Event #24: $5,000 Six-Handed No-Limit Hold'em

Dia 3 Começado

Matt Jarvis Leads the Remaining 17

Matt Jarvis

Welcome to PokerNews' Day 3 coverage of Event #24: $5,000 Six-Handed No-Limit Hold'em. The starting field of 541 players is down to just 17 hopefuls, each looking to capture a coveted World Series of Poker gold bracelet and the $622,998 first-place prize.

Matt Jarvis is the chip leader with 1,373,000 following a late run on Day 2 that saw him on the right side of aces against kings. Jarvis is no stranger to this event, having won his bracelet in it in 2011. Jeremy Kottler is second with 815,000 and Bryn Kenney rounds out the top three with 612,000. The rest of the field is littered with talent, too, including 2012 WSOP Main Event champion Greg Merson (379,000), Event #20 champion Kory Kilpatrick (216,000), and many more.

Here are the Day 3 seating assignments:

There will be no back-to-back bracelets for Georgia native Kory Kilpatrick, as he was "showered" by Mustapha Kanit.

Kilpatrick raised to 22,000 in the cutoff, Kanit three-bet to 41,000 on the button, and Kilpatrick moved all in for 195,000.

"Like two-hundred?" Kanit asked.

The dealer confirmed his estimation, and the Italian called.

Kanit: {k-Hearts}{q-Clubs}
Kilpatrick: {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}

The {5-Spades}{6-Clubs}{q-Hearts} flop kept Kilpatrick in the lead, and the 2014 bracelet winner remained ahead after the {6-Spades} turn. But the man with the axe — {k-Diamonds} — completed the board, giving Kanit a pair of kings.

"You showered me," Kilpatrick told Kanit, grinning.

"I told you!" Kanit said excitedly. "I said I'd shower you!"

Kory KilpatrickMustapha told me he was gonna shower me, then he did with KQ to my AQ. Oh well, can't complain. Thanks for the love, amigos

For those of you who are confused, young poker players have shortened "hit the showers" to "showers," and when players are either eliminated or owned — or both — they are "showered."

Kilpatrick and Kanit shared a hearty laugh, and as Kilpatrick was walking out, Griffin Benger laid the icing on the cake.

"Go home and cry on your bracelet!" the Canadian cried out.

Merson Tries the Bluff

Nível 21 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Greg Merson limped in on the button, David Borrat checked his option in the big blind, and the flop fell {10-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}. Both players checked.

The turn was the {9-Clubs}, Borrat check-called a bet of 16,000, and the {10-Clubs} completed the board. Borrat checked, Merson fired out another 28,000, and Borrat made the call.

Merson revealed {j-Hearts}{7-Clubs} for jack-high, but it was no good against Borrat's {k-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} for king-high.

Big Stacks Battle

Nível 21 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Andrew Lichtenberger raised to 30,000 in the hijack, Jeremy Kottler defended his big blind, and the dealer fanned {q-Hearts}{5-Spades}{5-Clubs}. Kottler check-called a bet of 22,000, then check-called another 38,000 on the {6-Diamonds} turn.

A repeat six — the {6-Hearts} — completed the board, and Kottler check-called one last bet worth 93,000.

Lichtenberger turned over {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}, and Kottler mucked.

Jeremy Kottler raised in the cutoff, Jay Dragland moved all in for 92,000 out of the small blind, and Kottler called.

Kottler: {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}
Dragland: {k-Clubs}{j-Spades}

Dragland improved to a pair of jacks on the {7-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}, and doubled through as the turn and river bricked {a-Hearts}, {7-Hearts} respectively.
