Ready For Another Big One? It's Single Day High Roller Time!

EPT Barcelona Single Day High Roller champion Martin Finger
EPT Barcelona Single Day High Roller champion Martin Finger

It was right here in Prague where Bryn Kenney pitched the idea of a single day High Roller to PokerStars' Live Events Specialist Neil Johnson. It was put on the schedule for that season's Grand Final and it was a big succes. The "Bryn Kenney" invitational as the tournament was dubbed the first time, has been on the schedule for every stop since, with varying buy ins:

SeasonEPT StopBuy InUniquesRe EntriesEntriesWinnerPrize
11EPT Grand Final€50,000541266Mustapha Kanit€936,500
12EPT Barcelona€25,00011834152Martin Finger€865,900
12EPT Malta€10,0009935134Steve O'Dwyer€327,030

Play starts at 12:30 local time where players will receive 100,000 in chips. Levels will be 30 minutes long through out the day with blinds at 500 and 1,000 the first half hour. Registration for this event closes at 5:00 pm with eliminated players having the option to re enter once till that time. The structure sheet can be found here (.pdf)

Last stop's Single Day High Roller champion Steve O'Dwyer added another goblet to his throphy room yesterday as he came out victorious in the regular €50,000 High Roller for €746,543. It's likely we'll see O'Dwyer enter today's €25,000 Single Day High Roller, though that would mean he can't enter the Main Event till the start of Day 2, or when he gets eliminated from this event.

The event in Monte Carlo was finished at 2:25 am, while the Barcelona Single Day High Roller was stopped 3-handed at 3:53 am and continued two days later. The Malta edition was done at 2:34 am, so just expect a long day of poker action right here in Prague as well. As per usual, you can follow all of it on PokerNews.com. We'll be on sight from start to finish and bring you coverage of the biggest names in poker battling it out in a high roller to be finished in just a single day!

Last night, PokerStars hosted their "Right to Play" Charity Tournament here inside the Hilton. This morning, they released the following on what turned out to be a fun and successful night...

One of the biggest highlights of this season's EPT Prague Poker Festival was the Charity Tournament which took place at the Hilton Prague raising funds for the EPT’s official charity partner Right To Play. The winner was American pro Elena Stover, who won €1,000 in live event tournament credits. Miss Finland Sara Chafak finished second and managed to get the exact prize she wanted - an iPhone® 6 Plus.

Following a special reception in the Hilton Prague, 43 players sat down to compete in the €150 buy-in event which was jointly hosted with EPT Travel. Others taking part included EPT Malta champion Niall Farrell and members of PokerStars' elite Team PokerStars Pros: Jake Cody, Chris Moneymaker, George Danzer and Theo Jorgensen.

Players were permitted unlimited €50 rebuys in the tournament, which generated a substantial prize pool with the full €8,150 going to Right to Play.

This was the first official EPT tournament in support of Right To Play and kicks off a season-long official partnership which will see similar events at all remaining stops in EPT Season 12.

Sue Hammet, Head of Corporate Giving at PokerStars, said: "Extending our partnership with Right To Play will provide an additional £300,000 through our Helping Hands programme to fund the training of another 2,500 volunteer coaches throughout the world. With this and our previous donations via our staff and players, for a total amount of £800,000 so far, we are enabling the charity to help transform the lives of over 400,000 children and young people across the world."

Right To Play uses the educational power of various sports, games and play to help children and young people to overcome the effects of poverty, disease and war.

Tum Kazunga, Head of Corporate Partnership for Right to Play, took part to the event too: "Playing is a universal language, and it is great to see how people can help and get involved in charity events doing what they like to do. Right To Play is currently helping one million children a week, and thanks to this kind of partnership we can aim to double this figure by 2018".

PokerStars players can also help support Right To Play by donating their FPPs through the PokerStars VIP store. For every 1,200 FPPs donated by a player, PokerStars will make a $20 donation to the charity.

Martin Finger Bluffs It All Off

Nível 2 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Martin Finger
Martin Finger

We missed the pre flop and flop action, but Davidi Kitai was kind enough to fill us in after the hand was over. Here's he said what happened.

Martin Finger opened from middle position and Davidi Kitai called from the hijack. One player in the blinds came along for the ride and the three of them saw a flop of {6-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{4-Clubs}. After it was checked to him, Finger made a continuation bet. Kitai called, the player in the blinds folded.

The {8-Hearts} on the turn made Finger bet 15,000. Again Kitai called and the {J-Clubs} fell on the river to complete the board. Martin Finger moved all in and Davidi Kitai snap called and showed {K-Clubs}{5-Clubs} for the nut flush. Finger slid his cards into the muck but the dealer retrieved them and tabled them as {J-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}. We're not a hundred percent sure the dealer got the right cards from the muck though, so there's a possibility Finger had something other than jack-three suited.

EPT Barcelona Single Day High Roller champion Martin Finger wasn't the first to go however, Master Classics of Poker champion Jussi Nevanlinna was the first one out today. We missed his exit. Both players still have the option to re enter before 5 pm (in 3 hours).

O'Dwyer Doubles Through Soika

Nível 3 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Steve O'Dwyer
Steve O'Dwyer

Ihar Soika raised to 3,600 and Tobias Reinkemeier three-bet to 11,000 after which the Belarusian player folded. On the very next hand Soika raised again to 3,600 and this time it was Steve O'Dwyer who three-bet to 10,300.

The action folded back to Soika, and he moved all in after a while to put O'Dwyer at risk. O'Dwyer called right away for 45,500 total, and the showdown went as following.

Soika: {K-Spades}{J-Spades}
O'Dwyer: {J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}

The flop brought {3-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{7-Spades}, and O'Dwyer said, "Faster, faster" to the dealer, looking to speed up the showdown.

The turn brought the {3-Hearts} and the river the {Q-Hearts}, and O'Dwyer doubled up.

O'Dwyer added that he would much rather see RFID cards and have the dealer press a button to see who would win the hand.

"It's just too stressful," the winner of last night's Super High Roller said with a smile.

Chris Hunichen's Hero Call Fails

Nível 4 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Chris Hunichen
Chris Hunichen

As we arrived Chris Hunichen was already deep into the tank on the river, contemplating whether to call off all of his chips or not on a board of {2-Clubs}{7-Spades}{6-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}. After the hand was finished we asked David Peters what had happened leading up to that point.

Hunichen opened for 3,000 and Jean-Noel Thorel right next to him called. David Peters in the big blind came along for the ride as well.

On the {2-Clubs}{7-Spades}{6-Clubs} flop Peters checked. Hunichen made a continuation bet of 7,000 and both Thorel and Peters made the call. The {5-Diamonds} hit the turn and Peters checked again. Hunichen fired anther 17,000 and this time just Thorel made the call, Peters folded.

The river came the {6-Hearts} and Hunichen checked with about 62,000 behind. Jean-Noel Thorel moved all in for 80,400 and Hunichen went deep into the tank. He mumbled something about hero calling and how it didn't work out the last time. He tanked some more and eventually called.

Thorel pouted like he was beat, and showed {7-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}. Hunichen got up from the table, realized he had to show his cards because it was an all in, and smashed his {4-Spades}{5-Spades} on the table.

"Were you value betting or bluffing?" Hunichen asked.

Thorel, who doesn't speak much English, didn't reply and started stacking his chips.

"Were you value betting or bluffing?" Hunichen repeated. Thorel, who still didn't speak any English, again didn't reply.

"I guess you don't know either" Hunichen said. He wished the table good luck, and made his way to the exit.

A Set For Finger, Two Pair for Markin and Nothing For McDonald

Nível 6 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante
Mike McDonald
Mike McDonald

Martin Finger raised from the button to 5,000 and Leonid Markin called from the small blind after which Mike McDonald three-bet from the big blind to 16,000. Both Finger and Markin called, creating three-way action on {7-Clubs}{2-Spades}{6-Diamonds}.

After Markin checked, McDonald bet 14,000 and both Finger and Markin made the call.

The turn was the {A-Spades} and Markin checked again after which McDonald moved all in for about 41,000 chips. Finger made the call to put McDonald at risk, and Markin tanked for a long time before folding.

Finger showed {A-Diamonds}{A-Clubs} for top set, and McDonald said, "There was a good chance you had that," as he tabled {K-Clubs}{J-Spades}.

The river brought the {Q-Hearts}, and McDonald wished the remaining players good luck before exiting the room.

"I had seven six," Markin said with a bit of a smile on his face.

"That's a good fold," Finger said, seemingly a bit surprised that the Russian player had managed tog get away from two pair.

"Yeah, I'm happy, it's a good fold," Markin added.

"I was enjoying this hand for sure," Finger said with a big smile on his face, as the other players laughed at his remark.

Finger now sits on 225,000 chips while Markin has slightly less than the starting stack.

Royal Flush For Steve O'Dwyer!

Nível 9 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Steve O'Dwyer
Steve O'Dwyer

In all my years of live reporting I've never seen a Royal Flush with my own eyes while covering a tournament, but just now none other than Super High Roller champions Steve O'Dwyer managed to hit one.

The board showed {A-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} when Thomas Muehloecker checked to Steve O'Dwyer who bet 11,000 and the Austrian pro called.

On the turn the {5-Spades} hit and Muehloecker check-called another 40,000.

The river brought the {J-Diamonds} and now Muehloecker lead out for 40,000, after which O'Dwyer paused before raising his opponent all in.

Muehloecker folded, and O'Dwyer showed {K-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}, for a royal flush.

"That's the second time ever I've had that," O'Dwyer said, as players made fun of his run-good in tournaments.

O'Dwyer Knocks Out 3 Players in One Hand!

Nível 11 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Steve O'Dwyer
Steve O'Dwyer

David Steicke moved all in for 88,000 from early position and his neighbor Steve O'Dwyer made the call. Action folded to Sam Greenwood in the small blind and he moved in for 162,000. Anthony Zinno in the big blind instantly shoved all in as well for 168,000 and the decision was back on O'Dwyer. He asked the dealer to pull in the 88,000 from Steicke to see how much extra he needed to put in. He eventually did commit those chips and it was a four way showdown.

Steve O'Dwyer: {J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}
Anthony Zinno: {K-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}
Sam Greenwood: {K-Spades}{K-Hearts}
David Steicke: {A-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}

The flop came just about as good as it could come for O'Dwyer: {4-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{J-Spades}. Both Zinno and Greenwood had to hope for runner runner queen nine to stay alive, while Steicke needed runner runner eight nine. With the {8-Spades} on the turn all hope was lost for Zinno and Greenwood while Steicke still could hit a nine to stay alive. The {6-Spades} on the river was a blank and three players were heading for the exit.

"Did you just flop 100%?" Greenwood asked with a look of disbelief on his face, followed by a smile. Zinno got up while Steicke was still wondering if he even had outs left after the flop.

With the table now short lots of players, the next hand was not dealt yet as more players had to come in first. Martin Finger got up from the table and shouted "Who wants to play with O'Dwyer?" with a big smile on his face. O'Dwyer himself couldn't believe it and with a big smile on his face he started counting his chips; 775,000.
