Devilfish Can't Avoid the Fishhooks

David Ulliott
David Ulliott

With 17,000 in the pot and a board reading {J-Hearts}{3-Spades}{6-Spades}{2-Spades}{7-Clubs}, David "Devilfish" Ulliott bet 5,000 from middle position only to have the player on the button make it 25,000 to go. Ulliott only had 17,200 total, and decided to call off. Unfortunately for him, it proved to be an unwise decision as the button turned over {J-Spades}{J-Clubs} for a set.

Ulliott could only shake his head as he sent his cards to the muck. After he collected his patented knuckledusters, the Devilfish made his exit from the 2011 World Series of Poker.

Sexton Sliding

Nível 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

The board read {5-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{6-Hearts} and about 25,000 rested in between Mike Sexton and his lone opponent, sitting to his right on the button. Sexton, playing out of the small blind, checked, and his opponent fired 19,000 into the space in front of them. Sexton sat quietly, his hands folded over his cards, then grabbed the chips to call and tossed them alongside those of his opponent.

The player on the button quickly flipped over his {5-Spades}{5-Clubs} for fives full of eights, and Sexton nodded silently, acknowledging he was beat. He slid his cards face down to the dealer, and looked back at his stack which has slid a bit as well. He's down to about 35,000.

Cunningham Can't Call

Nível 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Allen Cunningham
Allen Cunningham

A player opened for 2,300 from early position and Allen Cunningham three-bet to 6,000 from the cutoff. Action folded back around to the original raiser, who stared down Cunningham's stack. He eventually pushed out a four-bet to 16,500 and Cunningham quickly mucked.

Cunningham has chipped up nicely since last we checked and, despite the small hit, is sitting with 80,000.

Mizrachi Gets There On The River

Eric Mizrachi has been grinding a short stack virtually all day, and he just survived another all in. And survived is the important word there, as he got the last of his 6,100 in preflop, and got one caller, who had him dominated.

Mizrachi: {a-Clubs}{5-Spades}
Opponent: {a-Spades}{k-Clubs}

The flop came out {a-Hearts}{8-Spades}{6-Hearts}, and Mirachi started repeating outloud "any five will do." Well he didn't get the five on the turn, the {3-Diamonds}, but the river slammed down the {5-Diamonds}, giving Mizrachi his three outer and allowing him to live on for another hand. Mizrachi is still in the danger zone, floating just over 14,000.

Poker Is Played With 52 Cards....Right?

Nível 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

We just heard an uproar from Table #261 as they demanded a count of the deck they had been playing with. Apparently, after 40 minutes of play with the same deck and dealer, a new dealer pushed and immediately felt the deck being short some cards. Then, one of the players at the table demanded a count of the deck and it was in fact eight cards short. One of the players at the table said jokingly, "Yeah, I mean I figured something was wrong when no one was hitting any flops at all."

The player who noticed the deck said, "When she seemed like something was wrong with the deck, I told her 'You better count those cards before you deal them out', and sure enough I was right. The floor just ran away with the setup and gave us a new one, but it's kind of ridiculous you know?"

Another player at the table asked the media members surrounding the table, "What do you think we should get in compensation?" Everyone seemed to agree an apology was in order to which she said, "Not on my watch, we better get something!" The table echoed her sentiments.

Players at the table next to them including 2006 Main Event Champ Jamie Gold, and Ray Henson were also curious as to what was going on, especially whether the cards had been found. Henson said, "I'm pretty sure I could feel a deck and know if it was short some cards, especially if it was that many." Gold then chimed in, "They can't just let this go, they should be searching every player at that table to make sure they weren't taking cards out of the deck the whole time."

The table is now playing with a new deck, and you better bet they are sure they have all 52 this time. If we hear anything else as to what happened to those missing eight cards or where the mystery setup has run off to, we'll let you know.

Amazing Mason

Ashley Mason
Ashley Mason

Ashley Mason raised in early position and a middle position player moved all in for a little under 9,000. Mason made the call and the players showed their hands.

Mason: {A-Hearts}{6-Hearts}
Opponent: {Q-}{Q-}

The board ran out {K-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{A-Clubs} and Mason’s opponent thought he won the pot with a straight. However Mason pointed out that he held two hearts in his hand and with the three on the board, that gave him the nut flush which was good to knockout the player.

Benba Continues To Crush Souls

Nível 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Ben Lamb
Ben Lamb

We walked by Ben Lamb's table, and noticed that he was going for his 32nd bounty of the tournament. Ok not that many but it seems like every time we look over he's collecting chips. Lamb and his short stacked opponent got all the chips in preflop, and it was your classic race.

Lamb: {6-Spades}{6-Diamonds}
Opponent: {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts}

The flop was a great one for Lamb, coming {7-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{5-Spades}. The turn was also low, coming the {3-Spades}, and the river gave Lamb an unnecessary straight, coming the {4-Clubs}. Lamb, who started the day as the biggest stack in the room, is back on top where he belongs, sporting a stack of 365,000.

Laak Down

Nível 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
"Set over set? So sick kid!"
"Set over set? So sick kid!"

We were in the media tower when we saw a commotion over on Table 370. We hustled over, and upon arrival we saw this:

Board: {9-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{4-Spades}{k-Clubs}

Ryan Olisar: {9-Spades}{9-Clubs} - 200,000 chips
Phil Laak: Mucked - 0 chips

Laak was giving an exit interview while paying his masseuse and collecting his things, and wished his table good luck before exiting the Amazon Room for his last time at the 2011 World Series of Poker. We asked Olisar what Laak had after the hand, and he told us pocket threes.

Set over set...ouch.
