Back In The Black

Nível 7 : 250/500, 50 ante

Fresh off a runner-up finish in the €250+20 End of Month Event at the 2016 Fitzwilliam Card Club back in Dublin, Irishman Andy Black, who famously finished fifth in the 2005 World Series of Poker Main Event, is taking a kick at the EPT Grand Final can here today.

He's nursing a little above a starting stack like a veteran pro as well, having just fired in a 1,200-chip bet from under the gun that got called by both blinds. They all carefully checked the {a-Spades}{5-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} flop, but after the blinds tapped the table on the {8-Spades} turn, Black fired again, making it 2,000.

The blinds folded and Black inched a little more above starting.

Liv Takes A Chance, Chance Gives To Liv: The Sequel

Chance Kornuth
Chance Kornuth

High Roller killer Chance Kornuth has found his footing here in the Grand Final, having pushed above 70,000.

Team PokerStars Pro Liv Boeree has not fared as well, still hovering around the starting-stack mark. However, that did not prevent her from defending her big blind after Kornuth opened to 1,250.

The two saw a {k-Clubs}{q-Spades}{5-Spades} flop heads-up, and after Boeree checked, Kornuth bet 1,100. Boeree called and checked again on the {9-Hearts} turn. Kornuth checked behind, and after the {2-Spades} river, Boeree took the lead for the first time, firing out 2,300. Kornuth folded and Boeree took a little bite out of his growing stack to move up to 32,000.

"I trapped him!" Daniel Negreanu just said with a big smile, as we ran into him leaving the tournament room.

The quote suggested a good result, but the truth was far from that as Negreanu busting the EPT Grand Final in record speed after entering the tournament after the dinner break.

Negreanu told us what happened in the hand that went as following.

Negreanu raised under the gun holding ace-king to 1,175 and the man he just told to speed things up - Markku Koplimaa - three-bet to 3,450 from the small blind. Negreanu made the call, and the flop brought out {K-}{9-}{5-} with two spades.

Koplimaa bet 3,600 on the flop and Negreanu called, and a {7-} hit on the turn. Negreanu called another 7,000 chips and the board completed on the river with a {J-}, and Koplimaa put Negreanu all in.

"I called for 17,000, and he had six-eight of diamonds," Negreanu cackled.

Negreanu was knocked out by the straight of his opponent, and Koplimaa now sits on 200,000.

Daniel NegreanuOut in record time! I raise AK, small blind 3 bet. Flop K95 turn 7 river J. He got me with 68 lol! #EPTGrandFinal
Daniel NegreanuBest part, kid says "I didn't want to bust you" and someone goes "so you 3 bet him with 68?" Haha :-)

"Thank You Very Much"

Andres Vlachos just raised from the cutoff and Pierre-Henri Ligier three-bet to 3,300 from the small blind, after which Vlachos made it 9,300. Ligier tanked for a bit before calling, and the flop brought out {A-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{5-Hearts} and both players checked.

The turn brought the {7-Hearts} and Ligier lead out for 7,000 and Vlachos called.

On the river a blank hit, and Ligier bet 19,000, and Vlachos called after about 30 seconds.

Ligier did not look too pleased, and after a slight hesitation he mucked his cards. Vlachos took down the pot at showdown without showdown, and said, "Thank you very much."

Sam Chartier
Sam Chartier

In the battle of aggressive French-speaking players not from France, or Monaco for that matter, French-Canadian Sam Chartier is beating up on Belgian Davidi Kitai.

Not only does he lord over him on the leader board, but Chartier won't let a Kitai raise get through. Sitting two seats over, Chartier called a 1,300-chip open from Kitai in position. Then, when Kitai checked the {q-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} flop, Chartier picked up the pot with a bet of 1,500.

A hand later, he was at it again, stomping all over a 1,075-chip open from Kitai with a three-bet. Kitai folded and may or may not have been overheard asking the floor for a table change, depending on your translation.

Estonian Ranno Sootla checked over to Brazilian Friend of PokerStars Felipe Ramos on a {5-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{9-Hearts} board and Ramos bet 1,800.

Sootla check-raised it up to 4,700 and Ramos tank-called. The {8-Spades} turn saw Sootla bet 5,200, and Ramos called again. Finally, they both checked the {4-Diamonds} river with Sootla sheepishly turning over the {2-Hearts}{4-Hearts}.

His rivered two pair was good, as Ramos mucked.
