Anas Tadini Leads After Day 1 of the 2016 Marrakech Poker Open

Nível 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Anas Tadini

What started rather slowly turned into a reentry festival for the 2016 Marrakech Poker Open Main Event. With a buy-in of 10,000 Moroccan dirhams (MAD), 220 entries generated a prize pool of 1.914 million MAD to be split among the top 27 spots. A minimum cash is worth 18,000 MAD, and the winner can look forward to a payday of 440,000 MAD on Sunday.

These numbers convert to approximately $200,000 for the prize pool, $1,850 for a min-cash, and $45,600 for the winner.

After 13 levels of 45 minutes each, it was Anas Tadini who bagged up the most chips with 330,000. Tadini was also among those to fire multiple bullets, but his success came from winning two crucial flips. First, he won with sevens versus ace-king. Second, he won with ace-king against the pocket queens of Pieyre Maggi in the last level of the night to claim the overnight lead.

Almost one-third of the field, 69 to be exact, consisted of reentries. Several notables such as Erwann Pecheux, Paul-Francois Tedeschi, Guillaume Darcourt (three bullets), and Guillaume Diaz (four bullets) entered multiple times without bagging up chips for Day 2.

They were joined on the rail by Spanish Poker League champion Toufik Ouirini, Sarah Herzali, Rebecca Gerin, Abdelhadi Kondah, Selim Oulmekki, 2014 WPT Marrakech champion Mostafa Boukri, and Leo Margets.

There were some 55 players left with other big stacks and notables including Fahd (305,700), Abdenbi Abida (288,200), Dominique Terzian (244,800), Philippe Ktorza (215,200), Alexandre Viard (176,300), Said El Yousfi (120,000), and World Series of Poker bracelet winner Barny Boatman (110,600). Mohamed Ali Houssam, winner of the 2011 WPT Marrakech, bagged up 77,500 chips, and Isabel Baltazar (62,000) was the last woman in the field.

Full chip counts and the Day 2 table draw will be provided as soon [I]PokerNews/I] receives them, and action for Day 2 will kick off at 2 p.m. local time on Saturday. Play will continue until the final table of the nine is realized, and there's plenty of room for some great poker to be witnessed with one-hour levels and blinds starting at 1,200/2,400/300.

Make sure to tune back in on Saturday for continued coverage of the 2016 Marrakech Poker Open Main Event.

Tadini Wins Big Flip

Nível 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Anas Tadini
Anas Tadini

Uproar on table one was caused by Anas Tadini, who jumped off his chair when getting into a raising war with table neighbor Pieyre Maggi. It was Tadini at risk for massive 178,700 and it was a big flip once again for the Moroccan:

Tadini: {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds}
Maggi: {Q-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}

The flop {K-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} improved Tadini to a pair of kings and he held up thanks to the {7-Clubs} turn and {7-Hearts} river to double into the lead.

Herzali's Stack Melted

Nível 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Sarah Herzali
Sarah Herzali

Sarah Herzali raised and Jerome Sgorrano three-bet to 6,000 from one seat over. Albert Saad called and then Herzali moved all in for 24,400. Sgorrano showed Herzali one card and Saad wasn't too happy about that, calling the floor.

Ultimately, Sgorrano folded and the {3-Spades} was exposed. Herzali was all in with the {3-Hearts}{3-Clubs} and Saad made the call with {6-Hearts}{7-Hearts} ... . The board ran out {Q-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{A-Hearts} and the straight won the pot for Saad. Sgorrano added a "nice hand my friend" just for the sake of it.

Franco Busts Pecheux

Nível 9 : 400/800, 100 ante
Erwann Pecheux
Erwann Pecheux

"I haven't had quads in seven months and now I have busted three players with quads here." Those were the words of Sonny Franco, who just sent table neighbor Erwann Pecheux to the rail. It turns out that Franco had raised to 1,900 from under the gun and picked up one caller. Pecheux then made it 6,000 from the big blind and Franco called with pocket fours.

On the {10-}{8-}{4-} flop with two diamonds, Pecheux checked as did Franco. On the {4-} turn, Pecheux check-called a bet worth 9,500 and then check-called all in for around 28,000 with pocket aces on the {6-Spades} river to see the bad news.

Oulmekki New Chip Leader

Nível 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Selim Oulmekki
Selim Oulmekki

It was Selim Oulmekki who busted Rebecca Gerin not long ago and increased his stack nicely. The Frenchman flopped a set of kings on {K-}{7-}{6-Clubs} and Gerin then check-raised all in for just under average stack on the {10-Spades} turn with {Q-Clubs}{J-Clubs} for a huge draw. However, the river blanked and that sent Gerin to the rail.

Tadini and Darcourt Out!

Nível 2 : 75/150, 0 ante
Anas Tadini
Anas Tadini

Anas Tadini got his stack in after a three-way flop of {6-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{2-Spades} when facing a bet of 2,400 and a call. Tadini's shove was for massive 24,500 and the third player in the hand folded whereas Abdenbi Abida called with {A-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}. Tadini held {6-Hearts}{5-Spades} for top pair and a straight draw, however the {7-Hearts} turn and {A-Hearts} river bricked.

"I'll be back", he said when standing up. On the way back to the tournament area he walked into Guillaume Darcourt and the Frenchman was also eliminated. Darcourt said he had three-bet big preflop with {Q-}{J-} and then got it in with a flop of {10-}{8-}{5-} for a gutshot only to see his opponent turn over {10-}{8-} for top two.
