$5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha

Dia 2 Começado

Welcome to Day 2 of the WSOP APAC Event #5 $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha

Greg Merson
Greg Merson

Yesterday, 73 players entered the 2014 World Series of Poker Asia-Pacific Event #5 $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha, but after 10 one-hour levels of play, just 19 of the remained with Jamie Pickering and his stack of 105,900 leading the way. However, late registration is open until the start of Day 2, so that number could very well go up as last-minute hopefuls enter for their shot at a WSOP bracelet.

The only other player who will start the day with six figures is 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event champ Jonathan Duhamel, who bagged 102,000 on Day 1.

Not too far behind are Ismael Bojang (96,600), Geoffrey Moony (96,200), and Mike Watson (92,200), while Australian Poker Hall of Famer Jason Gray, who finished runner-up to Jeff Lisandro in Event #3 $1,650 PLO yesterday, is eyeing up even more PLO success as he starts the day seventh in chips with 75,800.

Others who will be returning for Day 2 are Aaron Lim (45,000), Richard Ashby (39,600), Jeff Rossiter (35,200), John Dalessandri (17,400), Billy “The Croc” Argyros (12,300), and Dan Heimiller (5,200). Likewise, the $5,000 PLO was the first event of the WSOP APAC for 2012 WSOP Main Event champ Greg Merson, who arrived in Melbourne yesterday after some nightmarish travel delays. Merson, who begins today with 63,800, spoke with Senior New Editor Chad Holloway about those delays:

Action will kick off at 12:30 p.m. local time, which is about a half hour from now. Of course the PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be on hand to capture all the action from the Crown Casino in Melbourne, Australia, so stay tuned.

Dan Heimiller began the day on an extreme short stack, so it was really no surprise that he was the first player to fall.

He was in the big blind when he got his chips in against Richard Johnston.

Heimiller: {a-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}
Johnston: {k-Clubs}{k-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}

Johnston was ahead with his kings, and they held as the board ran out a dry {7-Spades}{3-Hearts}{6-Spades}{3-Spades}{4-Spades}.

Early Double for Rossiter

Nível 11 : 600/1,200, 0 ante

Action exploded on a {q-Spades}{9-Spades}{a-Clubs} flop between Nathan Pan and Jeff Rossiter that resulted in the latter getting his stack all in.

Rossiter: {a-Spades}{j-Spades}{2-Clubs}{q-Hearts}
Pan: {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{a-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}

Rossiter had flopped top pair with a flush draw, but he was behind the set of Pan. the {10-Spades} turn have Rossiter the lead with the said flush, but he needed to avoid the board pairing to stay alive. That's just what he did too as the dealer burned and put out the {7-Diamonds} on the river. Ship the double to Rossiter.

Watson vs. Roberts

Nível 11 : 600/1,200, 0 ante

Brian Roberts was one of the seven players to late register at the start of Day 2, and he got things going right with a double through Mike Watson.

Roberts got his stack all in preflop and was on the better end of a kings-versus-queens situation.

Roberts: {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}
Watson: {q-Hearts}{q-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{9-Spades}

The {3-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{8-Hearts} flop kept Roberts in the lead, and the {K-Spades} turn actually guaranteed him the double with a set. The meaningless {7-Spades} was put out on the river for good measure, and Roberts raked in the pot.

Battle of The Sams Results in Elimination of Ngai

Nível 11 : 600/1,200, 0 ante
Sam Ngai
Sam Ngai

Over on table 11 we saw the flop of {2-Hearts} {6-Hearts} {Q-Spades} and Sam Ngai as well as Sam Higgs were involved in a raising war that saw Ngai all in and at risk for his tournament life with {K-Clubs} {6-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds}. His top two pair were dominated by the {Q-Hearts} {Q-Clubs} {K-Spades} {4-Clubs} of Higgs and he needed running cards for a straight or backdoor quads in order to stay alive.

The {J-Diamonds} on the turn saw Ngai drawing dead and the meaningless {9-Diamonds} on the river completed the board.

Jomeen Next to Fall

Nível 11 : 600/1,200, 0 ante
Karim Jomeen
Karim Jomeen

Nathan Pan raised from the button and Karim Jomeen reraised the pot only for Pan to put him all in. Jomeen called it off and the two of them tabled their cards:

Jomeen: {2-Hearts} {6-Spades} {K-Diamonds} {K-Hearts}
Pan: {Q-Hearts} {J-Diamonds} {9-Hearts} {J-Hearts}

Pan found an open ended straight draw on the {9-Spades} {3-Hearts} {10-Clubs} flop and improved further with the {9-Clubs} on the turn. Only one of the two remaining kings could save Jomeen, but it wasn't meant to be as the {6-Hearts} fell on the river.
