Andrew Hulme Leads Day 1a of the 2019 PokerStars EPT Prague €1,100 EPT National

Nível 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Andrew Hulme
Andrew Hulme

It took nearly 17 full levels of play for Day 1a of the 2019 PokerStars EPT Prague €1,100 EPT National to reach its conclusion for the day. The first of three starting flights drew 624 entrants with play scheduled to go until the field reached 15 percent of its overall total, and that number of 94 was reached with 4:18 remaining in Level 17 (3,000/6,000/6,000).

Play was loaded with action all day long and well into the evening until the final hour of the night when the pace slowed down due to the pending money bubble. Several large stacks were visible throughout the room and it seemed as if there could be any one of a handful of players to emerge atop the counts when chips went into bags. However, it was Andrew Hulme who ultimately claimed that title after finishing the day with 551,000.

Hot on his heels were Andrej Desset (545,000), Alexiz Rozenblat (532,000), and Narcis Nedelcu (525,000), and they were the only other players to finish the day with more than a half-million in chips. Danilo Velasevic rounds out that top five having just missed that mark, finishing the day with 499,000.

Other notables to advance included Jose Quintas (432,000), Rifat Palevic (322,000), Davidi Kitai (170,000), and Gaelle Baumann (60,000).

Many others were many other players who were not as fortunate on the day, and with the tournament only allowing one entry per flight, those players found themselves on the rail for the event for the rest of the night. Among those who found themselves dry on chips before the day’s end included 2017 EPT National Prague champion Georgios Vrakas, Jason Gray, Michal Mrakes, Julien Martini, and Jean-René Fontaine. Czech WSOP Main Event Final Table participants Vojtech Ruzicka and Martin Staszko also found themselves among the list of players to not advance.

Two more flights remain, with Day 1b commencing at noon local time on Sunday and Day 1c following at 7 p.m. Sunday evening with a turbo format. All yet to advance may fire once into each remaining flight to try to earn their way into Day 2, where all returning players will find themselves in the money. However, larger expected fields on Sunday mean that there is still a lot of work left to be done when the field condenses as the tournament is not scheduled to play down to a winner until Day 4.

Foldy Can't Fold Into the Money

Nível 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
David Foldy
David Foldy

The money bubble has burst and it is David Foldy that has become the last player to bust. He was trying to sneak into the money but that, unfortunately, didn't work out as he was forced all-in for the last 6,000, having invested the other 6,000 as the big blind ante.

Narcis Nedelcu raised the button to 15,000 and the small blind folded.

"You are good," Nedelcu joked while they waited for the showdown as all other tables needed to finish their hands.

"Do I keep this if I lose?" Foldy inquired while he had the all-in triangle in the hand.

David Foldy: {5-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}
Narcis Nedelcu: {a-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}

Foldy spiked the superior flush draw on the {j-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} flop and added an open-ender on the {6-Clubs} turn, but the {j-Clubs} river was a blank to let the bubble burst.

All remaining Day 1a survivors will now bag and tag for the night.

Game Over for Burneikis

Nível 16 : 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Vladas Burneikis
Vladas Burneikis

Vladas Burneikis three-bet shoved for 85,000 and Sergei Koliakov reshoved to isolate from two seats over.

Vladas Burneikis: {a-Clubs}{6-Clubs}
Sergei Koliakov: {j-Hearts}{j-Spades}

Burneikis had doubled twice with suited aces recently but the third time was no charm as the {10-Spades}{9-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{7-Spades}{9-Hearts} board provided no help.

Pecheux Eliminates Jozonis

Nível 16 : 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Erwann Pecheux
Erwann Pecheux

There was around 75,000 in the middle on the river with the board reading {4-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{4-Clubs} and Tomas Jozonis had a bet of 20,000 in front of him from the hijack. Action was on Erwann Pecheux, who was on the button and didn't take long before announcing he was all in, effectively putting Jozonis to a decision for the last 65,000 or so behind him. After close to a minute, he dropped in chips to call.

Tomas Jozonis: {6-Clubs}{6-Hearts}
Erwann Pecheux: {8-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}

Jozonis had called off the last of his chips with a full house, fours full of sixes, and found it to be no good versus Pecheux's fours full of eights, resulting in his elimination from the tournament as 108 players now remain and only 14 more eliminations are needed for play to finish for the evening.

Giorgiy Skhulukhiya: {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}
Michal Klepczarek: {9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}

"No good," Klepczarek immediately said when he spotted the cards of his opponent and would be proven right as the board came {9-Spades}{5-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{j-Clubs}.

Palevic Check-Raises River for Value

Nível 12 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Rifat Palevic
Rifat Palevic

Rifat Palevic was in the big blind and defended versus an open to 5,000 by the player on the button. The two saw a flop of {8-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} and Palevic check-called a continuation-bet of 6,000. The turn then came {4-Spades} and both players checked.

The river fell {4-Diamonds} and Palevic checked again. His opponent put out a bet of 23,000 and Palevic thought for a couple of moments and then check-raised to 50,000. His opponent took a chip from his stack and tossed it into the middle to call, with the chip making a small arc on its journey to the felt.

Palevic then showed {4-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} for backdoor trips.

"What the f**k?" his opponent said quietly and calmly in a confused manner. "What were you calling with on the flop?"

"Queen high," said Palevic. "I thought it might be good, but this time it was not. I remember you; clearly you don't remember me," Palevic added.

"I don't even know what to say," responded the other player, causing both players to laugh as Palevic finished stacking his chips. "It was a good river for me and a bad one for you."

On the {9-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} flop, Banic check-folded to the shove of Papai to see the following showdown emerge.

Marc Radgen: {a-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}
Martin Staszko: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}
Laszlo Papai: {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs}

The {5-Clubs} turn and {9-Clubs} river ensured the double knockout and the pot was shipped to Papai.

Martini Chips Up With Flush

Nível 6 : 200/500, 500 ante
Julien Martini
Julien Martini

Julien Martini had a bet of 7,000 in front of him and was sitting with his hands holding his pulled-up hoodie over his face to cover his neck and mouth as his opponent, who was on the button, thought about his decision on a board reading {3-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}. After well over a minute, he tossed in chips to call.

Martini tabled {q-Hearts}{5-Hearts} and the dealer announced his queen-high flush. The player on the button sent his cards to the muck and Martini quickly stacked the chips that were sent his way.
