Ahadpur Khangah Leads After EPT Barcelona €100,000 Super High Roller Day 1

Nível 8 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante
Ahadpur Khangah
Ahadpur Khangah

Ahadpur Khangah finished second in last year's EPT Barcelona €100,000 Super HIgh Roller, and is now in pole position to better that result after having bagged the chip lead at the end of Day 1.

This year's field is already larger than last year's, as 57 players jumped into the biggest buy-in event that EPT Barcelona has to offer.

Only two years ago, the largest buy-in event at the festival was a €50,000 Super High Roller, but with the changing High Roller landscape pushing buy-ins and payouts ever higher, a big field was almost expected today.

This has already generated a prize pool of over €5.5 million, but with late registration open until the start of Day 2, expect that number to grow further still.

Chip Leaders

Teun Mulder was responsible for the first two eliminations of the day, with Michael Zhang and Daniel Dvoress eliminated, and he moved up to well over 650,000 in chips.

He enjoyed a quiet day from then on, content to relinquish the chip lead to the likes of Timothy Adams, Sam Grafton, Ahadpur Khangah and Sergio Aido, before regaining it in spectacular fashion late on.

He flopped two pair with ten-seven from the big blind to crack the pocket aces of Ben Heath and send the Brit to the rail. However, there was still time for last year's runner-up Khangah to fire back against the Dutchman, with the Iranian bagging the chip lead with 1,390,000 ahead of Mulder's 966,000.

EPT Monte Carlo €100,000 champion Sergio Aido bagged 852,000, with Michael Addamo (835,000) not far behind him.

Day 1 Eliminations

It wasn't such a good day for the aforementioned Zhang, who fired two bullets unsuccessfully, and he was joined on the rail by Joris Ruijs, Chris Hunichen, Ramin Hajiyev, Cary Katz and Vladimir Troyanovskiy.

Another player who busted on Day 1 was EPT Monte-Carlo €100,000 Super High Roller runner-up Jesus Cortes, who can still jump in at the start of Day 2 if he wants to better his result from earlier this year.

Stay tuned to PokerNews for continued coverage of the festival, including the €25,000 Short Deck High Roller, starting on the 25th August, and of course the €5,300 Main Event, starting on the 26th August.

Mulder Pulls In Largest Pot of the Day

Nível 8 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante
Teu Mulder
Teu Mulder

Ben Heath and Teun Mulder were heads-up in a pot with the board reading {10-Spades}{7-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}. With around 90,000 in the middle, Mulder led out for 100,000 from the big blind. Heath called from under the gun and the {5-Diamonds} completed the board.

Mulder used up a time extension before announcing all in, putting Heath to the test for his remaining 315,000 chips. Heath also used his last time bank before splashing in some chips to indicate a call.

Mulder flipped over {10-Clubs}{7-Spades} for two pair while Heath could only muster one pair with {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}. Mulder cracked the aces to scoop the largest pot of the day and take over the chip lead.

Zhang Eliminated for the Second Time

Nível 4 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Michael Zhang
Michael Zhang

Vladimir Troyanovskiy opened to 4,500 from the hijack and Michael Zhang three-bet to 15,500 from the button.

"How much you playing Mikey?" asked Sam Grafton from the big blind, with around 230,000 the answer. Grafton then four-bet to 51,000 and Troyanovskiy folded.

Zhang five-bet all in and Grafton called.

Michael Zhang: {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}
Sam Grafton: {q-Hearts}{q-Spades}

There was a queen on the flop of {q-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{4-Spades} leaving Zhang needing running cards to stay alive. The {2-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} was not what he required and he became the first player to be eliminated twice from the €100,000 Super High Roller.

"Welcome to the World's Greatest Poker"

Nível 3 : 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante

Sam Grafton raised it up from middle position and was called by Teun Mulder and Michael Zhang in the blinds. The flop fell {9-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} and Mulder checked to Zhang who bet 5,000. Grafton raised to 23,000 and both Mulder and Zhang called.

The turn was the {q-Spades} and the action checked around to the {4-Clubs} on the river. Mulder and Zhang both checked again and Grafton fired out a bet of 35,000. Mulder folded and Zhang's cards quickly followed into the muck.

"Welcome to the world's greatest poker," Grafton laughed as he dragged in the pot.

Zhang Becomes the First to Hit the Rail

Nível 3 : 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Michael Zhang
Michael Zhang

Teun Mulder raised to 4,000 in middle position and was called by Daniel Dvoress in the hijack and Sam Grafton on the button. Michael Zhang re-raised to 23,500 in the small blind and was met with a four-bet to 44,000 from Mulder. Dvoress and Grafton both folded as Zhang shoved in his stack of just under 90,000. Mulder quickly called and the cards were tabled.

Teun Mulder: {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}
Michael Zhang: {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}

It was a classic coin flip and Zhang held the lead through the {j-Spades}{6-Spades}{6-Diamonds} flop. However, the {a-Spades} on the turn was exactly what Mulder was looking for. The {7-Hearts} completed the board and Zhang became the first player eliminated.

Adams Continues to Stack Early

Nível 2 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Timothy Adams
Timothy Adams

Three players headed to a flop of {a-Spades}{6-Spades}{2-Clubs} and Timothy Adams started with a check. Seth Davies bet 2,500 and was called by Isaac Haxton on his left. Adams check-raised to 14,000 and only Davies called.

The turn was the {a-Hearts} and Adams fired out another bet of 29,000. Davies still called and the {5-Hearts} completed the board. Adams went into the tank again, using a time extension before splashing in a bet of 90,000. Davies quickly called and Adams flipped over {a-Clubs}{6-Clubs} for the nuts. Davies released his cards and Adams has quickly doubled his starting stack.

The €100,000 EPT Barcelona Super High Roller Kicks Off Today

Mikita_Badziakouski
Mikita_Badziakouski

One of the most anticipated events on the schedule for the 2019 PokerStars EPT Barcelona festival is set to kick off shortly at 12:30 pm local time. The €100,000 EPT Barcelona Super High Roller boasts the largets tournament buy-in and holds a level of prestige, unlike many others.

Some of the best players from all over the world will gather at Casino Barcelona this week and many of them are expected to take part in this fantastic event. With tournament organizers expecting record attendance numbers this year, there will be no surprise to see millions of dollars up for grabs.

In 2018, Mikita Badziakouski captured the title along with over €1,650,000 as part of his career season. Badziakouski is no stranger to high-roller tournaments anymore and he will be back to defend his title. Badziakouski defeated Ahadpur Khangah in heads-up action, who also recorded his first seven-figure tournament score. While the tournament will attract some of the biggest players in the game, many recreational businessmen will also be around to try their luck with such high stakes on the table.

To get things rolling, each player will begin with a starting stack of 250,000 chips and six time bank cards of 30 seconds apiece. The shot clock will be in play from the start of the tournament with 30 seconds to complete each action. The blinds will begin at 500/1,000 and a 1,000 big blind ante for the opening two levels. The levels will be 60 minutes in length and a total of eight levels are on tap for the first day of play.

There will be a 20-minute break after every two levels with no dinner break scheduled for today. Late registration will remain open until the end of level eight and with an unlimited re-entry option, the chips are expected to be flying right from the start.
