Day 1 of €25,000 No-Limit Hold'em at the 2022 PokerStars and Barcelona©Casino European Poker Tour wrapped up early Thursday morning with nine players remaining and Poker Hall of Famer Erik Seidel bagging the chip lead after doubling up in the last hand of the day.

Seidel, who will enter Day 2 with a stack of 522,000 good for 52 big blinds, will be joined by fellow big stacks Paul Phua (438,000), Francisco Benitez (324,000) and Pedro Garagnani (297,000). Close behind are Russia's Artur Martirosian (242,000) and Spain's Adrian Mateos (144,000), who is looking to nab his latest high roller title as he holds the home-court advantage.

The nine-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner Seidel was close to busting at the end of Day 1 when he raised all in with a flush draw and was called by Jean-Noel Thorel with a set. Seidel made his flush to take the eleventh-hour chip lead and leave the Frenchman as the shortest stack (127,000).

The high roller event attracted 50 unique entrants and generated a prize pool of €1,200,500 with only seven spots getting paid, meaning the money bubble has yet to burst.

Many of poker's best and most decorated were in the Day 1 field, including Britain's Stephen Chidwick, who bowed out on the final table bubble when he couldn't win a flip with pocket deuces against the jack-nine of Martirosian.

Chidwick had the chip lead earlier in the day when fellow high stakes titan Michael Addamo ran a king-high bluff at the wrong time as Chidwick had picked up aces. The Australian survived the dinner break with a single chip after the hand and was eliminated on his third and final bullet upon returning.

Chidwick put a beat on another Aussie, Kahle Burns, earlier in the day when he flopped two pair against Burns' Cowboys.

Other players who failed to survive the day include Patrik Antonius, Steve O'Dwyer, Mike Watson, Daniel Dvoress, Mikita Badziakouski, Ben Heath and 2020 WSOP Main Event Champion Damian Salas.

Day 2 of €25,000 No-Limit Hold'em will kick off on Thursday, Aug. 11 at 12:30 p.m. local time on Level 19 with blinds of 5,000/10,000/10,000. Day 2 will play down to a winner, who will take home the trophy and the top prize of €390,160.

All eyes will be on Seidel tomorrow as he looks to continue his hot run. Stay tuned as the PokerNews live reporting team will be back on site tomorrow to finish out coverage of €25,000 No-Limit Hold'em.

Seidel Doubles to Take Chip Lead in Final Hand of Day

Nível 18 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Erik Seidel
Erik Seidel

In one of the final hands of the day, Francisco Benitez doubled up through Artur Martirosian after shoving the river on a board of {j-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}. Martirosian called with {j-Clubs}{8-Clubs} for two pair to beat by the flush of Benitez with {a-Spades}{10-Clubs}.

The next hand, Erik Seidel was in a heads-up pot against Jean-Noel Thorel on a flop of {10-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}. Thorel bet and Seidel jammed as the effective stack, and Thorel called after a moment's thought.

Jean-Noel Thorel: {2-Spades}{2-Clubs}
Erik Seidel: {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}

"Oh man," Seidel said when he saw he was up against a set.

But Seidel's mood surely changed when the {4-Clubs} on the turn gave him a flush and the {8-Spades} on the river didn't change things for the Poker Hall of Famer to double to take the chip lead in the final hand of the day.

Stay tuned for a full recap of the day's events.

Chidwick Eliminated by Martirosian on Final Table Bubble

Nível 18 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Stephen Chidwick
Stephen Chidwick

Artur Martirosian open-jammed on the button and Stephen Chidwick contemplated a decision in the big blind without a small blind in the hand. Chidwick made the call with his effective stack of 123,000.

Stephen Chidwick: {2-Hearts}{2-Clubs}
Artur Martirosian: {j-Diamonds}{9-Spades}

A nine in the window on the flop of {3-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{9-Hearts} gave Martirosian a big lead and Chidwick couldn't improve as the board finished out {q-Spades}{8-Clubs} for the Brit to be eliminated ahead of the final table redraw in one of the last hands of the day.

"Nice hand," Chidwick told Martirosian as he left his seat.

Petrone Cracks Adams' Aces to Stay Alive

Nível 17 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Ramiro Petrone
Ramiro Petrone

Ramiro Petrone ended up getting his 110,000 chips in from the hijack and was at risk against Timothy Adams on the button.

Ramiro Petrone: {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}
Timothy Adams: {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}

The {10-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} flop kept Adams ahead, although Petrone did pick up a backdoor straight draw. The {j-Spades} turn gave him those additional outs, and the {7-Diamonds} spiked the river to improve him to a straight and keep his tournament life alive as the table reacted at the unlikely result.

Seidel Catches Lefrancois' Bluff to Double Up

Nível 16 : Blinds 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Erik Seidel
Erik Seidel

Erik Seidel opened in early position and Pascal Lefrancois three-bet from the cutoff. Seidel called.

Seidel checked on the flop of {5-Hearts}{6-Spades}{j-Diamonds} and Lefrancois continued for 17,000. Seidel called. Seidel checked again on the {9-Hearts} turn and Lefrancois sized up to 33,000. Seidel again called.

Seidel checked a third time on the {q-Clubs} river and Lefrancois unloaded the clip by moving all in with Seidel covered.

Seidel let out a sigh and asked the dealer to spread the pot as he considered calling off with his last 86,000. After using a time extension, Seidel put out a stack for a call.

Lefrancois sheepishly revealed a bluff with {a-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} for ace-high and Seidel showed {a-Spades}{j-Spades} to win the pot and double up with second pair after making the big call.

"Nice call!" commented Paul Phua to Seidel's right.

Lefrancois was left with just around 10,000 and was eliminated a few hands later.

Pardo Eliminated by Mateos in Spanish Battle

Nível 16 : Blinds 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Juan Pardo
Juan Pardo

Stephen Chidwick opened to 8,500 in early position, Adrian Mateos flat-called on the button, and Juan Pardo moved all in for 20,500 in the small blind. Chidwick called and Mateos announced "all in", causing Chidwick to muck his hand fairly quickly.

Juan Pardo: {7-Spades}{7-Diamonds}
Adrian Mateos: {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs}

It was a Spaniard versus Spaniard race in Barcelona, and the {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{6-Spades} flop vaulted Mateos ahead. The {2-Clubs} turn and {j-Clubs} river failed to provide a seven, and Pardo wished the table good luck as he made his exit.

Antonius Eliminated; Pardo Triples

Nível 14 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Patrik Antonius
Patrik Antonius

Artur Martirosian opened to 7,000 in middle position, Patrik Antonius jammed for 22,500 in the hijack, Juan Pardo moved in his 14,000 chips in the cutoff, and action folded back to Martirosian who called.

Juan Pardo: {7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}
Patrik Antonius: {a-Diamonds}{j-Spades}
Artur Martirosian: {a-Hearts}{10-Clubs}

Pardo was in good shape with the only pocket pair, and was in even better shape on the {10-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{6-Spades} flop. Antonius, however, needed to improve to stay alive, but the {9-Spades} and {4-Spades} completed the board and the premier Finnish poker player made his exit, while Pardo secured the short-stacked triple.

Addamo Left With Dust After Bluffing into Chidwick's Aces

Nível 12 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Michael Addamo
Michael Addamo

Tom-Aksel Bedell opened to 4,500 in the cutoff, Stephen Chidwick three-bet to 13,000 on the button, and Michael Addamo cold four-bet to 32,000 in the small blind. Bedell folded and Chidwick called.

The dealer spread the {10-Spades}{9-Spades}{2-Clubs} flop, Addamo led for 35,000, Chidwick called, and both players checked the {6-Spades} turn.

The {2-Hearts} completed the board and Addamo moved all in. Chidwick snap-called for his 99,000 chips and flipped over {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}. Addamo sighed in disappointment as he flashed his {k-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} and was left with a single pink T-500 chip. Chidwick, meanwhile, took the chip lead with the hand, and the remaining players went on dinner break.

Cooler and a Casualty at Table 1

Nível 12 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Tom Orpaz
Tom Orpaz

A massive cooler took place at Table 1 before the dinner break as Kitson Kho and Pedro Garagnani were both all in and at risk against Tom Orpaz, who had the two covered.

"This could be a double knockout!" Orpaz said.

Kitson Kho: {a-Spades}{k-Spades}
Pedro Garagnani: {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}
Tom Orpaz: {q-Spades}{q-Clubs}

Garagnani had the best of it and the flop of {8-Spades}{5-Spades}{4-Diamonds} didn't change things, and the {8-Diamonds} on the turn had Kho drawing dead and Orpaz rooting in vain for a queen as the {2-Clubs} peeled off on the river. Kho was eliminated as Garagnani scooped the main and side pots and Orpaz was left with a short stack.

"Dealer, you're sick!" Orpaz lamented.
