Baumann Bows Out

Nível 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Gaelle Baumann
Gaelle Baumann

Over at the featured table, Morten Hvam opened to 17,000 from under the gun and Gaelle Baumann defended the big blind.

The dealer spread the {k-Spades}{8-Spades}{6-Clubs} flop and Baumann check-raised a bet of 13,000 up to 36,000. Hvam then raised enough chips to cover Baumann, and Baumann called for her 118,000.

Gaelle Baumann: {k-Clubs}{9-Spades}
Morten Hvam: {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}

Baumann needed to improve with her inferior kicker, but the {10-Hearts} and {a-Clubs} completed the board to send her to the rail.

Simoes Leads the Pack; Grieco Busts Zerbib

Nível 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Nicola Grieco
Nicola Grieco

There was a ton of action over on table one and it resulted in two eliminations.

First up, it was Marcelo Simoes who raised to 18,000 on the button and Julien Veyssiere three-bet to 59,000 in the small blind. Simoes then four-bet jammed for 380,000 effective and Veyssiere studied the tournament clock to see if there was a pay jump or not before calling it off.

Julien Veyssiere: {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}
Marcelo Simoes: {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}

The {a-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{3-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} board knocked out Veyssiere as Simoes leaped into the lead by some margin.

Soon after, Nicola Grieco raised the button and Jerome Zerbib defended the big blind. They got it in after a {a-Spades}{8-Clubs}{6-Clubs} flop via check-raise to 100,000, push and call with Zerbib at risk for around 285,000.

Jerome Zerbib: {q-Clubs}{4-Clubs}
Nicola Grieco: {a-Clubs}{j-Spades}

The {7-Hearts} turn and {a-Hearts} river let Grieco celebrated and he then pointed to the ace of clubs and said "this was important" as he held the nut flush blocker. Both stacks were counted and Grieco had the covering stack to score the knockout.

Loosli Loses it All

Nível 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Sylvain Loosli
Sylvain Loosli

With roughly 200,000 in the pot on a {q-Clubs}{3-Spades}{3-Clubs}{8-Spades}{8-Hearts} completed board, Sylvain Loosli was in the big blind and facing a decision for his tournament life against Nikolai Tulin in the hijack. Loosli had approximately 105,000 behind and after using multiple time extensions, put in the chips.

Tulin tabled {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}, while Loosli could only flip over {q-Spades}{j-Diamonds} as he made his exit from the tournament.

Mattern Ousted by Cardot

Nível 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Arnaud Mattern
Arnaud Mattern

Over on the featured tabled, Arnaud Mattern shoved for 77,000 from the cutoff and Yannick Cardot called on the button.

Arnaud Mattern: {k-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}
Yannick Cardot: {a-Hearts}{10-Hearts}

The {q-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} flop gave Mattern a flush draw, but the {3-Hearts} and {q-Hearts} completed the board to give Cardot a flush instead, and the 2007 EPT Prague Main Event winner was eliminated.

Lucien Cohen was eliminated on a different table and that left just one former champion still in the mix.

Chaoui Eliminated by Sebban

Nível 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Mehdi Chaoui
Mehdi Chaoui

In a battle of players who often duel each other in Paris, Mehdi Chaoui opted to limp-shove in a battle of the blinds. His push for around 185,000 was snapped off by Ariel Sebban in the big blind and the timing for the move by Chaoui came at an unfortunate moment.

Mehdi Chaoui: {k-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}
Ariel Sebban: {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}

The {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} flop provided the flush draw for Chaoui but the {2-Spades} turn and {6-Clubs} river were both blanks.

Yaghmai Above a Million

Nível 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Nariman Yaghmai
Nariman Yaghmai

On a completed board of {8-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}, Franz Bracher checked his option with around 175,000 behind. Nariman Yaghmai then pushed all-in with the far superior stack on the button and that sent his opponent in the tank. Bracher used three time banks and eventually declared the call.

Yaghmai rolled over the {a-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} for the runner runner nut flush and that beat the {a-Spades}{k-Clubs} of the Swiss. The same table then lost Tomasso Briotti soon after as the early carnage continued.

More casualties shortly after included Huy Pham, Dylan Lambert and Alexandros Kolonias.

Welcome to Day 3 of the 2022 PokerStars EPT Monte Carlo €5,300 Main Event

Fabien Motte and Ramon Colillas are among the big stacks
Fabien Motte and Ramon Colillas are among the big stacks

Out of a field of 1,073 entries, only 85 players remain in contention for the second-biggest ever EPT Monte Carlo €5,300 Main Event in history. The strong turnout showcases a fabulous return for the PokerStars European Poker Tour presented by Monte-Carlo Casino and all those still in the mix will be competing for the lion's share of the €5,204,050 prize pool within the next three days at Le Sporting Monte-Carlo on the French Riviera.

Three former EPT Main Event champions aim to become the third player to earn a second title of the popular live poker tour and Scottish poker pro Niall Farrell is one of them. He leads the pack with a stack of 1,175,000 while fellow former winners Arnaud Mattern (250,000) and Lucien Cohen (150,000) will aim to keep the title on home soil.

Ferenc Deak (1,137,000) and German wizard Ole Schemion (1,046,000) and the only other contenders with a seven-figure stack but plenty of familiar names follow not far behind including Javier Gomez Zapatero (866,000), Vlado Banicevic (725,000), Shyngis Satubayev (690,000), Claudio Di Giacomo (587,000), and Jussi Nevanlinna (536,000).

The only PokerStars ambassador still in contention is the 2019 PSPC champion Ramon Colillas and he sits in seventh place with a stack of 796,000. Benjamin Spragg and Rafael Moraes also cashed in the event but were sent to the payout desk before Day 2 concluded last night.

Three women are aiming for the EPT Main Event title and return for Day 3 as well: Gaelle Baumann (464,000), Ana Marquez (442,000) and Sofia Lovgren (244,000). They will be back at noon local time when the action resumes with 45 minutes remaining in level 17 at blinds of 3,000-6,000 and a big blind ante of 6,000.

As of Day 3 and until the conclusion of the tournament, a 30-second shot clock will be in play to give players as much time to act on every street from now on. If they shall require more time to consider the options, they have five 30-second time bank extensions available. Those will be added every day from now on and it's up to the players to use them wisely.

The schedule for Day 3 includes another six and a half levels of 90 minutes each and should whittle down the field to the final three tables and beyond. Besides the exclusive PokerNews live updates, the live stream feature table will be available on a delay of 30 minutes on the PokerStars YouTube and Twitch channels.

Stay tuned to find out who makes it one step further on the French Riviera as a winner will be crowned in the Salle des Etoiles on Saturday, May 7, 2022.
