Deyra Can't Get Away From It

Nível 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Ivan Deyra
Ivan Deyra

In one of the last hands on the feature table before the break, Christophe Panetti raised to 17,000 under the gun with {q-Hearts}{j-Spades}, Ivan Deyra three-bet to 48,000 to his direct left with {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}, Aladin Reskallah four-bet to 110,000 to Deyra's left with {k-Hearts}{k-Spades}, Panetti folded, and Deyra called.

The {k-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{7-Spades} flop was dreadful for Deyra, who flopped top pair top kicker against Reskallah's top set. He check-called a 75,000 bet from his countryman after using a time bank card.

The turn brought the {9-Spades}. Deyra checked, Reskallah moved all in, and Deyra called it off for 196,000 drawing stone dead. The inconsequential {6-Spades} river completed the board and Reskallah shot up the leaderboard.

Julien Martini raised to 23,000 from the cutoff, Nicolas Chouity three-bet to 78,000 from the small blind and Martini called. The flop was {9-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{2-Hearts} and Martini called a 58,000 bet from the former champion.

The turn brought the {6-Hearts} and Chouity shoved all in, putting Martini to the test for his remaining 230,000. Martini called it off before using a time bank card, but found out he was miles behind.

Julien Martini: {9-Spades}{7-Spades}
Nicolas Chouity: {j-Spades}{j-Clubs}

Martini needed a nine or seven to continue his Main Event run but the river brought the {j-Diamonds} instead. "A great me would have folded. Today was not a great me," Martini reflected with PokerNews after the hand.

The French PSPC runner-up, who had topped the leaderboard throughout the tournament, had to settle for 52nd place worth €14,800.

Malinowski Breaks Seven Figures After Huge All in Against Barer

Nível 19 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Wiktor Malinowski
Wiktor Malinowski

There was already a large pile of 5k chips in the middle and Wiktor Malinowski later confirmed that the pot was three-bet to 110,000 by himself on the small blind after Ami Barer opened the button.

When {q-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{2-Spades} flopped, Malinowski continued small, setting 40,000 over the line. Barer called and the dealer placed a {9-Clubs} on the turn. The action went check-check and the last card out was the {7-Clubs}. Malinowski changed gears at this point, moving all in for 408,000. Barer, with no time bank cards left to use, didn't have long to decide and after 20 seconds or so, he put a few chips in to signify the call.

With such a big bet, Malinowski was making either a huge bluff or a huge value bet and Barer decided it was the former, turning over queen-ten for second pair. Instead Malinowski flipped over {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades} and for a turned set and is up with the big boys, sitting third in chips after that hand.

Macnamara Loses Big Race to Verbraeken

Nível 19 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Fionn Macnamara (left) & Jorden Verbraeken
Fionn Macnamara (left) & Jorden Verbraeken

Fionn Macnamara raised to 22,000 on the button, Jorden Verbraeken three-bet to 80,000 in the small blind, Macnamara four-bet shoved 470,000 and Verbraeken called it off to create a near 1M pot.

Fionn Macnamara: {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}
Jorden Verbraeken: {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}

The pair were off to the races and the rundown would either be the end of Macnamara or severely hurt the Belgian. The {q-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} flop kept Macnamara in the lead and the {8-Clubs} turn left Verbraeken with six outs.

The {a-Spades} landed on the river, one of Verbraeken's outs, and Macnamara's tournament life ended on the spot just like that. Shortly before the clash, Day 1b chip leader Sylvain Mazza's final chips were gone as well and both players headed to the payout desk.

Melogno Splashes the Pot

Pablo Melogno

The flop read {4-Hearts}{2-Spades}{3-Hearts} and Pablo Melogno was all-in and at risk from the hijack as Masato Yokosawa had him covered in the big blind.

Pablo Melogno: {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}
Masato Yokosawa: {a-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}

Yokosawa had flopped a straight and only another five could save Melogno's tournament life right now.

The turn was the {8-Clubs} and the river completed the board with the {9-Clubs} to seal the deal. Melogno did not get up from his chair immediately.

Instead, he decided to flick his stack over the line in several stages, summoning his best Teddy KGB in Rounders impression, which seemed to confuse everyone at the table. About fifteen slow flicks later, he was done and got up from his chair to make his way to the payout desk, while the confusion at the table had turned into loud laughter.

Shortly before the dinner break, the last PokerStars ambassador left in the field, Fatima Moreira de Melo, got eliminated from the Main Event. Folded around to the small blind, it was Aladin Reskallah who limped it in. Moreira de Melo shoved 214,000 from the big blind and Reskallah snap-called.

Fatima Moreira de Melo: {k-Spades}{9-Clubs}
Aladin Reskallah: {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}

Reskallah's plan had paid off and after the board ran out {k-Clubs}{q-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{5-Hearts}, Moreira de Melo said her goodbyes. The former Olympian received €14,800 for her 44th place finish.

Zeitoun Crushed After Five-Bet Shoving Flop

Nível 19 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Johann Zeitoun
Johann Zeitoun

In one of the final hands before the dinner break, Timothy Adams and Johann Zeitoun went to war at the feature table. It started off with Zeitoun raising from under the gun with {q-Spades}{q-Hearts} and Adams defending his big blind with {a-Clubs}{8-Hearts}.

The flop was {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} to improve Adams to trips and a huge lead in the hand. He checked, Zeitoun bet 20,000 and Adams check-raised to 61,000. Zeitoun clicked it back to 140,000, bringing it back to Adams. The Canadian high staker cut out a four-bet to 260,000, putting the decision back on Zeitoun.

The Frenchman decided to five-bet shove the flop for 834,000 and Adams instantly called it off for 747,000 total. Zeitoun got up from his chair to see neither {10-Clubs} turn nor {2-Hearts} river help his case. Adams soared up the leaderboard while Zeitoun was left with mere crumbs.
