When play resumed for Day 2 of the 2016 PokerStars and Monte-Carlo® Casino EPT Grand Final €5,300 Main Event, 196 players from a field of 1,098 entries returned to the tables at the Monte-Carlo Bay Resort and Pierre Calamusa was leading the survivors. Only the top 159 spots were guaranteed a payday of at least €8,890 and the bubble burst at the very end of the second level of play.

Aaron Gustavson raised on the button and Jinfeng Huo defended from the big blind. Huo open jammed 100,000 on the {K-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{2-Hearts} flop, and Gustavson called with the {6-Hearts}{4-Hearts} for a baby flush. Huo's {K-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} for two pair had outs, but both {7-Spades} turn and {10-Hearts} river blanked.

Just prior to Huo's bubble-bursting exit, John Juanda soft-bubbled after running ace-king into the pocket aces of Juan Etcheverry. Other big names to bust before the money included David Peters, Salvatore Bonavena, Mike Watson, Ilan Boujenah, and Javier Zarco.

Once the money was reached, the seats began to empty, as one by one players hit the rail and headed to the payout window. Jake Cody and Max Silver had to settle for a min-cash, Dominykas Karmazinas joined them, and Dimitar Danchev also busted.

Erik Seidel lost a flip with king-queen against the deuces of Vanessa Selbst, and then Davidi Kitai also went out. Other notables to exit before the end of the day included Paul Hoefer, Dermot Blain, Steven van Zadelhoff, Sam Chartier, John Gale, and Yucel "Mad Turk" Eminoglu.

After five levels of 90 minutes each, the field was reduced to just 74 players, and leading the pack was Marcin Chmielewski. The Pole, who finished 21st in the France Poker Series High Roller a few days prior, bagged up 1.314 million to claim the overnight lead.

Natan Chauskin with 1.107 million and Roman Korenev with 1.091 million were the only other players to bag seven-figure stacks.

Despite not hitting seven figures, there were plenty of big stacks still left, including Dario Sammartino (902,000), Thiago Nishijima (848,000), Erwann Pecheux (818,000), Adrien Allain (810,000), Fatima Moreira de Melo (807,000), Govert Metaal (704,000), Antoine Saout (626,000), Vanessa Selbst (616,000), and Randy Lew (455,000).

Day 4 will commence Wednesday at 12 p.m. local time with another five 90-minute levels scheduled. The PokerNews Live Reporting team will be there to cover all the crucial action, so make sure to tune back in when history is being written on the French Riviera.

Chmielewski and Aissani Thriving

[user38873] • Nível 19: 4,000-8,000, 1,000 ante

Marcin Chmielewski just clashed with Kiryl Radzivonau in a three-bet pot according to the colleagues of the PokerStars blog where Radzivonau three-bet big to 125,000 from the cutoff. Only the Pole called and the duo checked the {A-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{3-Clubs} flop. On the {Q-Hearts} turn, Chmielewski bet 110,000 and was called before the board completed with the {2-Diamonds} river.

Radzivonau was put all in for around 330,000 and the Belorussian folded after plenty of consideration, claiming to have had ace-queen.

Also thriving at the end: Mohamed Aissani. He had an opponent four-bet jam for 300,000 with ace-king and Aissani snap-called with pocket aces.

Selbst Big, Not Bigger

MartyDerby • Nível 19: 4,000-8,000, 1,000 ante

Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Selbst was looking to bag huge, but she might have to settle for just bagging big, after doubling up Joseph Mouawad with the clock getting short in the day's final level.

He shoved close to 90,000 and she pushed in to isolate with the {2-Spades}{2-Clubs}. Selbst was shaking her head the whole way as the board rolled out {6-Clubs}{9-Spades}{7-Spades}{7-Diamonds} to the turn, giving Mouawad's {a-Spades}{5-Diamonds} multiple ways to win.

The {8-Diamonds} was one of them, with Mouawad making a straight to double up.

Thi Xoa Nguyen had been on a massive heater since the bubble, but just cooled off a bit.

She made it 17,000 under the gun and Andrea Rocci defended his big blind.

She continued on the {8-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{7-Spades} flop and bet a healthy 63,000 after Rocci checked the {3-Spades} turn. Rocci called again and they both checked the {q-Diamonds} river. Rocci showed the {a-Hearts}{10-Hearts} and Nguyen mucked.

Three Hands To Go!

[user38873] • Nível 19: 4,000-8,000, 1,000 ante

The clock has been stopped with 76 players left according to the screens and three more hands will be played before bagging and tagging.

Siddique Gone

[user38873] • Nível 19: 4,000-8,000, 1,000 ante

Usman Siddique's tournament has come to an end with {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs} against the {A-Spades}{8-Hearts} of Stephan Zesiger. The flop {9-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{5-Hearts} gave the Swiss a gutshot and while the {4-Spades} turn was a blank, the {7-Spades} river completed said flush to send the Brit packing.

Moreira de Melo Gets Over On Gale

Team PokerStars SportStar Fatima Moreira de Melo is back in the black here after busting the venerable John Gale.

The multiple bracelet winner and brain cancer survivor shoved in on the turn of an {a-Spades}{4-Spades}{k-Spades}{5-Clubs} board for 160,000 with about 90,000 in the middle already.

Moreira de Melo didn't call quickly, but she did call with the {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts}. Gale was on the {a-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} and graciously said good game on his way out the door when the {k-Hearts} river bricked.

Guenoun Loses Flip to Daher

[user38873] • Nível 19: 4,000-8,000, 1,000 ante

Bertrand Guenoun was all in and at risk for around 90,000 chips with pocket tens, facing the {Q-Clubs}{J-Clubs} from Albert Daher.

The {Q-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} flop improved Daher and it got even worse for the Frenchman on {2-Clubs} turn and {K-Clubs} river, improving Daher to a flush and sending Guenoun to the rail.
