Win One, Lose One for the Champ, Martin Jacobson

Nível 4 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Martin Jacobson
Martin Jacobson

Martin Jacobson, reigning champion of the World Series of Poker Main Event, has been trying to make some moves early on in his Day 1. In two recent hands, Jacobson got a four-bet through to pick up some chips, but he then gave them back and then some on the very next hand.

On the first f the two hands, David Peters opened to 4,500 from the cutoff position. Erik Seidel reraised on the button to 13,300, and then Jacobson, who was seated in the big blind, four-bet to 38,000. Peters and Seidel folded.

In the small blind on the next deal of the cards, Jacobson reraised to 15,000 after Paul Newey opened to 5,500 on the button. Newey called, and the flop came down {7-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{2-Spades}. Jacobson led with a bet of 15,000, and Newey stuck around to see the {7-Hearts} land on the turn. Jacobson fired 35,000, but Newey decided it was time to play bigger and moved all in for 141,300. Jacobson quickly folded, and Newey won the pot.

Smith Fires Heavy Bullets

Nível 5 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

Just before the break, Max Silver opened for 5,000 from middle position, and Martin Kabrhel three-bet to 15,500 from the button. Dan Smith was in the big blind and cold four-bet to 42,000. Silver folded, and Kabrhel made the call.

Smith fired 31,000 on the {2-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{2-Spades} flop and another 65,000 on the {10-Diamonds} turn. Kabrhel made the call both times. The {K-Hearts} completed the board, and Smith bet everything but 500 of his chips: 196,000. Kabrhel mumbled that Smith had caught a lucky river with his {A-}{K-}, and mucked while saying, "Nice river!"

The More the Merrier

Nível 5 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante
Mike McDonald gives it another try
Mike McDonald gives it another try

Leon Tsoukernik, David Peters, and Mike McDonald all busted and bought back in. That marks the second time McDonald busted today, but at least he qualified for this event for €10,000 via a live satellite so he's only in for €210,000 so far and not €300,000.

McDonald lost his chips before the break to Thomas Muehloecker when the two of them got their chips in on a {4-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{5-Spades} board and McDonald was drawing slim with his {A-Hearts}{J-Hearts} against Muehloecker's {4-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}. The river was a low card, but not the deuce McDonald needed. Instead, the {4-Spades} popped up, which gave Muehloecker quads.

On top of the three players reentering, two new players showed up right after break as well. Rono Lo is becoming a regular on the high-stakes circuit with, amongst others, a fifth-place finish in this event last year for €493,340. Lo is also one of the players registered for the $500,000 Super High Roller Bowl coming this summer at ARIA. Shunu Zang took his seat as well. Zang is not as known as Lo, but cashed in a €10,300 side event here last year (3rd for €84,300).

Jacobson Shoves

Nível 5 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

After Fedor Holz opened with a raise from the under-the-gun position, Martin Jacobson reraised on the button to 15,000. Philipp Gruissem was in the big blind and got a look at Jacobson's stack before he reraised to 33,000. Holz folded, and Jacobson made the call, leaving himself with just about 85,000 behind.

The flop came down {K-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}, and Gruissem checked. Jacobson moved all in, and Gruissem folded.

Fours for Negreanu

Nível 5 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

From the cutoff seat, Daniel Negreanu raised to 5,400. Fabian Quoss called from the small blind, and Tony Gregg called from the big blind. The flop came out {7-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}, and action checked to Negreanu. He bet 9,000, Quoss folded, and Negreanu made the call.

The turn was the {2-Spades} to put trips on the board, and both players checked to see the {K-Diamonds} land on the river. Again, both checked.

Gregg showed {A-}{10-}, but it was no good against Negreanu's {4-Spades}{4-Diamonds}.

Zhou Folds to Colman's Bluff

Nível 5 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante
Quan Zhou - Daniel Colman
Quan Zhou - Daniel Colman

Quan Zhou opened for 6,500 from the cutoff seat, and Daniel Colman made the call on the button. Phil Ivey came along from the big blind came as well, and the flop came down {Q-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{10-Clubs}. Last year's winner, Colman, bet 8,000 after he was checked to. Ivey folded, and Zhou made the call. Colman had under 50,000 behind.

The {8-Clubs} fell on the turn, and Zhou check-called a bet of 13,000 to see the {8} pair the board on the river. Zhou checked a third time, and Colman didn't hesitate too long before he announced that he was all in for 33,800. Zhou thought for some time, showed the {J-Diamonds}, and tanked some more. He eventually folded, showing his other card, the {J-Clubs}, in the process, and Colman smiled and showed the {9-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} for a complete bluff.
