Alex Goulder Leads After Day 3 of the 2016 PokerStars EPT Dublin Main Event

Nível 19 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Alex Goulder
Alex Goulder

Day 3 of the 2016 PokerStars European Poker Tour Dublin Main Event started with the 605-player field already diminished to just 127 hopefuls. Some 40 of those would still leave empty handed, as there were just 87 checks to be handed out.

Some of the well-known players not to make it were Carlos Chadha, Michael Wang, Nick Abou Risk, Pratyush Buddiga, Fernando Brito, and Chris Moorman.

Another player that didn't make the cut was November Niner Zvi Stern, who had started the day with a very healthy 140,000-chip stack. He called a three-bet out of position with ace-nine and front shoved all in for a couple times the pot after flopping a flush draw. Unfortunately for him, his opponent, Jean-Noel Thorel, wasn't backing down with his unimproved ace-jack high, and he called. After both the turn and river blanked, Stern made his exit.

Despite collecting a big pot there, and winning several others, Thorel would not make the money. The Frenchman, known for not giving up in pots easily, moved in with an open-end straight and backdoor flush draws, only to run in to the set of former November Niner Antoine Saout.

The bubble loomed not much later after EPT Deauville champion Ognyan Dimov made his exit in 89th place. Hand-for-hand play started with 88 players remaining, a stage that took just a little while with Sven Magirius busting out soon after it began. He was down to just four big blinds and made his move with ace-king. Brazilian player Alexandre Rivero woke up with pocket tens and put the German at risk. Rivero flopped an open-end straight draw and turned his straight to send Rivero packing.

As one might expect, with the bubble out of the way, players busted out left and right. Christoph Vogelsang, David Vamplew, and Bart Lybaert were just a couple of the players signing for a min-cash worth €9,100.

Liv Boeree signed for the same payout, as she was unable to beat ace-nine suited with pocket sevens. Her opponent flopped an ace and turned a flush on a card that gave the British PokerStars Team Pro a set. The board failed to pair on the river, and Boeree made her exit in 74th place.

Well-known French rounder Fabrice Soulier was the first to bust out in a higher pay grade, receiving €10,270 after getting rivered with ace-jack against king-queen.

Andrew Chen (nines against jacks), Mike McDonald (ace-king against jack-ten), and Anthony Zinno (ace-king cracked by king-queen) busted out not much later, also receiving €10,270.

Where some fell, others thrived, with Alex Goulder as a prime example. He ended the day as chip leader with 1.02 million in his stack, good for 102 big blinds at the start of Day 4. PokerStars Team Pro Luca Pagano (470,000) — the only player with three EPT Dublin cashes to his name already — PokerStars Team Online's Jaime Staples (241,000), and British regular Scott Margereson (642,000) also collected healthy stacks on Day 3.

Dzmitry Urbanovich will be making an appearance on Day 4 as well, though his 164,000 stack is on the low side. Same goes for two-time EPT Prague finalist David Boyaciyan (147,000), Russian karate expert Artem Litvinov (326,000), and November Niner Pierre Neuville (262,000).

Day 4 of the Main Event starts Thursday at 12 p.m. local time with another five 90-minute levels on the schedule. Besides the Main Event, the three-day €10,750 High Roller gets underway at 12:30. PokerNews.com will be on site for coverage, so check back to get updates from both big events in the Irish capital of Dublin.

In the meantime, check out Sasha Salinger's interview with then chip leader [Removed:412].

Timothy Adams Gets Eliminated...Twice

Nível 19 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Timothy Adams
Timothy Adams

I doubt there have been so many ups and downs in so few hands for Timothy Adams or indeed any other poker player. First, Adams was all in holding {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds} against Anton Wigg's {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}, or at least that was what the red triangle on the table indicated.

After the board came {j-Spades}{3-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}, Adams stood and said his regards to the table before heading towards the tournament staff around a table. It was only after Wigg and the dealer took a more thorough look at counting their chips, that it was discovered that Adams actually covered Wigg, albeit by just 13,000. Adams was waved back over to the table, and took his place for the next hand.

As is to be expected of someone holding 1.5 big blinds, Adams shoved the next hand and got four callers, including Wigg. The board of {j-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} was checked through and Adams sheepishly turned over {2-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} - and was good! That took is ailing stack up to around 55,000.

The very next hand Adams moved all-in from under the gun, but this got through. To his credit, he did show the {a-Spades}. However the dream comeback evaporated the very next hand. Bernardo Dias opened from the cut-off and Adams shoved his remaining 60,000 or so chips from the big blind. "I have to call," said Dias tabling {2-Hearts}{2-Spades}.

Adams was behind holding {a-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}, but there were a few chuckles around the table as the board came {7-Spades}{6-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}. However they were eclipsed by groans, as the {2-Diamonds} came on the turn, and the {4-Spades} meant that Adams headed to the exit for the second time in four hands.

Mateos Flushes Koroknai

Nível 19 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Andras Koroknai
Andras Koroknai

Adrian Mateos opened to 16,000 from the button and Andras Koroknai then three-bet to 44,000 from the small blind with the Spaniard coming along. On the flop {K-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{8-Clubs}, Koroknai continued for 40,000 and was called while both players then checked the {7-Spades} turn.

On the {7-Diamonds} river, Koroknai jammed for 125,000 and Mateos was snap called.

Koroknai: {A-Clubs}{K-Spades}
Mateos: {10-Clubs}{7-Clubs}

The former November Niner departed and Mateos moved up to more than average.

McDonald Bluffs it All, Departs

Nível 18 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Mike McDonald
Mike McDonald

From the cutoff, Jiachen Gong made it 14,000 to go before Alex Goulder on the button made the call. In the big blind, Mike McDonald squeezed to 48,000 and Gong folded. Goulder asked how much it was, and called.

McDonald made a bet of 45,000 on {7-Spades}{5-Hearts}{J-Hearts} and Goulder called. The {10-Diamonds} hit the turn and McDonald paused for a bit, before moving all in for 162,000. Goulder called instantly.

Mike McDonald: {A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}
Alex Goulder: {10-Clubs}{J-Clubs}

Just minutes ago, McDonald had doubled up Neuville with ace-king, and unless he hit a queen here, he would part ways with the rest of his chips with the same hand.

The {8-Hearts} completed the board and Goulder and McDonald shook hands, before the latter made his exit.

Neuville Doubles Through McDonald

Nível 18 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Pierre Neuville
Pierre Neuville

From early position, Pierre Neuville opened for 16,000. Action folded to Mike McDonald on the button and the Canadian high roller three-bet to 38,000. Both blinds folded, Neuville called.

The Belgian pensionado checked on {6-Hearts}{7-Spades}{8-Hearts} and McDonald followed his preflop aggression up with an all in. Neuville had 131,000 left at this point, and called just about instantly.

Pierre Neuville: {10-Hearts}{10-Spades}
Mike McDonald: {A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}

The {2-Spades} on the turn was a safe card for Neuville, and so was the {Q-Spades} on the river. Double up for the November Niner, while McDonald slips down to just over quarter a million.

Boeree Loses Race in Last Hand

Liv Boeree
Liv Boeree

In the very last hand of the level, Liv Boeree shoved for what looked like 66,000 from under the gun and Charles La Boissonnire tank-called out of the big blind.

Boeree had {7-Clubs}{7-Spades} and La Boissonnire flipped over {A-Hearts}{9-Hearts}, spiking an ace on the {A-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{6-Hearts} flop. The {7-Hearts} on the turn gave Boeree a set and her opponent the nut flush while the river blanked.

Mike McDonald Gets There

Nível 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Mike McDonald
Mike McDonald

Pre-flop Rodrigo Perez limped the small blind and McDonald raised to 14,000. Perez called and then shoved on a flop of {2-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{10-Spades}. Timex gave Perez the stare down treatment that he is so famous for before committing the chips for a call.

Perez: {7-Spades}{9-Spades}
McDonald: {j-Diamonds}{k-Spades}

McDonald had made a call with king-high, but the {q-Hearts} on the turn meant that the Canadian was open-ended, and the {a-Diamonds} on the river eliminated his Argentinian opponent.

Vogelsang and Halleux Eliminated in the Same Hand

Nível 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Christoph Vogelsang
Christoph Vogelsang

From first position, Christoph Vogelsang shoved his last 35,500 in. Action folded around to Bernardo Dias on the button and he shoved over the top for about 115,000.

In the small blind, Bart Lybaert folded his short stack, and action was on Fabrice Halleux in the big blind. He had just 7,000 behind and committed his 12,000 total as well, to make it a three-way showdown:

Christoph Vogelsang: {A-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}
Fabrice Halleux: {A-Spades}{5-Hearts}
Bernardo Dias: {6-Spades}{6-Clubs}

The board came {K-Spades}{4-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{Q-Spades} and both Vogelsang and Dias made their exit.

Kruk Wins Monster Pot; Zinno Busts Reinert

Nível 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Jussi Nevanlinna
Jussi Nevanlinna

The seat of Jussi Nevanlinna was occupied by Brian Reinert, but not for long. From what transpired it was Christopher Kruk who won a massive flip to bust the 2015 Master Classics of Poker champion. Przemyslaw Piotrowski opened to 9,000 and Nevanlinna then three-bet to 23,000 before Kruk four-bet jammed for 316,000.

Nevanlinna snap-called for 20,000 less with pocket queens and Kruk's ace-king won the huge flip.

Then, Brian Reinert got his stack of around 75,000 in preflop with the {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} and was flipping as well. Anthony Zinno looked him up with {A-Hearts}{K-Diamonds} and scored the knock out on a board of {J-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{K-Hearts} to see Reinert leave his chair in disgust.
