The Squeaky Wheel Gets the Chips

Nível 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

By far the most-talkative table in the relatively small Tan sectioning the early going has been Table 260. There we find both Grayson Ramage and Leo Wolpert, although both of them are staying mostly quiet during the early going. So have the rest of the table. It's Michael "Squeaky" Winnett whose doing most of the talking, and indeed it began with the very first hand.

Four players, including Winnett, saw a flop come {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{7-Hearts}. A middle position player bet, and while chatting away Winnett was the only caller from late position. The turn was the {9-Hearts} and when Winnett's opponent checked Winnett's monologue continued.

"A sign of weakness!" he said. "I'll go ahead and take the first pot of the World Series of Poker then!" he added, firing a bet of two-thirds the pot. When his opponent didn't respond immediately, Winnett rejoiced. "Yes!" he said. His opponent took another 30 seconds for show, but finally let it go.

"Like mother always said," Winnett continued. "You can't win every pot until you win the first one."

Huang Feels the Fours

Over on table 279, the action folded around to Bryan Huang who raised from middle position preflop; the player in the cutoff was the only caller, so off they went heads-up to the flop of {8-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{2-Clubs}. Huang flung out a T500 chip and the cutoff quickly called, then both players checked down both the turn of the {7-Diamonds} and the river {5-Hearts}.

The cutoff player showed down {4-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} and Huang let his hand go. Don't hit the panic button yet, Huang's only lost 500 of his start bank of 30,000!

Pushing Out

Nível 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

The dealer at Table 362 -- where Brad Garrett lives -- has just been pushed out, and the comic gave her a loud ovation as she slid her chair out and stood up. She didn't leave immediately, however. She walked around the table and paused beside Garrett in the eight seat while the gentleman in the five seat took her camera and snapped a quick souvenir photo for the lady. You never know who you might be sitting next to -- or dealing to -- in the Main Event.

As a reminder to the gentleman in seat five, though, there is no flash photography permitted anywhere inside the Amazon Room.

Schwartz Loses Some Early

Nível 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

We caught the action on the flop between Justin Schwartz, who was in the under the gun position, and his opponent in the cutoff heads up. The board read {2-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{2-Spades} and Schwartz led for 300. His opponent called and the turn was the {k-Diamonds}. Schwartz bet 750 and once again his opponent called.

The river was the {j-Spades} which brought one more bet from Schwartz, this time for 1,600. This time the player in position threw out a raise to 5,000. Schwartz thought a bit before mucking his hand and falling to 27,000.

Lee Cracks Aces

When we happened upon the table, five players were involved in a hand with a board reading {J-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}. Bernard Lee had checked in the small blind, and the player in the big blind followed suit. A middle-position player then bet 800, which only Lee called.

When the {K-Spades} peeled off on the river, Lee check-called a bet of 1,150 and revealed {10-Spades}{9-Spades} for a straight. It was good as his opponent showed {A-Spades}{A-Clubs} before mucking.

Somerville Ships One From Boatman

Jason Somerville's summer got off to a great start - the American pro picked up two cashes in this series, but one of them was particularly special, because it came with his very first gold bracelet.

He's also managed to pick up an early pot off Barny Boatman over on table 280. Our field reporter picked up the action heads-up on a flop that read {6-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}, where Boatman led out for 425 from the hijack position. Somerville called, then Boatman checked to Somerville when the dealer produced the turn of the {8-Spades}.

Somerville bet 650, but Boatman check-raised to 2,050. Somerville called, then both players elected to check down the river {3-Diamonds}. Boatman showed {8-Hearts}{6-Hearts} for two pair, but Somerville was best with {8-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} for the flush!
