A Champion Will Be Crowned on Day 5 of the PSPC

Poker players from all over the world had this day circled on their calendar for over a year now and it has finally arrived for eight hopefuls remaining. The final day of the $25,000 PokerStars Players Championship is set to begin at the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas for the official final table.

This record-breaking event that PokerStars envisioned attracted a total of 1,039 players, making it the largest $25,000 tournament ever. The field has dwindled down to just eight players over the course of the first four days and now one of them will be awarded a whopping $5.1 million for first. Each player is guaranteed at least $509,000 and the top six will walk away with at least $1,000,000.

For the second day in a row, Scott Baumstein will stroll in with the chip lead. Baumstein accumulated 10,725,000 chips after Day 4, never really finding himself at risk of being in trouble. Not far behind him is Platinum Pass winner Marc Rivera with 10,350,000. Rivera is one of two players on the ultimate freeroll, Ramon Colillas being the other player with 8,300,000.

The action will get underway at 1 p.m. with 39:28 remaining in level 32. The blinds will be 125,000/250,000 with a 250,000 big blind ante. The levels will continue to be 60-minutes in length until the heads-up portion of the tournament is reached, at which point they will become 30 minutes. There will also be a 20-minute break after every two levels.

The livestream will kick off at the start of play and will be aired starting at 1:30 p.m. on a 30-minute delay. It can be accessed through Twitch or by clicking on the 'Livestream' tab. The PokerNews live reporting team will be bringing you hand-for-hand coverage in sync with the stream until a winner is crowned.

Hand #7: Marc Rivera opened for 500,000 with {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts} in the hijack and Julien Martini made it 1,325,000 with {a-Spades}{q-Spades}. Jattin picked up the {7-Spades}{7-Diamonds} in the small blind and used a couple of time extensions before mucking.

In the next seat, Talal Shakerchi woke up with {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs} and shoved all in for 5,250,000. Rivera mucked and Martini thought a bit but opted to call after it folded back to him.

The flop came {3-Clubs}{k-Spades}{2-Hearts}, little to fear for Shakerchi, but the {10-Spades} brought lots of outs for Martini. The river: {5-Spades}, busting Shakerchi in sick fashion.

Hand #17: Julien Martini opened to 600,000 in the hijack with {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs} and Farid Jattin shoved all in for 6,200,000 with {a-Spades}{j-Spades} in the cutoff. Scott Baumstein folded {8-Spades}{8-Clubs} in the big blind and Martini made a quick call.

Jattin was in a dominated position and would need some help in order to stay alive. The flop fell {6-Spades}{5-Spades}{2-Diamonds} to give Jattin a flush draw. The {q-Diamonds} on the turn was no help and the {10-Clubs} on the river sent Jattin to the rail in seventh place.

Hand #18: Julien Martini raised and took the blinds and antes with {7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}.

Hand #19: Martini opened again with {q-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} under the gun and Marc Rivera called in the small blind with {q-Spades}{q-Hearts}.

The flop came {7-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{7-Clubs} and Rivera check-called 600,000. A {3-Clubs} hit on the turn and Rivera faced a bigger bet of 2,325,000. Rivera used a time bank and then slid in calling chips. A {6-Clubs} double-paired the board and Martini jammed for 5,275,000.

Rivera used two time banks and then folded.

Hand #20 Martini got a walk.

Hand #21: Ramon Colillas opened to 650,000 from under the gun with {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs} and Julien Martini called from the small blind with {9-Diamonds}{5-Spades}. Marc Perrault was all in for just 425,000 in the big blind holding {6-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} which created a side pot.

Martini checked blind before the flop of {q-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{4-Spades} hit the felt. Colillas bet 425,000 and Martini quickly sent his cards to the muck. The two remaining hands were tabled and Perrault would need runner-runner in order to stay alive. The {8-Clubs} on the turn meant Perrault was drawing dead to the {4-Hearts} on the river.

Hand #38: Julien Martini opened to 800,000 from under the gun with {k-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} and Scott Baumstein pushed all in for 6,625,000 with {a-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} in the small blind. Baumstein was the short stack at the table and Martini asked for a count before making the call.

The flop came {k-Spades}{8-Hearts}{3-Hearts} to give Martini the lead with a pair of kings. The turn brought the {4-Spades} leaving Baumstein drawing to just an ace. The {10-Spades} on the river eliminated Baumstein in fourth place and Martini took a sizeable chip lead against his two Platinum Pass rivals.

Hands #50-55: Colillas Doubles Through Rivera

Nível 34 : 200,000/400,000, 400,000 ante
Ramon Colillas
Ramon Colillas

Hand #50: Julien Martini raised with {7-Hearts}{6-Hearts} to 800,000 on the button and Ramon Colillas called with {k-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} in the small blind.

The flop came {8-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{q-Spades} and both players checked, leading to a {6-Spades} turn. Colillas bet 1.4 million and Martini popped it to 4.1 million. Colillas needed a time extension and put in a call. The river {a-Spades} checked through, with Martini saying he hoped it was queen-jack or king-queen and being pleased to see he was right.

Hand #51: Colillas raised to 800,000 on the button with {a-Hearts}{2-Spades} but folded to a three-bet from Julien Martini, who had {j-Clubs}{7-Spades} and made it 2 million.

Hand #52: Marc Rivera min-raised with {10-Hearts}{8-Spades} on the button and Colillas defended {k-Diamonds}{j-Spades}.

They checked to the turn on {5-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} and Colillas bet 1.1 million. Rivera called and the river was the {9-Spades}. Colillas bet 1.4 million and Rivera called fairly quickly with his tens up.

Hand #53: Martini woke up with the {a-Spades}{a-Clubs} on the button but his raise went un-called.

Hand #54: Rivera completed {q-Spades}{6-Spades} and Martini raised to 1.4 million with {k-Clubs}{8-Clubs}. Rivera said he should play but gave it up with a chuckle.

Hand #55: Rivera raised to 1.1 million with {a-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} on the button and Colillas defended big blind with {k-Clubs}{5-Hearts}.

Colillas checked and Rivera instantly announced all in on the {2-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} flop. Colillas called with his second pair for 3.7 million. The {9-Diamonds} brought more outs for Rivera in the form of a flush draw but the {6-Clubs} river was a brick.
