Another record-setting day has come to an end at the PokerStars European Poker Tour Prague and Italy’s Alessandro Manfredini leads 159 returning players from Day 1a of the €2,200 Eureka High Roller.

The field of 1,534 entries surpassed the previous record of 1,149, set earlier this year at the EPT stop right here at Hilton Prague. Today’s two opening flights generated a prize pool of €2,945,280, and the remaining 159 players from Day 1a players will join the 71 survivors from Day 1b on Monday at 1:00 p.m. local time for their shot at the top prize.

Manfredini is followed at the top of the leaderboard by Valentin-Marius Cristea, who bagged 701,000 to secure the second-place spot. Close behind is Kubanychbek Abakirov with 684,000, while Kasparas Klezys and Tom Orpaz round out the top five with 678,000 and 625,000, respectively.

PokerStars Ambassador Parker Talbot will return on Monday for Day 2

Day 1a Action

The day kicked off with 225 entries and PokerStars Ambassador Benjamin “Spraggy” Spragg chipped up early when he picked up a full house to bust his opponent’s queens on the very first hand of his day. It didn’t last long, however, and Spragg bowed out later in the afternoon after he couldn’t recover from taking an early hit to his stack.

Defending champion Jose Manuel Gonzalez also jumped in to try to follow up his March performance when he earned the top prize of €343,750. Gonzalez failed to find a bag for Day 2, along with Jason Wheeler, who made a run but bowed out just before the stone bubble.

Other notables that couldn’t survive the record-breaking opening flight include Paul Newey, Harry Lodge, Simon Lofberg, Fabio Peluso, Emil Bise, Juha Helppi, and Julien Sitbon, who jumped into Day 1b after his pocket sevens ran into the pocket aces of Abakirov.

The list of players that survived to see Day 2 includes Alexandre Reard, Simeon Naydenov, Dominik Panka, Stefan Lehner, Motoyoshi Okamura, and PokerStars Ambassador Parker Talbot, who took sixth in the EPT Prague Main Event back in 2018. Talbot will return with 83,000 and a chance to make a run at his first EPT trophy.

What's Next?

Day 2 kicks off on Monday at 1 p.m. local time with 17:36 left in Level 18 and blinds at 4,000/8,000 with an 8,000 ante. Action is expected to continue on Day 2 until a winner is declared.

Be sure to keep it with the PokerNews team for live updates throughout Monday’s Day 2 finale and the rest of the European Poker Tour stop at Hilton Prague.

Bouquet Hits River to Double; Obreshkov Busts

Nível 13 : Blinds 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
Stoyan Obreshkov
Stoyan Obreshkov

Stoyan Obreshkov opened to 5,000 from under the gun before Rui Bouquet made it 15,000 from middle position. Marco Regonaschi called from the small blind which prompted Obreshkov to jam for 91,500. Bouquet, who started the hand with 87,500, called for his tournament life while Regonaschi folded.

Rui Bouquet: {a-Spades}{k-Clubs}
Stoyan Obreshkov: {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades}

Obreshkov leapfrogged into the lead, making two pair on the {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{2-Spades} flop. The {10-Clubs} turn gave Bouquet outs to the straight but he didn't need it as the {k-Diamonds} river gave him a superior two pair for the double up.

Obreshkov was left with 4,000 and found a triple up in the next hand but was eliminated shortly after.

Julien Sitbon
Julien Sitbon

Julien Sitbon opened to 5,000 from middle position and then called when Kubanychbek Abakirov made it 15,000 to go from the hijack.

Sitbon check-called bets of 11,000 and 35,000 on the flop and turn for the final board to show {9-Clubs}{4-Spades}{10-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{10-Spades}.

Sitbon, with around 80,000 behind, checked once more and Abakirov moved all in as the big stack.

Sitbon went deep into the tank and tried his best to get some information from his opponent. Abakirov encouraged Sitbon to call and the Frenchman eventually complied.

Abakirov had the {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts} which bested Sitbon's {7-Hearts}{7-Spades}. Sitbon was eliminated and quickly headed to the registration desk to hop into the ongoing Day 1b.

Stefan Burch raised to 2,500 from middle position before Walter Treccarichi three-bet to 8,000. Rafal Nikiel flatted on the button and action folded back to Burch who put in the four-bet to 24,000. Treccarichi folded and then it was Nikiel's turn to raise and he moved all in for 52,100 and was snap-called by Burch.

Rafal Nikiel: {7-Spades}{6-Spades}
Stefan Burch: {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}

Nikiel had put in the five-bet jam with seven-high and needed to connect to stay in the Eureka High Roller. The {q-Hearts}{9-Spades}{7-Clubs} flop gave him the lead and he doubled up following the {4-Hearts} turn and {2-Hearts} river.

Burch was in disbelief while several of Nikiel's tablemates offered him first bumps for his creativity.

Also at the table is two-time WSOP bracelet winner Juha Helppi, who was also revealed to be World Champion paintball player.

PokerNews sat down with Helppi to discuss his exploits off and on the felt recently so be sure to check out the article.

Raphael Degelo open-jammed for 18,400 from under the gun before Patrik Demus made it around 100,000 on his direct left. Action folded Shai Attias, who had 26,000, snap-called for his tournament from the big blind.

Raphael Degelo: {k-Clubs}{k-Spades}
Shai Attias: {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}
Patrik Demus: {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}

All three players had premium hands but Degelo was the favorite until Attias moved ahead following the {q-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{3-Clubs} flop. Degelo was drawing to the last king in the deck while Demus had outs to the flush.

Nothing changed on the {9-Spades} turn but the {2-Clubs} gave Demus the winner and he downed two opponents to hit the 200,000 chip mark.
