Nível 17 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

The PokerStars Estrellas Poker Tour (ESPT) at Casino Barcelona continued today with another impressive Day 1 flight; 961 new entries amassed over the 12 hours of play; up 608 entries from the Day 1a flight yesterday. At the end of the night, 144 players bagged and tagged and will be returning for Day 2 after the completion of the other five starting fights in the coming days.

As the dust settled Theodoros Ampelikiotis bagged the overall chip lead, taking through 772,000 for the Day 2 restart. Ampelikiotis wasn't alone in amassing a plentiful stack as bothJose Rodriguez Zurita and Jeremie Zouari were hot on his tails accumulating 610,000 and 606,000 chips respectively.

Day 1c welcomed many familiar faces, including PokerStars Team Pro members Fintan Hand and Benjamin Spragg who tried their luck at their first tournament of the stop.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be as Hand made his exit on Level 12 at the hands of Belmehel Dja Daouadji. Spragg also failed to materialize a stack for Day 2, however, a reappearance from both popular Twitch streamers is highly likely in the coming flights.

Florian Duta was also set to make a deep run but was eliminated in brutal fashion late into the day. More notable names to hit the rail included Alex Keating and Dara O'Kearney who are both still vying for their first cash on Spanish soil this year.

Those cashing in this event and moving onto Day 2 include Martin Jacobson (103,000), Aliaksandr Shylko (99,000), Uri Reichenstein (213,000), Jack Salter (410,000) and Alexandre Reard (75,000); no strangers to tournament success, each will have their eye on an early win in Barcelona.

Day 2 will kick off on the 25th of August, but before then, players have plenty more opportunities to get into the mix, with flights 1e, 1f, 1g, and 1h all happening within the next two days.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be back tomorrow to bring you more coverage of the Estrellas Poker Tour Main Event here at EPT Barcelona, so stay tuned.

On the latest PokerNews Podcast, Chad Holloway and Connor Richards welcome Matt Hansen as a new co-host of the show. Matt has been doing a lot of work behind the scenes for PokerNews, and now we're putting a microphone in front of him to draw on his deep knowledge of the industry and get some of his hot takes.

That included his thoughts on the WSOP Paradise schedule, a poker player's yacht burning in the Mediterranean, and Ben Mintz returning to BarStool after Dave Portnoy bought back the company.

Chad then chats with this week's guest, Lukas "RobinPoker" Robinson, the new PokerNews Online Poker Ambassador. He talks about playing 1,000 hours of poker in 100 days, playing the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event alongside his father, and how listeners can have a chance at a $10,000 seat in December's World Poker Tour (WPT) World Championship at Wynn thanks to a special promotion in conjunction with WPT Global.

Oliveira Among Chip Leaders After Massive Cooler

Nível 13 : Blinds 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante

With the board reading J76 and over 200,000 chips already in the middle, Michael Mitrione found himself all in and at risk against Wender Cezar Oliveira.

Michael Mitrione: 89

Oliveira had flopped top set for the nuts but Mitrione had a massive draw, having both a flush draw and open-ended straight draw. Despite having the nuts Oliveira was close to flipping for the biggest pot of the tournament so far.

The board ran out 2K. Oliveira faded Mitrione's plethora of outs to send him to the rail and take down what was potentially the biggest pot of the tournament so far.

Salter Wins Round Two Versus Reard

Nível 11 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Jack Salter
Jack Salter

With players heads up on a board reading J54 and around 10,000 already in the middle, Jack Salter check-called a 6,000 bet from Alexandre Reard.

The turn came the 3. Salter checked, Reard bet 17,000 and Salter put in a check-raise to 41,000. Reard made the call.

The river came the J. After about one minute of thought, Salter pushed forward a stack of green 5,000 chips, enough to put Reard all in for his remaining stack of approximately 90,000.

Reard, who had forced a fold from Salter in another big pot during the previous level, was clearly faced with a difficult decision. After just over two minutes, he folded A2 face up and Salter took down a sizable pot from the French pro.

"It was a good fold," Salter told his opponent as he dragged the pot.
