Beresford Bags Big in Day 1b €2,200 Eureka High Roller

Nível 20 : Blinds 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Conor Beresford
Conor Beresford

British poker professional Conor Beresford bagged big as he ended Day 1b of the €2,200 Eureka High Roller at the top of the chip listings here at the beautiful Hilton Prague at PokerStars European Poker Tour Prague.

It has been a record-breaking field again for this event as the €2,200 Eureka High Roller followed the example of the €1,100 Eureka Main Event in attracting more entrants than ever. The previous record was only set in March of this year but the 1,534 entries crushed that 1,149 total. This event, as a result, has managed to generate a prize pool of €2,945,280.

Beresford is seen thriving in the big fields yet again. Beresford managed four cashes at the EPT's last stop in London which included coming in second place to Sweden's Martin Jacobson in the £1,100 UKIPT Main Event for £145,120. Beresford will be hoping to go all the way this time.

Other notable players who secured a bag included Julien Martini (317,000), Mehdi Chaoui (77,000) and Jon Kyte (38,000).

Action from the day started furiously as Patrick Kallas rivered quads against Oleksandra Shenderei's flopped straight flush to be eliminated early. The big hands didn't stop there as during the middle of the day as Tibor Nagygyorgy eliminated three in one hand as his pocket aces held. This hand contributed to the Hungarian ending the day with a top three chip stack.

PokerStars Team Pro Ambassador Alejandro Lococo jumped straight into the tournament after his deep run in the Eureka Main Event and built a stack before getting his chips in with queen nine suited against [Removed:428]'s pocket nines to no avail. The bubble burst when Majid Nadeem's pocket jacks ran into Bleron Maliqi's pocket kings to end the day.

Play will resume from 1:00 p.m. local time where the 71 survivors from 1b will join the 159 players from 1a to battle for the huge prize money and the coveted EPT trophy. Blinds will resume at 4,000/8,000/8,000 with 17:36 left in Level 18.

Be sure to stay tuned to PokerNews as our live reporting team will be giving all the updates until a champion is crowned.

Action was three way with 7,500 in the pot. Vlastimil Stastny and Oliver Heidel were in the blinds while Jean-Louis Perez was on the button.

The board read {a-Hearts}{8-Spades}{6-Spades}{9-Clubs} and action checked to Perez who bet 4,500. Stastny called before Heidel raised to 32,000 forcing both opponents all in. Perez went deep into the tank before Heidel called the clock. Perez eventually called and Stastny quickly folded.

Jean-Louis Perez: {a-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}
Oliver Heidel: {7-Diamonds}{5-Spades}

Perez had two pair while Heidel had turned a straight. The river didn't save Perez as it came the {9-Hearts} which eliminated him from the tournament.

Straight Flush Over Quads in Huge Cooler

Nível 3 : Blinds 200/400, 400 ante
Oleksandra Shenderei
Oleksandra Shenderei

Joining the action on the river three ways with 14,500 in the pot. The board read {10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{10-Hearts}.

Dinesh Alt was in the big blind and bet 6,600. Oleksandra Shenderei was in early position and raised to 15,500 before Patrick Kallas moved all in for 27,500.

Alt went into the tank before folding and Shenderei quickly called having Kallas covered.

Kallas asked "Straight Flush?" and Shenderei turned over {q-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} for a flopped straight flush while Kallas slowly turned over {10-Clubs}{10-Spades} for rivered quads in a huge cooler in Shenderei's favour. Alt reached back to his cards in the muck and showed {8-Spades}{8-Clubs} for a full house which he correctly folded as Kallas exited the tournament area and the rest of the players looked on in amazement.

The PokerStars European Poker Tour Prague continues, with the €2,200 Eureka High Roller Day 1b kicking off at 7 p.m. local time inside the wonderful Hilton Prague.

Day 1a has already attracted near 1,000 entries and Day 1b offers players another chance to make it to Day 2. The previous iteration of the event in March had a record 1,149 entries and this event is almost certainly going to break that record.

The defending champion is Spain's Jose Manuel Gonzalez, who reigned supreme after defeating Pedro Marques in heads-up back in the Spring time. Gonzales claimed the €343,750 first-place prize following a deal and overcame a final table that included the likes of tournament specialists Nicolas Vayssieres and Romain Lewis.
