Ponakovs Tries to Slowroll Chaoui, Loses Anyway; Mokri Takes Out Zubov

Mehdi Chaoui moved all in for 62,000 in early position and Aleksejs Ponakovs asked for a count before calling in the big blind.

"I was slowrolling. I deserve it," Ponakovs said upon seeing Chaoui's aces. The board ran out Q♠9♦6♥6♠K♥ and Chaoui doubled up.

"Are we slowrolling? Because I want in on this game," Kayhan Mokri added.

Mokri then raised to 25,000 in the hijack and Alexander Zubov called in the big blind.

The flop came A♦10♥8♠ and Mokri bet 12,000. Zubov raised to 25,000, Mokri reraised to 38,000, and Zubov clicked back to 55,000. Mokri then moved all in.

"Am I getting slowrolled by ten-eight? This is the most obvious slowroll of all time," Mokri said as Zubov took a minute before calling for his last 60,000.

Mokri was ahead with his pair of aces against Zubov's tens, and Zubov couldn't catch up on the 4♠ turn or 5♣ river,, and he was sent to the rail.

Ladev Wins a Four-Bet Pot Versus Nashar

Biao Ding raised to 25,000 from the cutoff and Hassan Nashar three-bet to 100,000 from the button. Markkos Ladev then four-bet to 175,000 from the small blind, which only Nashar called.

Ladev bet 50,000 on the 4♠A♥3♥ flop and Nashar called.

Both players checked the 10♥ turn and 6♠ river. Ladev took down the pot with A♣Q♠ for top pair, as Nashar flashed 7x7x.

On the first hand back from dinner, Mehdi Chaoui moved all in for 44,000 from under the gun and action folded around to Alexander Zubov. He began rubbing his cards as he took a peek. "Not too much. Let's look together," Chaoui said. Zubov then called to put him at risk.

The 7♣4♥2♣ flop gave both players a pair, but Chaoui remained ahead with his sevens as the A♦ turn improved him to two pair. The dealer hesitated before turning over the 6♦ river and Chaoui doubled up. "You scared me," Chaoui said as he took the pot.

Life Outside Poker is a new podcast for PokerNews hosted by Connor Richards that seeks to pull back the curtain on poker players and allow viewers and listeners to get to know them on a personal level.

In the 18th episode, Connor speaks with author and psychologist Maria Konnikova about her family leaving Russia to come to the US, writing her first story in kindergarten, being mentored by Steven Pinker at Harvard, meeting Erik Seidel for the first time and her 2020 bestseller The Biggest Bluff that explored her poker journey.

Konnikova, a PokerStars ambassador, also talked about her research for an upcoming book into cheating in poker and other games, as well as game integrity rule changes implemented at EPT Barcelona that Konnikova said needed to go even further.

"I think what PokerStars has done is amazing. I think you need to go a step further and not have any electronics anywhere on the table," said Konnikova. "Like, I think phones need to be on the floor, in your bag."

"I would actually also ban sunglasses because ... there's so much technology that (that can enable cheating)."

Mokri checked to Zubov on the 10♥8♠7♠ and he bet 35,000. Mokri then moved all in and Zubov, with around 115,000 remaining, quickly folded.

Dimov check-called a bet of 17,000 from Moene on the 7♠2♥4♠ flop.

Both players checked the Q♣ turn for the 2♣ to come on the river. Dimov bet 15,000 and was met by a raise to 68,000 from Moene. Dimov paused for a few moments before three-betting to 130,000. This prompted a quick fold from Moene, and Dimov pulled in the pot.
