Day 3 of the Main Event Kicks off at Noon Today

Monte Carlo
Monte Carlo

Welcome back to Day 3 of the flagship event of the 2019 PokerStars and Monte-Carlo®Casino European Poker Tour (EPT), the Main Event. The pace was fast and furious yesterday, with a 385-strong field reduced to just 107 over seven and a half hours of play at the Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort.

Each remaining player is guaranteed to take home at least €9,660 but it is fair to assume that they will all have their eyes on the top spot, with €827,700 up for grabs for 1st place, as well as the title, the trophy and a place in the EPT record books. First though, they will have to catch up with Wiktor Malinowski (769,000) and Julien Martini (735,000), who start today in pole position.

Though ahead of the pack when the claxon sounds in about an hour, Malinowski and Martini will face stiff competition from the likes of Seth Davies (684,000), James Romero (630,000), Pablo Melogno (607,000), Ludovic Geilich (606,000), Paul Michaelis (573,000) and Fionn Macnamara (572,000), who all feature in the top ten. On top of that Timothy Adams, Christoph Vogelsang, Patrik Antonius, Manig Loeser and Ryan Riess are just some of the poker heavyweights who are also still in contention.

Play will resume at Level 16, with blinds at 2,000/5,000 and a big blind ante of 5,000. There are at least five levels on the schedule for today, each lasting 90 minutes. There will be a 20-minute break at the end of each level and it is yet to be confirmed whether there will be a dinner break.

The PokerNews live reporting team will provide live updates from start to finish. The feature table will run with cards-up coverage on YouTube and Twitch, with a security delay of 30 minutes.

He did so from early position and Mikalai Vaskaboinikau three-bet from middle position to 34,000 with {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}. Antonius got out of the way but Vaskaboinikau called and they opened up.

The board ran out {10-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} and the pot was pushed to Vaskaboinikau while Colillas got eliminated in the first hand of the day.

Chouity Doubles Through Malinowski

Nível 16 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante
Nicolas Chouity
Nicolas Chouity

Wiktor Malinowski had just lost a big pot to Melika Razavi and was now back involved in a hand.

Nicolas Chouity raised to 11,000 from the button which Malinowski called in the small blind.

The flop came down {9-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}, Malinowski check-shoved on the 11,000 bet of Chouity which Chouity snap-called for the 64,000 he had behind.

Nicolas Chouity: {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}
Wiktor Malinowski: {q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}

They both held a pocket pair but Chouity was ahead with the higher one.

The turn was the {10-Diamonds} for Malinowski to pick up some extra outs for a flush draw to eliminate the 2010 EPT Monte Carlo Champion but the river completed the board with the {6-Hearts}.

Scalzi Gets Lucky Versus Moreira De Melo

Nível 16 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante
Fatima Moreira de Melo
Fatima Moreira de Melo

PokerStars Ambassador Fatima Moreira De Melo has taken a hit to her stack after losing a three-outer against Antonio Scalzi. Moreira De Melo opened to 10,000 and Scalzi moved all in for 65,000 from the small blind. Moreira De Melo made a quick call but Scalzi thought she had folded and his cards almost went into the muck, before the confusion was sorted out.

Fatima Moreira De Melo: {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}
Antonio Scalzi: {a-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}

The flop was an interesting {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}, giving Scalzi more outs to chop. The {j-Clubs} on the river saw Scalzi move into the lead and with no king, ace or case nine on the {10-Clubs} river, Fatima counted out the chips to hand over.

Michaelis Takes the Chip Lead After Making a Move Against Martini

Nível 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Paul Michaelis
Paul Michaelis

Vamshi Vandanapu opened the action to 14,000 and Paul Michaelis flat called in middle position. Julien Martini got position, calling in the cutoff, before it came to the blinds. Danilo Velasevic came along from the small blind before Bruno Volkmann upped it to 55,000. Michaelis and Martini were the only callers and the three players went to the flop.

It came {10-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} and Volkmann didn't continue. Michaelis put 70,000 over the line and Martini called behind before Volkmann got out of the way.

On the {4-Hearts} turn, Michaelis checked-raised Martini's 80,000 bet to 400,000 all in. The Frenchman folded and EPT Prague Champion Michaelis is good for the chip lead after winning that hand.

Verbraeken Cracks Kings with Queens to Send Wang Home

Nível 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Michael Wang
Michael Wang

Less than half an hour ago, Michael Wang got lucky with ace-queen to bust David Lascar's pocket-kings. The tables were turned just now after Wang's {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} failed to hold against Jorden Verbraeken's {q-Hearts}{q-Spades}.

Preflop Wang opened to 13,000 and Verbraeken three-bet to 40,000 in the small blind, which Wang called. The {6-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{3-Spades} flop looked good for both overpairs and when Verbraeken continued for 60,000, Wang flatted behind.

The turn was a {q-Diamonds} and Verbraeken moved into the massive lead with top set. Once again, he bet and Wang called 60,000 to see a river. It was a {3-Hearts} pairing the bottom card and Verbraeken moved all in for 250,000. Wang quickly called but with fewer chips than his opponent, he had to say goodbye.

Seth Fischer Knows the Pain of Poker

Seth_Fischer

If you don’t know who Seth “SFisch04” Fischer is, that’s partially by design. Though he’s a PokerStars qualifier here at EPT Monte Carlo, he doesn’t maintain a PocketFives profile and says he enjoys flying under the radar. But it’s also partly chance. Had a single card fallen friendly in 2008, things might have been different.

Born and raised in Florida, Fischer was at college in Atlanta when he became one of the millions who picked up poker during the Moneymaker boom.
