Gianluca Speranza Leads EPT Prague €10,300 High Roller After Day 1

Nível 10 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Gianluca Speranza
Gianluca Speranza

After a deep run in the EPT Prague Main Event, Gianluca Speranza jumped into the PokerStars European Poker Tour €10,300 High Roller and bagged the overall chip lead after ten levels of play on day 1 with 99 players remaining.

"I registered a little bit later today," he told PokerNews shortly after bagging up 365,500 from a 50,000 starting stack. "I took a bit of a rest yesterday night after playing in the Main Event for a couple of days, so I skipped maybe a couple of levels. But the structure is really great and really playable.

"The Main Event and the High Roller are two completely different tournaments. I like to play this kind of 10k; the field is really great."

Day 1 of the High Roller attracted a total of 245 entries including 54 re-entries. Late registration and a single re-entry is open until the start of play on Day 2 so expect that number to grow as players opt to jump into the action.

Other big stacks include Bahram Chobineh (352,000), Sam Grafton (259,500), Ole Schemion (244,500), Max Silver (241,500), and 2013 PCA champion Dimitar Danchev (240,000).

Danny Tang

As is expected of the main High Roller in any tournament, there are plenty of big names. Last year's champion Danny Tang was among them in making it through to Day 2. Last year under the guise of the PokerStars Championship, he took down the €10,300 High Roller for €381,000. This year he will take 102,500 through to Day 2.

The winners of both €25,000 Single-Day High Rollers at the EPT Prague festival Thomas Boivin (70,000) and Corentin Ropert (170,000) will also be in action when play resumes, as well as winner of the first €10,300 High Roller Akin Tuna (117,500).

Plenty more big names will be in action including Michael Addamo (181,500) Jean-Noel Thorel (132,000), Patrik Antonius (125,500), Joao Vieira (117,000), Martin Finger (77,000), Charlie Carrel (70,000), andBryan Paris (55,000).

Here's the structure for Day 2 which gets underway at 12:30 pm local time.

Ropert Doubles Through Dimov

Nível 10 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Corentin Ropert
Corentin Ropert

Corentin Ropert, who yesterday won the biggest title of his career after he took down the €25,000 EPT Single-Day High Roller, has just doubled through Ognyan Dimov.

The completed board was down {q-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{5-Clubs}, and Ropert was facing an all in from Dimov for 75,000.

Ropert had 63,000 behind and was in the tank. A crowd gathered to watch Ropert decided, and ultimately he called.

Dimov tabled {8-Spades}{9-Spades} for a pair of nines, and Ropert revealed {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} for a set to win the pot and leave Dimov short.

Wigg Coolered Out of High Roller

Nível 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Anton Wigg
Anton Wigg

There was an open and two calls including Jiayu Ruan before Anton Wigg defended his big blind.

The players checked a flop of {9-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} and the turn {6-Clubs} checked to Ruan who bet 8,700. Wigg check-raised to 27,000. Ruan moved all in and Wigg called.

Anton Wigg: {9-}{9-}
Jiayu Ruan: {6-Hearts}{6-Spades}

Both players held sets but the {6-Diamonds} river improved Ruan to quads and a shocked Wigg was eliminated.

"That's one way to lose," he said as he headed to the cashier to re-enter.

Schemion Eliminated

Nível 5 : 200/500, 500 ante
Ole Schemion
Ole Schemion

The action folded to Ole Schemion in the cutoff, and he moved all in for just 400. Mark Buckley raised to 1,600, and Johnny Nedved called in the big blind.

Buckley and Nedved checked all the way on the {4-Spades}{j-Spades}{q-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{9-Hearts} board, and the three players went to a showdown.

Ole Schemion: {7-Spades}{6-Clubs}
Mark Buckley: {3-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}
Johnny Nedved: {5-Hearts}{6-Hearts}

Buckley's pocket threes were enough to win the pot, and Schemion departed from the table.

Grafton Hits a House to Double

Nível 4 : 200/400, 400 ante
Sam Grafton
Sam Grafton

Sam Grafton raised to 900 from under the gun, and both Alexandru Papazian and Georgios Kitsios called.

The flop fell {k-Hearts}{9-Spades}{3-Spades} and all three players checked. The turn card was the {k-Diamonds} and Kitsios bet 2,500 from the big blind. Grafton called from early position, and Papazian folded on the button.

When the river card fell the {4-Spades}, Kitsios bet 5,600. Grafton moved all in for around 18,000 and was met with a call.

Grafton tabled {k-Clubs}{9-Clubs} for the full house, and Kitsios was unfortunate to lose holding {q-Spades}{8-Spades} for the rivered flush.

Grafton is now sat with a stack worth 45,000.

Akin Tuna

The third and final €10,300 buy-in event of the PokerStars European Poker Tour Prague festival gets underway at 12:30 pm local time in the Hilton Prague as a new bunch of players look to emulate the achievements of Akin Tuna over the next three days.

In the €10,300 Pot-Limit Omaha Single-Day event, Alexander Norden came through a 26-player field to seize victory for €93,300.

Today, players will compete across ten 60-minute levels with a starting stack worth 50,000. Late registration will be open until the start of Day 2 (12:30 Monday, December 17) with each player allowed a single reentry.

The 30-second shot clock will be implemented from the start of the event, and each player will receive six time bank cards of 30 seconds each at the start of play.
