Timo Pfutzenreuter Leads As 17 Hopefuls Remain

Nível 24 : 12,000/24,000, 3,000 ante
Timo Pfützenreuter
Timo Pfützenreuter

A total of 50 players started at 12 noon for the fourth day of the PokerStars.net European Poker Tour Vienna Main Event. The plan was to play either five 90-minute levels or down to 16 players, whichever would come first. The way things started off, it looked like the latter would be the end of the day, but when it came to it, five full levels were played out and 17 players remained at at 9 p.m. local time.

Pablo Gordillo, the Spanish player who started out the day as the chip leader, continued right where he left off on Day 3. He won pots left and right, eliminating Mathias Rinnhofer in the process. Not only was he running good, he was also playing extremely well. He showed he knew how to play his cards in a hand with Julian Herold where he successfully called a big river bet with a mere pair of sixes on a dangerous board.

Former World Poker Tour Montreal winner Jonathan Roy was the second player to bust. Roy, who went deep in the EPT Prague Main Event (28th for €21,200), finished in 49th for €14,600 after his pocket tens couldn't hold up against Timo Pfutzenreuter's ace-queen. That would just be the start of it for Pfutzenreuter, who continued knocking people out. The second scalp he collected was the one of Timothy Davie.

One remarkable hand was a three-way all-in pot where no one was eliminated without it being a split. Though Michel Abecassis, Dmitry Morozov and Michael Tabarelli all survived the encounter, it wouldn't do them much good. Before the end of the day, all three were gone.

Roman Korenev wasn't feeling too well today. At least that's what we concluded after seeing him cough from time to time and take a shot of cough syrup during one of the breaks. Maybe he was getting a little ill, but a leopard can't change its spots. Korenev, who made the final table of the EPT in Berlin last year, pulled of a double check-raise. His opponent, Sebastian Trisch, was about the only one not impressed.

One-time chip leader Jozsef Olah wouldn't make it to Day 5. After hanging around with a short stack for quite some time, his luck eventually ran out. His king-ten couldn't improve against Miltiadis Kyriakides' pocket sevens and that was that.

For Dan Murariu, Day 4 was pretty successful. He won a big hand with aces versus kings, and he also kicked out Stephen Chidwick. Chidwick wasn't the only household name to be eliminated today, either. Team PokerStars Pro Marcel Lüske was sent packing early on, and so was Jude Ainsworth.

The only Team PokerStars Pro to make it to Day 5 was Johnny Lodden. The Norwegian had his ups and downs before ending the day a couple hundred thousand under average.

Just 17 players remain with Pfutzenreuter leading the way. Will Pfutzenreuter hold his ground? Or will Gordillo end up on top and become the first Spanish EPT winner? First, they'll have to fight off some more guys on Day 5, as the EPT Vienna Main Event plays down to a final table of eight. Join us again tomorrow for Day 5 of the PokerStars.net European Poker Tour Vienna at noon local time.

Pfutzenreuter Rivers a Flush and Busts Harig

Nível 24 : 12,000/24,000, 3,000 ante
Wilfried Harig
Wilfried Harig

Timo Pfutzenreuter raised to 48,000 and from his immediate left it was Simeon Naydenov who three-bet. Wilfried Sigmund Harig moved all in from Naydenov's left for about 520,000 and quickly the action folded back to Pfutzenreuter.

Pfutzenreuter made the call and Naydenov folded immediately creating a heads-up showdown.

Pfutzenreuter: {A-Spades}{Q-Spades}
Harig: {A-Clubs}{K-Spades}

The board ran out {8-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{6-Spades}{2-Spades} and the spade on the river did it for Harig, while Pfutzenreuter is now very close to having the chip lead.

Jude Ainsworth Eliminated

Nível 24 : 12,000/24,000, 3,000 ante
Jude Ainsworth
Jude Ainsworth

Jude Ainsworth opened under the gun to 50,000 with 408,000 behind. [Removed:40] from Italy was seated right behind him and made a big three bet to 200,000 even. All other player quickly folded and action was back on Ainsworth.

The Irish player thought for quite some time. He appeared not to be happy with the three bet behind him, but wasn't ready to just fold his hand. He shoved all in after some pondering and his neighbor instantly called. "You have ace-king?" Ainsworth asked with a hopeful voice. Vitagliano didn't say a thing but let his cards do the talking. And it wasn't ace-king:

[Removed:40]: {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}
Jude Ainsworth: {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}

Ainsworth needed to improve but would fail on that mission. The board would show just show blanks and Ainsworth had to leave the table. "Good game" some players said. "Good luck" he replied with a calm voice.

Big Hands Into The Muck

Nível 24 : 12,000/24,000, 3,000 ante
Frei Dilling getting busy
Frei Dilling getting busy

First off we saw Timo Pfutzenreuter raise the hijack to 40,000 and Simeon Naydenov called in the cut off position. Frei Dilling made it 150,000 to go from the small blind and Pfutzenreuter folded. Naydenov made the call and they saw a flop.

{10-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{5-Spades}

Dilling bet 135,000 and Naydenov made the call. Dilling bet out 255,000 on the {J-Spades} turn and again Naydenov made the call. The river was the {Q-Hearts} and now Dilling bet a firm 750,000. Naydenov thought about it for a little bit, and then folded his {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds} face up.

With just a couple of seconds on the clock there was one more hand to be played before the break would start. That hand would take about ten minutes so instead of a 20 minute break, some had just 10 minutes of free time.

We picked up the action again on the {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{5-Hearts} flop. There were three players involved but Frei Dilling was the only one calling the 60,000 bet Timo Pfutzenreuter made. The turn was the {9-Hearts} and this time around Pfutzenreuter bet 110,000. Dilling again called.

The river was the {2-Diamonds} and Pfutzenreuter bet out 333,000. Dilling thought about it for a good four minutes before eventually (reluctantly) folding his {K-Hearts}{Q-Spades} face up.

The Flying Dutchman Crashes

Nível 22 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Marcel Lüske
Marcel Lüske

Team PokerStars Pro and still the Number 1 on the Dutch all-time money list, Marcel Luske, has just been knocked out.

Luske raised to 32,000 before the flop and Timo Pfutzenreuter made the call from the button. The flop brought out {10-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} and Luske check-called 45,000 after which the turn brought the {8-Hearts}.

Luske checked again on the turn and Pfutzenreuter fired out 82,000. Quickly Luske moved all in for right around 330,000 and Pfutzenreuter called immediately.

Luske: {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades}
Pfutzenreuter: {6-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}

"I wanted to make some money with this hand," Luske smiled, as Pfutzenreuter apologized for cracking the Dutchman's aces.

On the river the {3-Diamonds} popped up and Luske hit the rail after once again making a very deep run in an EPT Main Event.

Lodden Busts Alilovic

Nível 22 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Miroslav Alilovic
Miroslav Alilovic

Johnny Lodden opened to 25,000 from the cut off and was met by three bet from Miroslav Alilovic who made it 62,000 from the small blind. The big blind folded, Lodden made the call.

{Q-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}

Alilovic checked and Lodden checked behind.

The {9-Diamonds} fell on the turn and Alilovic checked to Lodden. The Team PokerStars Pro made a 57,000 bet. Alilovic had other plans though and check raised to 120,000. Lodden called in position and awaited the river.

Meanwhile the clock was ticking down and people were starting to get up from the table to take their break. The {8-Diamonds} fell on the river and Alilovic pushed all in for 281,000.

Lodden made the call after some heavy thinking. Alilovic mucked his cards and left the table with hanging shoulders. Lodden showed {9-Spades}{8-Spades} for the bluff catcher, Alilovic's hand turned out to be {K-Clubs}{J-Spades}.
