First of Three Flights in €1,100 FPS Paris Main Event Kicks Off at Noon

Eiffel Tower - EPT Paris
Eiffel Tower - EPT Paris

The 2023 PokerStars European Poker Tour Paris festival got underway last night at the Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile and continues today with Day 1a of the €1,100 FPS Paris Main Event at noon local time.

The France Poker Series should attract a sizable field as the event features three starting flights, including one that gets underway later this evening at 7 p.m. The field may include some big names, including those who weren't fortunate enough to advance in $10,200 Mystery Bounty, such as Steve O'Dwyer, Erik Seidel and PokerStars Team Pro Andre Akkari.

In exchange for their €1,100 buy-in, players will receive a starting stack of 30,000 chips with blinds starting off at 100/100/100 and 40-minute levels. Day 1 flights are scheduled to play 14 levels and approximately 15% of the total field will be paid.

Players will be given 20-minute breaks every three levels and there is a 75-minute dinner break scheduled to take place after Level 9.

Per French regulations, players are allowed to reenter once per flight for up to four entries. Registration will close after Level 10.

The surviving players from the three starting flights will return for Day 2 on Feb. 18 at noon, and the event is scheduled to play two more days before a winner is crowned on Day 4 on Feb. 20.

The PokerNews live reporting team is on-site here in France, so be sure to follow along to keep up with the EPT Paris action.

Hasson Fills Up to Eliminate Dijkkamp

Nível 2 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante
Ori Hasson
Ori Hasson

In a five-way pot on a flop of {8-Spades}{6-Spades}{7-Clubs}, action checked to Ori Hasson in early position and he bet 2,700. It folded around to Lennart Dijkkamp in the small blind, who raised to 8,500 after checking dark on the flop.

Hasson re-raised and all the chips got in the middle with Dijkkamp being the at-risk player.

Lennart Dijkkamp: {10-Hearts}{9-Hearts}
Ori Hasson: {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}

It was an early cooler as Hasson had flopped top set only to be far behind the nut straight of Dijkkamp. The {4-Clubs} turn didn't change anything, but the {7-Diamonds} river paired the board to give Hasson a full house and Dijkkamp made his early exit.

"I kind of think this is what you had, maybe sevens," Hasson said as Dijkkamp wished him good luck.

Vedral Slow Plays Aces and Doubles

Nível 3 : Blinds 100/300, 300 ante
David Vedral
David Vedral

Quentin Roussey raised from late position and was called by David Vedral from the cutoff.

Roussey put in a continuation bet on the {a-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} flop and snap-called as the bigger stack after Vedral jammed for 24,700.

David Vedral: {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}
Quentin Roussey: {a-Spades}{j-Spades}

Roussey had flopped top two pair but was way behind the slow-played aces of Vedral, who had flopped a set. The {j-Diamonds} turn gave Roussey a one-outer to quads but the {8-} river completed the board for Vedral to remain best.

Jonas Lauck
Jonas Lauck

Hubert Bokobza opened to 1,000 from middle position and was called by Jonas Lauck and Francky Magliocco from the button and big blind respectively.

The {k-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{8-Spades} flop checked through to the {j-Hearts} turn and action checked to Lauck. He bet 1,500 and only Bokobza called.

Bokobza checked once more on the {2-Clubs} river and Lauck sized up to 5,500. After going into the tank for around two minutes, Bokobza called.

Lauck rolled over his {a-Clubs}{j-Spades} for trips and his opponent mucked.

David Kaye "Blown Away" by Impact of PokerStars US Player Pool Merging

Nível 4 : Blinds 200/400, 400 ante
David Kaye
David Kaye

American David Kaye spoke with PokerNews about his journey from a small-town Michigan poker player to becoming a poker player and PokerStars ambassador.

He also gave insight into the current poker scene in Michigan, and the potential of online poker in the state.
“We know the end goal isn't just two states,” he said. “Two states is great, but this is just the groundwork to get where we really want to be when we have all the states under one umbrella — or as many states as possible.”

Find out what Kaye had to say about the bright future of PokerStars US here!

Stand Up Trick Pays Off for Roussey at Wheeler's Expense

Nível 4 : Blinds 200/400, 400 ante
Quentin Roussey
Quentin Roussey

The short-stacked Quentin Roussey opened to 900 from the button before Jason Wheeler three-bet to 2,400 from the small blind. Roussey called.

On the {q-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} flop, Wheeler continued for 1,600 and called after Roussey moved all in for 9,100.

Quentin Roussey: {q-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}
Jason Wheeler: {a-Diamonds}{a-Spades}

Roussey had flopped top pair but was behind Wheeler's pocket aces. The Frenchman immediately stood out of his seat and started putting on his coat while collecting his belongings.

The {k-Spades} turn kept Wheeler ahead but Roussey rivered two pair after the {9-Hearts} completed the board. He was unaware that he had the best hand until his tablemates pointed out that he had the winner.

Kassouf Doubles Through Fhima; Clement Finishes Fhima Off

Nível 7 : Blinds 400/800, 800 ante
William Kassouf
William Kassouf

Jonathan Fhima opened from late position before William Kassouf jammed for 9,200 from the big blind. Fhima called.

William Kassouf: {a-}{q-}
Jonathan Fhima: {a-}{10-}

Neither player connected on the {8-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{j-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{7-Clubs} runout which meant Kassouf's superior ace was enough for the Englishman to get a double up.

Two hands later, Fhima moved in his short stack of 8,000 before Roger Clement rejammed as the bigger stack from the cutoff.

Jonathan Fhima: {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}
Roger Clement: {k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}

Fhima was unable to find an ace on the {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{3-Hearts} flop but then had outs to Broadway following the {q-Clubs} turn. The {9-Spades} completed the board and confirmed Fhima's elimination.

Kicker Problems for Kalev

Nível 8 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Petar Kalev
Petar Kalev

There was around 50,000 in the pot on the {k-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{4-Spades} completed board. David Hareuveni, in the small blind, was up against Petar Kalev who was in the cutoff.

Hareuveni jammed for 22,300 and Kalev went into the tank. The Bulgarian, who finished in eighth place for $621,300 at the 2023 PSPC, was the slight shorter stack and he called for his tournament life.

Hareuveni thought he was beaten as he tabled his {k-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}. However, he had his opponent pipped as Kalev had {k-}{j-}.

Hareuveni's kicker played and he scooped in the sizeable pot.
