The death of musician, recording engineer and poker player Steve Albini hit the music world with a force like that of the incendiary device aimed at Earth pictured on Big Black's 1986 debut album Atomizer. It may have hit one group of Chicago poker players the hardest.
Albini, a two-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner who recorded landmark works by bands like Nirvana and Pixies and who The New York Timesdescribed as "one of the most admired, and most divisive, figures in rock," was a key figure in a friend group that bonded, joked and supported one another over the poker table. For 20 years, they played in a weekly low-stakes Chicago home game often held in Electrical Audio that included bracelet winners like Jason Gola, Eric Rodawig and Brian Hastings. Now, the game is on hiatus after Albini's death in May as the group of poker pros, musicians and audio engineers adapts to a world without its figurehead.
PokerNews spoke with two of Albini's closest friends who were regulars in the game, Brandon Shack-Harris and Andrew Kosinski.

The action folded around to Mustapha Kanit in the small blind who shoved all in as the big stack. Vadzim Lipauka was in the big blind and instantly called off his stack of 42,000,000.
Vadzim Lipauka: A♥8♥
Mustapha Kanit: Q♣4♥
The flop came Q♦9♠5♠ and Kanit spiked a pair of queens to take the lead. The 3♣ on the turn was a brick and the J♣ on the river secured Lipauka's fate in eighth place. Kanit showed some excitement as he raked in the pot, bringing the field down to seven.

Michael Addamo raised to 6,000,000 on the button and Georg Lehmann three-bet shoved his short stack of 24,000,000 into the middle from the small blind. Yinan Zhou folded his big blind and Addamo quickly called.
Georg Lehmann: A♣9♠
Michael Addamo: A♠J♥
The flop fell K♥Q♥3♥ which left Addamo in the lead with the best hand and the only draws. The 2♠ on the turn was a brick and the J♣ on the river paired Addamo, eliminating Lehmann in ninth place.

Georg Lehmann raised to 6,000,000 in middle position with 8♥8♣ and Christopher Nguyen three-bet to 11,000,000 from the hijack with K♦Q♣. The action folded back to Lehmann who called to see a flop of 9♦7♣3♦.
Lehmann quickly checked to Nguyen who continued with a bet of 6,000,000. Lehmann flicked in a call and the A♣ rolled off on the turn. Lehmann checked again and Nguyen flicked in a small bet of 5,000,000. Lehmann shook his head and dumped the best hand into the muck.

Caesars Entertainment has finalized the $500 million sale of the biggest brand in poker to GGPoker's parent company, according to an announcement in late October.
Back in August, Caesars Entertainment shocked the poker world when it announced that it would be selling World Series of Poker (WSOP) to NSUS Group Inc, a leading investment group and operator GGPoker. The deal was solidified Tuesday and includes a $250 million cash transaction and a $250 million promissory note due in five years.
Though the WSOP sale marks a shakeup in the industry, poker players can still expect the summer WSOP to be held in Las Vegas for the next 20 years. Additionally, poker rooms at Caesars properties will continue to feature WSOP branding.

Mustapha Kanit opened to 6,000,000 from under the gun with A♦10♣ and Marcelo Aziz defended from the big blind with 4♣4♦.
They went heads-up to a flop of A♥J♣2♥ and Aziz checked to Kanit who fired out a bet of 7,500,000 after flopping top pair. Aziz whiffed while looking for a set and quickly mucked his hand.
The final day of the 2024 World Series of Poker Paradise has arrived and a champion will be declared in the $25,000 WSOP Super Main Event. A field of 1,978 entries was recorded for the $50 million guaranteed prizepool — the largest ever in the history of poker. That number has been dwindled down to the final nine players who will gather on the feature table stage for the final time today at 12 p.m. local time.
If there is one thing that eight of the nine players don't want to hear, it is that Michael Addamo is the chip leader. However, that will be something they have to overcome as the Australian poker pro holds a distinct advantage with 196,800,000 chips. Addamo has been the front-runner over the last 48 hours and is well on his way to securing another seven-figure payday and possibly the largest of his career. He will also be looking for his fifth WSOP gold bracelet while many others are searching for their first.
Following in his footsteps is German newcomer Christopher Nguyen who has recently been dabbling in the high-stakes scene. With only a few recorded results on the live scene, Nguyen has already secured his best score with this run in The Bahamas. But surprising the poker world with a victory in the largest poker tournament ever would be an early Christmas gift that not even he expected.

Justin Bonomo with three WSOP bracelets and Liv Boeree with one, albeit coming in a tag team event, are the only other players with a piece of jewelry coming into this final table. Although Mustapha Kanit is looking for his first, he could also pass the great Dario Sammartino as #1 on the Italy all-time money list with a win here today.
The rest of the field will be looking to become a household name with a victory here today, along with pocketing the huge first-place prize of $6,000,000. The players are just one elimination away from becoming a millionaire which would be the best result of their career for many of them.
