After three days of playing, Rinat "Zapahzamazki" Lyapin topped a 1,971-player field to win WCOOP-02-H: $1,050 NLHE [8-Max, Progressive KO, Sunday Slam] for $175,586 total. Lyapin defeated Brazilian Eduardo "Eduardo850" Silva heads-up, who received $140,300 for his efforts.

Lyapin and Silva made a three-way deal with "JEIK0" who's playing from Panama. "JEIK0" received $123,048 total to become the third player with a six-figure score in this tournament. The total prize pool was the guaranteed $2,000,000, leaving a slight overlay to the benefit of the players.

The Russian has over $70,000 in lifetime winnings on his Hendon Mob profile, with his two most recent cashes already dating over five years ago from the 2016 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. Under his "Zapahzamazki" moniker, the Russian has been tearing it up as he also racked up two additional five-figure cashes (both in PLO8) just in the past days alone.

Yuri "theNERDguy" Dzivielevski finished in fourth place for $76,975, while big names like Joni "bustoville" Jouhkimainen, Thomas "WushuTM" Muehloecker, and Luke "Bit2Easy" Reeves missed out on the final table.

Action of the Day

16 out of 1,971 players returned for the final day, with the aforementioned big names falling by the wayside early. The final table started without a clear chip leader, with Silva, "JEIK0", and Andy "BowieEffect" Wilson close to each other at the top. Silva tumbled down after a bad start before Rasmus "Powergolf" Zerr and Alex "AlexGelinski" Gelinski busted in close succession, both losing to ace-five suited.

The rest of the final table was a swingy affair, with each of the remaining seeing both the highs and lows of the leaderboard.
Dzivielevski, the biggest notable at the final table, then won a massive race with ace-king against Wilson's queens to bust the latter in seventh. The Brazilian swung back after losing a race with eights to "JEIK0"'s ace-jack, handing his lesser experienced opponent the lead.

Both Dutchmen at the final table, "Killer_ooooo" and "Darwinsfish" were next to depart. For "Darwinsfish", it was a brutal ending as he had taken the chip leader mantle off "JEIK0" just shortly before. With blinds moving up, "Darwinshfish" open-shoved with the ace-nine and "JEIK0" picked up ace-queen. The Dutchy flopped a straight flush draw but suffered a case of the too-many-outs syndrome as bricks on the turn and river relegated him to about ten big blinds. Those went in unsuccessfully against Lyapin after to leave the final four.

Yuri Dzivielevski
Yuri "theNERDguy" Dzivielevski finished in 4th place

Dzivielevski held the short stack at that point and lost calling a blind-on-blind shove with queen-eight to lose against Silva's ace-five. The three remaining players made a deal that left each of them at least $100,000 richer. With the blinds continuing to escalate, play entered shallow territory and after hot-potatoeing the lead around, it was Silva who eliminated "JEIK0" with a full house to start the heads-up.

Lyapin started the heads-up behind in chips but doubled with a rivered two pair before the final chips went in the middle. Silva, opting for a stone bluff with jack-high, got caught by Lyapin as the latter wasn't folding top pair. With that, the Russian won the tournament and added the big PKO bounty of $68,516 to the deal prize for a total of $175,586 and a WCOOP title.

There's plenty more WCOOP-action to follow in the upcoming weeks! Follow along with PokerNews live reporting throughout the festival.

The final hand

After the double-up, small hands were being played with the shallow stacks and Rinat "Zapahzamazki" Lyapin took a slight lead after them before the final hand of the night occurred. It was Lyapin who completed the small blind and Silva who checked his option.

Both players also checked the {9-Spades}{5-Clubs}{8-Spades} flop before the action kicked off on the {a-Spades} turn. Silva checked, Lyapin bet 3,500,000, Silva check-raised to 14,000,000, and Lyapin called.

The river was the {2-Hearts} and Silva shoved all in for 58,017,488. Lyapin called and Silva tabled {j-Spades}{3-Diamonds} for a complete airball. Lyapin rolled over {a-Diamonds}{3-Spades} for a pair of aces to win the tournament on the spot.

Silva received $111,150 after the deal plus a big bounty of $29,150. Lyapin received $107,070 but, as is tradition in a PKO, also walked away with the biggest bounty worth $68,516.

Silva made a boat on a {7-Spades}{7-Clubs}{9-Spades}{4-Spades}{9-Hearts} board to send "JEIK0" to the rail in 3rd place, who received a sizable pay increase after the three-way deal. It was a very small bounty of $1,902 that Silva received in addition for eliminating "JEIK0".

Just moments ago, "Darwinsfish" was so close to a huge four-handed lead after flopping a straight flush draw, but was left with just 14 big blinds after bricking it. After folding some hands, he had a little under ten big blinds left and those went in first to act.

From the small blind, Rinat "Zapahzamazki" Lyapin looked him up.

"Darwinsfish": {a-Clubs}{3-Clubs}
Rinat "Zapahzamazki" Lyapin: {4-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}

The {j-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{4-Clubs} flop all but sealed it for Lyapin, although the {10-Hearts} turn opened up a straight possibility. The {j-Clubs} river slammed that door shut and "Darwinsfish" was gone in fifth.

This Time? Some of the Top Talents Who Have (Inexplicably) Never Won During WCOOP

WCOOP Players

Just before the 2018 World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) got under way, we took a look at five players who were overdue a victory in poker’s premiere tournament series. There was simply no rational explanation for how come all of Niklas “Lena900” Astedt, Simon “C. Darwin2” Mattsson, Luke “lb6121” Schwartz, Talal “raidalot” Shakerchi and Tobias “kuhns89” Hausen had not, to that point, won a WCOOP tournament.

Two years on, only Astedt has put it right. He won the $530 PLO 6-Max in 2018 to get the monkey off his back.

Today we’re taking a look at another list of brilliant talents who have not yet won a title during WCOOP. But remember as you read the list of nearly men below that Mattsson, Schwartz, Shakerchi and Hausen are still looking for that WCOOP title too. Perhaps there’s no real shame in all of this.
