Chris Hunichen Leads Day 1 of the Caribbean Poker Party $5,300 MILLIONS Finale

Nível 8 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante

A total of 106 entries took to the felt for Day 1 of the $5,300 MILLIONS Finale at the Caribbean Poker Party Festival, 65 of which bagged chips at the conclusion of play. Leading the way is Chris Hunichen (3,897,000), who just won the $25,500 MILLIONS Super High Roller, and close behind are Diego Ventura with 3,462,000, Ming Zhe Zhang with 3,431,000, Vojtech Ruzicka with 3,361,000, and Conor Beresford with 3,155,000.

Although no other players bagged a stack in excess of the 3,000,000-chip mark, a laundry list of accomplished players advanced to Day 2 action alongside the current chip leaders, including partypoker Sponsored Pro Roberto Romanello (2,908,000), Steve O'Dwyer (2,820,000), partypoker Sponsored Pro Natalia Breviglieri (2,502,000), John Duthie (2,361,000), partypoker Sponsored Pro Kristen Bicknell (2,299,000), partypoker Sponsored Pro Marcel Luske (1,953,000), Jonathan Little (1,806,000), partypoker Sponsored Pro Anatoly Filatov (1,530,000), Stephen Chidwick (1,254,000), Kenny Hallaert (1,228,000), Barny Boatman (1,048,000), Adrian Mateos (737,000), Sergio Aido (680,000), and Steven van Zadelhoff (680,000).

Unfortunately, not all the familiar faces who tried their luck in this event survived to the day's end. Rainer Kempe, who shipped the $1,100 MILLIONS Open earlier this week, took his seat early in the day but didn't survive to bag chips at the end.

Day 2 begins Friday at noon local time. Late registration and re-entry will be available until the end of the second break when level 13 begins. The field is scheduled to play eight one-hour levels before bagging chips for the night and will play down to a winner Saturday on Day 3.

The Day 2 seat draw can be found below.

Luske Doubles Up

Nível 5 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Marcel Luske
Marcel Luske

Partypoker Sponsored Pro Marcel Luske was in middle position and got all the chips in the middle on a {9-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{2-Clubs} flop against a single opponent in the small blind who had him covered.

Luske: {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}
Small blind: {8-Clubs}{6-Clubs}

Luske was ahead with his kings but needed to dodge his opponent's straight and flush draws in order to win the pot. Neither the {9-Spades} on the turn nor the {7-Diamonds} on the river changed anything, so Luske took the chips to double up.

Kempe Doubles Up

Nível 4 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Rainer Kempe
Rainer Kempe

There was a substantial pot of about 930,000 already brewing and the board read {9-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{A-Spades} when we got to the table. Rainer Kempe bet 160,000 from the cutoff and his lone opponent called from the button.

The {2-Clubs} fell on the river and after spending a bit of time in the tank, Kempe checked. The button jammed for about 375,000, and after some consideration, Kempe called for less and tabled {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}. His hand was good enough to win the pot against the button who held {8-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} so he took the chips to double up.

Aldemir Doubles Through Jachtmann

Nível 4 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Koray Aldemir in a previous event
Koray Aldemir in a previous event

There were already about 115,000 chips in the middle and the board read {A-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} when we got to the table. Koray Aldemir checked from the big blind, Jan-Peter Jachtmann bet 75,000 from under the gun, a player folded from middle position, the cutoff called, and Aldemir check-raised to 240,000. Jachtmann shoved, putting Aldemir to a decision for the remainder of his stack, and he quickly called.

Aldemir: {5-Clubs}{3-Clubs}
Jachtmann: {A-Spades}{K-Spades}

Aldemir was way ahead with the flopped nuts and Jachtmann needed a lot of help from the deck in order to stack him. Neither the {4-Spades} turn nor the {9-Clubs} river changed anything, so Aldemir took the pot to double up.

Welcome to the Caribbean Poker Party $5,300 MILLIONS Finale

The Level at Melia Caribe Tropical
The Level at Melia Caribe Tropical

Although most of the 2017 Caribbean Poker Party Festival presented by partypoker LIVE is in the books, the $5,300 Main Event is well underway in the stunning seaside town of Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, and last event of the series, the MILLIONS Finale, kicks off at noon local time. Players will begin with 1,000,000 starting chips and $1,000,000 is guaranteed.

There is one more scheduled starting flight following this one and it is slated to begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday. Play on Day 1 will consist of eight levels; the noon flight will have 60-minute levels and the evening flights will have 30-minute levels. Late entry and re-entry are available through the end of level 12. All surviving players will combine for Day 2 on Friday and the eventual winner will be determined on Day 3.

It is noteworthy that the structure for each event in this tournament series utilizes button antes. Instead of each player at the table posting an ante every hand, the button posts the only ante at the table. From level 2 onward, the button ante is equal to the big blind. Blinds start at 2,500/5,000 with a 2,500-chip button ante.
