Day 2 of the $1,100 buy-in Eureka Main Event has wrapped up more than 10 levels of play as at the first-ever PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT) Cyprus stop with India's Ankit Ahuja bagging the chip lead with 10,105,000 over fellow big stacks Ali Al-Kubasi (8,125,000), Eduard Norel (6,470,000) and Luka Bojovic (4,710,000).

Only 31 players made it to the end of Day 2, less than a tenth of the number that started the day. Among those who found bags were Dutchman Tom Vogelsang, American Javier Rodriguez and Romanian Iulian-Remus Blebea.

Ahuja, who sits fourth on India's all-time money list, is no stranger to tournament success with over $1.8 million in live earnings as he chases the $362,365 up top for the eventual winner.

Day 2 Action

There were 399 players who returned for action on Day 2 and, with all of them already in the money, it didn't take long for that number to drop drastically.

One of the early eliminations was Sahab Saberikakhki, who doubled up Nikolaos Lampropoulos when his king-jack was pipped by Big Slick before losing a flip with ten-eight suited against the pocket fives of Michele D'Angelo.

Other players who fell in the early hours of Day 2 include Kenny Hallaert, Tom Middleton, Francisco Benitez and Jessica Teusl.

EPT darling and high-stakes crusher Steve O'Dwyer was contending for the chip lead as Level 20 rolled around, but the Ireland transplant's luck ran out as his top pair with king-jack was no good against the overpair of Mihaita Croitoru with Cowboys.

EPT Main Event champions Ian Hamilton and Simon Wiciak were seated side-by-side for part of the day, but things took a turn for the worse for Wiciak, who just weeks ago took down the EPT Barcelona Main Event, as his pocket kings were far out-flopped but the ace-queen of David Kaufmann. Hamilton, meanwhile, fell later in the evening in 34th place for $6,800.

Simon Wiciak

Some of the other players who weren't fortunate enough to survive the day include Daniel Smiljkovic (50th - $5,900), recent Poker Masters crusher Vladas Tamasauskas (55th - $5,900) and overall Day 1 chip leader Gaelle Baumann (60th - $5,125).

Action will pick back up on Oct. 15 at noon local time on Level 27 with blinds of 30,000/60,000/60,000 and levels lasting 60 minutes in duration. The plan is to play ten levels or down to six players, whichever comes first.

Don't go far as the PokerNews live reporting team will be back tomorrow as the Eureka Main Event draws closer to crowning a winner here on the North Cyprus coast.

Tom Vogelsang raised to 100,000 in the cutoff and Ian Hamilton defended his big blind.

The flop came 1094 and Vogelsang continued for 75,000. Hamilton called and the 4 fell on the turn.

Vogelsang then bet another 225,000 and Hamilton again called. The river came the 8 and Hamilton checked over to Vogelsang.

Vogelsang then collected nearly his entire stack and slid it forward, a bet of 650,000 as he left just 50,000 behind. Hamilton tanked for more than a minute before tossing in a chip to signify a call.

Vogelsang turned over AA and Hamilton mucked as he paid him off.

Rayhaan Fills Up on Vavilonskii; Norel Bombs the River on Ahuja

Nível 26 : Blinds 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante
Adam Rayhaan
Adam Rayhaan

Adam Rayhaan raised to 125,000 on the button and Andrei Vavilonskii called in the big blind.

The flop came K98 and Rayhaan continued for 125,000. Vavilonskii called to the 8 turn, where Rayhaan bet another 100,000.

Vavilonskii then raised to 275,000 and Rayhaan called. The river came the A and Vavilonskii led out for 150,000.

Rayhaan spent a few minutes in the tank before emerging with a raise to 500,000. Vavilonskii gave it some thought before calling as Rayhaan turned over 98 for a full house to win the pot.

While this hand was in progress, Eduard Norel and Ankit Ahuja were building a pot of around 2,000,000 on a completed board of 56Q107.

Norel then slid forward a bet of 1,550,000 and Ahuja went deep into the tank. "Sorry guys. I'm very close," Ahuja said as more than five minutes came off the clock.

"Take as much time as you want," tablemate Michele Guerrini told him. Ahuja eventually tossed his cards away and Norel took down the big pot without a showdown.

Ankit Ahuja

Andreas Christoforou moved all in for 325,000 in the hijack and Ankit Ahuja called in the small blind. Ivan Tukmachev then reshoved for 1,600,000 in the big blind and Ahuja called once more.

Andreas Christoforou: 65
Ivan Tukmachev: A9
Ankit Ahuja: AQ

Ahuja was in the lead heading to the flop, which came 29A and gave Tukmachev two pair. The 3 fell on the turn, but the river was the 8 and Ahuja improved to a flush to send both players to the rail.

"Now you can sleep, come back and play the final table tomorrow," a tablemate joked with Ahuja, who moved over 6,000,000 with that pot.

Gabriel Eduard

A pot of around 700,000 was already in the middle as Nils Pudel and Eduard Norel went heads-up to the turn on a board of 61025.

Pudel then moved all in for 740,000 in the hijack and Norel asked for a count before calling. He showed J10 for top pair, but Pudel had JJ.

The river brought the 10 to give Norel trips and he picked up his ten and gave it a kiss as Pudel was sent to the rail.

Jacks Work For Bojovic, But Not For Nazarian

Nível 25 : Blinds 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante
Ali Al Kubasi
Ali Al Kubasi

Mauricio Salazar Sanchez raised to 85,000 on the button before Luka Bojovic moved all in for 1,175,000 in the small blind. Salazar Sanchez tanked for several minutes before calling.

Luka Bojovic: JJ
Mauricio Salazar Sanchez: AJ

The 5738Q board brought no relief to Salazar Sanchez and he handed over the double up to Bojovic. Salazar Sanchez was left with around 100,000 and was eliminated the next hand.

At the same time on another table, Ali Al-Kubasi had raised to 100,000 on the button, then called when Karen Nazarian moved all in for 1,390,000 in the small blind.

Karen Nazarian: JJ
Ali Al-Kubasi: AK

It was Nazarian's turn to hope his jacks held on to double up, but he wouldn't have as much luck as the board came 7KQ2Q, giving Al-Kubasi two pair and the knockout.

Ian Hamilton

Sergei Bagirov raised to 175,000 from the button, leaving himself just 30,000 behind, and Ian Hamilton called in the big blind.

Hamilton thought Bagirov was all in and turned over AJ. The flop came 622 and he then put Bagirov all in.

Bagirov tanked for several minutes until the clock was called. Just as the floor reached zero Bagirov put in his last chips with A10.

The 6 turn left both players headed toward a chopped pot until the 4 river improved Hamilton to a flush and sent Bagirov to the rail.

Daniel Smiljkovic

Chip leader Adam Rayhaan opened to 85,000 in the cutoff and folded as Javier Rodriguez three-bet jammed a stack of 545,000 from the big blind.

The very next hand, Rayhaan opened to 95,000 and Daniel Smiljkovic called on the button before Rodriguez again three-bet jammed. Rayhaan called and Smiljkovic then back-jammed a stack of around 1,000,000 as Rayhaan called to put both opponents at risk.

Javier Rodriguez: QQ
Daniel Smiljkovic: 99
Adam Rayhaan: 77

It was a battle of the pocket pairs and Rodriguez had the best of it as the board ran out 103KA6 to earn him a triple as a small side pot went to Smiljkovic.

Gabriel Eduard

Alessio Isaia bet 210,000 from the button on a board of 7K3A and Eduard Norel called in the small blind.

The river came the 2 and Isaia moved all in for around 600,000. Norel snap-called and Isaia showed AJ. Norel, though, had A2 for two pair on the river as Isaia shot out of his seat and slammed a nearby table, muttering to himself as he headed for the rail.

At the same time, Alexandr Dusco was all in for 300,000 and up against Andrei Vavilonskii.

Alexandr Dusco: 88
Andrei Vavilonskii: AQ

Vavilonskii wasted no time taking the lead on the A9Q flop, then improved to a full house by the river on KA to send the Day 1a chip leader to the rail.

Start-of-day chip leader Gaelle Baumann also recently headed for the payout desk.
