Day 3 Begins at Noon Local Time; Arocena Leads

Chip leader Julio Arocena
Chip leader Julio Arocena

Just 24 players remain out of the 261 entries in the first-ever PokerStars Festival Uruguay Main Event at the Conrad Hotel & Casino in Punta del Este. While all remaining players are guaranteed to cash for at least $3,340, each one of them has their eyes fixed on the top prize of $76,155 and the championship trophy.

At the head of the pack is Julio Arocena who bagged a stack of 566,000 chips at the conclusion of Day 2 play, and not far behind him is Argentinian Julio Belluscio with 511,000. The only other player to bag a stack in excess of half a million chips was PokerStars Cup Uruguay winner Gustavo Prato, who will take a stack of 507,000 chips out of the bag when play resumes. Accomplished Argentinian player Francisco Araujo is still in the hunt, as well, with a very healthy stack of 410,000, which is well above the current 271,875-chip average.

The remainder of the field is scheduled to play down to eight players on Day 3 with the eventual champion being determined on Day 4. The clock will restart with just over half an hour remaining in level 17. There will be a 20-minute break every two levels and an 80-minute dinner break after six full levels of play. The seat draw for the day's action is as follows:

Belluscio Assumes the Chip Lead In a Massive Pot

Nível 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Julio Belluscio
Julio Belluscio

Catching the action on a flop of {5-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} Julio Belluscio checked over to Renan Toniolo who put out a bet of 38,000. Belluscio then decided to check-raise, making it 80,000 to go. Toniolo thought it over then called.

The turn was the {3-Clubs} and Belluscio fired again, betting 73,000. Toniolo called once more.

The {3-Diamonds} on the river completed a flush draw. Belluscio slowed down and checked. Toniolo thought for a long time and then checked behind. Belluscio showed {Q-Hearts}{Q-Spades} for two pair and Toniolo mucked his hand. That allowed Belluscio to collect the almost 400,000 chip pot and move into the chip lead.

Mathias Duarte Eliminated in 24th Place ($3,340)

Nível 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Mathias Duarte
Mathias Duarte

Roberly Felicio opened from the cutoff with a raise to 18,000 and Mathias Duarte three-bet shoved from the button for 89,000. Felicio called to put Duarte at risk and the two players tabled their hands.

Duarte: {A-Spades}{J-Clubs}
Felicio: {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts}

Duarte had the preflop advantage with the better ace, but Felicio caught up when the flop fell {10-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{4-Spades}. The {2-Diamonds} turn and {A-Clubs} river failed to sufficiently improve Duarte and Felicio took the pot to end Duarte's run in this event.

Hugo Marcelo

Hugo Marcelo was in the small blind and heads-up against Renan Toniolo on a flop of {5-Clubs}{3-Spades}{2-Clubs}. There were already about 20,000 chips in the pot and Marcelo checked to Toniolo who bet 10,000. Marcelo check-raised to 30,000 and the rest of the chips quickly went in the middle in a flurry of activity.

Marcelo: {4-Spades}{3-Clubs}
Toniolo: {6-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}

Marcelo had flopped middle pair and an open-ended straight draw but was up against the Toniolo's flopped nut straight. The {8-Spades} turn and {K-Diamonds} river were no help to Marcelo and Toniolo took the pot to end Marcelo's run in this event.
