Georgios Zisimopoulos Leads at the End of Day 1b

A huge field of over 440 players descended into rainy London this Monday as the Day 1b field was almost double the size of the first start. This means that even before the final number of players has been tallied, this is the biggest EPT London Main Event since 2011, although it has also been helped by the reduction of the buy-in from £5,000 to £4,000 in an effort to keep parity with the other EPTs.

At the end of eight 75-minute levels, Georgios Zisimopoulos finished the day as the chip leader with 171,500 in chips, ahead of Leo Nordin (169,100) and Nicolas Chouity (152,700). The Greek player made a late charge at the end of the day to eclipse Nordin, with the latter having been chip leader for most of the day after knocking a player out within 10 minutes of the start of play.

Yesterday saw every single member of Team PokerStars Pro that played make it through into Day 2, and the hope had been that many more would be joining them through today. In fact, for the second consecutive day every Team Pro made it into Day 2.

Former EPT Sanremo champion Liv Boeree finished with 102,400 after winning a huge four-bet pot early on. The only two-time EPT winner Victoria Coren Mitchell (115,000) also had a profitable day, winning several pots against the talented Ole Schemion. This allowed her to breeze through the later levels without much difficulty. Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier (147,900) and Theo Jorgensen (87,800) also made it through.

PokerStars Team Online saw Vicente Delgado fall, but both Marc-Andre Ladouceur (80,300), Mickey Petersen (83,100), and Mikhail Shalamov (14,300) advanced, while PokerStars' Mind Sport Ambassador, Jennifer Shahade (67,300), also reached Day 2.

Other notables surviving included former champions Fredrik Jensen and Davidi Kitai, while last year's champion Robin Ylitalo made it through with 22,200 after entering the tournament in Level 6. Also through was Leo McClean, last year's Cinderella story. The Englishman had qualified for just £82, which he turned into a cool quarter of a million pounds after he finished third on the final table. He ended Day 1b this year on 48,500, and will be no doubt hoping for a repeat performance.

Not everyone faired quite so well. Olivier Busquet, who won the £2,000 UKIPT High Roller last night for £107,000, busted just after the dinner break in the EPT London Main Event, but he will be eyeing up the £10,000 High Roller that starts on Thursday. Others who failed to make it included Dave “Devilfish” Ulliott, David Peters, Ludovic Geilich, Griffin Benger, Philipp Gruissem, Bryn Kenney, Tom Middleton, and Martin Finger.

On Tuesday, all surviving players will return at midday as this tournament continues with six 75-minute levels. No dinner break is expected, so be sure to join the PokerNews Live Reporting team for continued, nonstop coverage as EPT London continues on towards a champion.

Grospellier Bags A Big One

Nível 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier
Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier

Pizzo Romano had a big stack when he was at Sam Trickett’s table. He just moved to Bertrand Grospellier’s table and his fortunes have taken a distinct turn for the worse.

Romano opened the action and Grospellier made the call to see a heads up flop of {4-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{7-Spades}. checked but when Romano bet 4,000 he check-raised him to 11,000. Perhaps feeling he was being pushed around Romano raised him right back to 25,000. Grospellier then made it 45,000 and Romano said, “How can I fold this? I just sat down for God’s sake.” and called.

The turn card was the {8-Diamonds} and when Grospellier moved all in for his last 23,000 Romano said, “Ok.” And folded giving Grospellier a big pot.

More For Zisimopoulos

Nível 8 : 300/600, 75 ante

Georgios Zisimopoulos raised in early position and he was three-bet to 2,800 by the player in the hijack. Steven Lewzey four-bet from the button to 5,200 and both blinds folded quickly. Zisimopoulos tanked for a bit before making it 9,225 and the three-bettor tanked for two minutes before folding.

Lewzey made the call but folded when Zisimopoulos bet 5,100 on the {2-Spades}{2-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} flop.

Lovgren Faces Down Colman

Nível 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Sofia Lövgren
Sofia Lövgren

Sofia Lovgren opened the action for 1,300 and Daniel Colman three-bet to 4,000. Lovgren wasn’t backing down and cut out some raising chips making it 9,800. Coleman wasn’t going anywhere and elected to call.

The flop was {4-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{2-Clubs} and both players checked. The turn card {3-Hearts} saw Lovgren have a stab for 6,800 but Colman made the call.

The river was the {8-Spades} and when they both checked Colman showed {a-Spades}{k-Clubs} and Lovgren the {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} and they shared the spoils.

Unfortunate Blind Battle For Senter

Nível 8 : 300/600, 75 ante

After a raising war before the flop we just watched an all-in showdown between Paul Senter and Stefano Terziani that went as following.

Senter: {J-Spades}{J-Clubs}
Terziani: {K-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}

The board ran out {10-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{4-Hearts} and Terziani's kings held up to give him a nice double up in the final level of play.

It's Colman's World

Nível 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Daniel Colman
Daniel Colman

When Daniel Colman entered this tournament everyone else asked if they could get their money back, because we all know the heater the Big One for One Drop winner has been on lately!

In all honesty, nobody asked for their money back as poker players don't shy away from a little tough competition, but it is a fact that Colman made a splash right away here on Day 1b.

We just picked up the action when the board read {4-Clubs}{A-Clubs}{5-Spades}{7-Spades} when Colman called a raise from Pratik Ghatge who made it 4,600. Colman had already invested an unknown amount on the turn and he called the raise rather quickly.

The river was the {K-Clubs} and Ghatge bet 7,500 after which Colman tanked for quite a bit. Eventually the man who won no less than $22 million this year made the call and Ghatge showed {Q-Spades}{3-Spades}, which was no good against {A-Hearts}{10-Spades}.

Colman raked in the pot and sits on around 44,000 chips.

“Mr Greedy”

Nível 8 : 300/600, 75 ante

Pizzo Romano is an older gentleman from the UK but with a strong Italian accent. For most of the day he has been gathering chips in tournament room B, bamboozling players and chatting away. He is now in the main room sat to Trickett’s right and is continuing the stream of commentary.

Romano opened from early position for 2,500 which was an unusually large raise by the table norms. It folded round to the player on the button who called prompting Romano to begin, “There is always a Mr Greedy.” Looking at Romano’s big stack another player called for a mirror before Romano announcing he was checking in the dark.

The flop was {9-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{2-Spades} and the player on the button bet 3,500. Romano made as if to fold before asking how may chips his opponent hand and raising to 10,000. His opponent threw his hand away and Romano showed {a-Spades}{8-Spades} chiding him for being at it.

On the next hand Romano limped from under the gun with {q-}{10-} and induced a two street bluff from another opponent on a queen high board. Whatever Romano is doing today it sure is working out so far.
