table adjacent to Phil Ivey's.

Ivey looked up from his phone. Tipped the brim on his purple cap up slightly. Shot a cold look back and simply stated, "I didn't."

Ivey wriggled in his seat a tad and then continued, "I never arrive late for the Main Event. I'm here for the first hand."

Bad Beat Sends 2007 WSOP Player of the Year to the Rail

Nível 5 : 200/400, 50 ante
Tom Schneider
Tom Schneider

In 2007, no one had a better World Series of Poker than Tom Schneider, who finished as Player of the Year. Last year, Schneider returned to prominence when he won two more gold bracelets to top off a superb 2013. Unfortunately for Schneider, his 2014 WSOP was the polar opposite.

Schneider talked to PokerNews earlier today about his dry summer, but that he had high hopes for the Main Event.

Those hopes just died however due to a bad beat from Sam Abueid. We missed the betting, but we do know that Schneider got his chips in as a heavy favorite.

Schneider: {a-}{k-}
Abueid: {a-}{j-}

Schneider held the superior ace, but that changed when the {6-Spades}{j-Clubs}{9-Spades} flop delivered Abueid a pair of jacks. The {2-Hearts} turn was no help to Schneider, and he was collecting his things even before the {J-Spades} river improved Abueid to trips.

"Good luck," Schneider offered before exiting the 2014 WSOP.

Chinni is Thankful

Nível 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

A player in middle position opened the action with a raise to 1,300 and Jesse Chinni made it 3,800 to go from the button. The player in the small blind flatted Chinni's raise and the action was back on the original raiser. He thought for a moment and made it 9,200 to go.

Chinni sat there, not breathing out of his mouth, his chest rising heavily. He glanced over at the player in the small blind and then grabbed all but a few of his chips and placed them into the middle of the table. The player in the small blind quickly folded. Chinni's opponent thought for about five seconds and said "I call" and placed the rest of his chips in front of him while turning over {A-Spades}{K-Clubs}. He was in bad shape though as Chinni had woken up with {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}.

The flop came {Q-Clubs}{8-Spades}{5-Diamonds} causing the player in the small blind to moan. "I folded queens," he claimed. The turn was the {7-Spades} and Chinni's aces had the hand locked up. The river was an irrelevant {5-Spades} and Chinni knocked out his opponent and collected a hefty pot in the process, moving up to 96,300 in chips.

The player in the small blind continued to playfully whine about his bad luck. "I hate this game," he said. Chinni smiled and said "thank you."

"Don't thank me, thank him," the player in the small blind said, pointing to the now empty seat.

Marafioti Drags One; Frankenberger Busto

Nível 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

A player in the small blind bet 1,125 on a board of {10-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{6-Hearts}, and Matt Marafioti raised to 3,850 in the cutoff. His opponent called, and the two saw a {6-Diamonds} fall. The small blind got aggressive again with 4,325, and Marafioti cut out his chips and tanked for a couple of minutes before dropping in a hefty raise: 16,800. The small blind took an equally long time before letting his hand go.

At a nearby table, we saw Andy Frankenberger walking away. When we inquired as to his fate, the player formerly on his left said Frankenberger had flopped a set of fives, only to have an opponent turn a set of eights, at which point the two got it all in for Frankenberger's stack. Meanwhile, Calvin Anderson is down to 13,000 at the same table.

Charette Can't Believe it

Nível 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

World Series of Poker bracelet winner Simon Charette just lost a sizable pot that knocked him down to around 22,000 chips.

The board read {K-Clubs}{7-Spades}{9-Clubs}{K-Hearts}. Charette bet 2,200 and his opponent quickly moved all in for 13,075 total.

"Oh man," Charette sighed. After a pause Charette added, "This sucks!"

After a while, Charette called and was shown {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}.

"How do you flop a set against me every time?" Charette said as he showed his {K-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}.

The river was the {J-Hearts} and Charette lost this big pot.

Pocket Rockets Propel Karr to a Big Double

Nível 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

We saw McLean Karr sitting on a healthy stack, and he was kind enough to tell us how he got all those chips.

As he told it, an under-the-gun player opened for 700 and a player in middle position three-bet to 1,950. Karr then four-bet to 4,775 from the cutoff, which inspired calls from the other two players.

The {k-Spades}{8-Spades}{6-Hearts} flop saw two checks, which put action on Karr. He bet 7,200, the original raiser called, and the three-bettor folded. When the {A-Diamonds} appeared on the turn, Karr's opponent checked and Karr bet 12,000. His opponent then check-raised all in and Karr called off the 45,000 he had behind.

Karr: {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}
Opponent: {a-}{k-}

Karr had made a set on the turn, which was the money card as it also gave his opponent two pair. The river was of no consequence, and Karr saw his stack increase to 120,000.

A Dream Come True

Nível 5 : 200/400, 50 ante
Jeremy Lanosga and his Uncle Randy
Jeremy Lanosga and his Uncle Randy

In 2004, Jeremy Lanosga had a fall that fractured a vertebrae in his neck leaving him paralyzed from the chest down. He has always dreamt of playing in the Main Event and is fulfilling that dream today.

Lanosga has been raking in chips all day, and his Uncle Randy is sitting by his side ready to stack them up.

On a {q-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{a-Diamonds} board, Lanosga bet 2,000 and his opponent called. The {2-Clubs} fell on the river and both players checked. Lanosga tabled {5-Spades}{5-Clubs} to take down the 10,000-chip pot.

The very next hand, Lanosga three bet an open-raise from the player in the hijack seat to 2,900, and his opponent called. The dealer fanned out a flop of {2-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} and Lanosga's opponent check-raised a bet of 1,900 to 5,200. Lanosga then three-bet to 10,000, his opponent moved all in, and Lanosga called.

Lanosga: {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}
Opponent: {a-}{j-}

Lanosga was behind, but found some help with a {9-} on the turn. The river would complete the comeback as the dealer turned over a {q-}, giving Lanosga a straight and the sizable 30,000 pot.

Ivey Hits Six FIgures

Nível 5 : 200/400, 50 ante
Phil Ivey
Phil Ivey

Picking up the action after a flop of {A-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{3-Spades}, the player in the big blind checked to Phil Ivey who checked from under the gun. The player in middle position bet 1,525, the player in the big blind called and Ivey raised to 5,500. Only the player in middle position called to see the {7-Spades} turn where Ivey bet 10,500. His opponent shoved for 24,700 and Ivey called with {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds} for top set.

The player in middle position was drawing dead with {A-Clubs}{9-Clubs} and Ivey locked up the pot following the {10-Hearts} river.
