Welcome to the 2014 PokerStars and Monte-Carlo® Casino EPT Grand Final €100,000 Super High Roller

Lovely Monaco!
Lovely Monaco!

Season 10 of the European Poker Tour is fresh off a record-making stop in Sanremo, Italy, where Team PokerStars Pro Vicky Coren Mitchell topped a field of 556 players to become the first player to ever win two EPT Main Event titles. It was history in the making, but now it's on to bigger things... at least in terms of buy-in.

The 2014 PokerStars and Monte-Carlo® Casino EPT Grand Final, the last stop of the season, kicks off today with the €100,000 Super High Roller from the beautiful Salles des Etoiles room at Le Sporting. This marks the fourth and final Super High Roller of the season after Vitaly Lunkin outlasted 50 other players to win the €50,000 buy-in event in Barcelona; Martin Finger emerged victorious over a 57-entry field to win the £50,000 event in London for £821,000; and Fabian Quoss topped a field of 56 to win the one at the 2014 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure €100,000 buy-in Super High Roller for more than $1.6 million in prize money.

As for this event, last year's tournament attracted 41 players that accounted for nine reentries, which brought the field up to 50 and created a prize pool of €4,851,000. Players in last year's event included Phil Ivey, Antonio Esfandiari, Erik Seidel and Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu, and we're expecting many of them to be in action today.

In fact, tournament officials expect this year’s €100,000 Super High Roller at the PokerStars and Monte-Carlo®Casino EPT Grand Final could rival or even top last year’s event, which was won by online high stakes cash game player Max Altergott. The 23-year-old German took down the prestigious event for a massive €1,746,400 first prize. Altergott will no doubt return looking for a title defense, and for the first time ever a group of Macau high rollers will be in attendance. One of those high rollers, or at least a poker pro who has been playing in Macau, is none other than Alec Torelli, who will be in action today:

Gearing Up

The roof is open and sunlight is streaming into tournament area where seven tables have been setup for the Super High Roller event but no-one is sitting down just yet. It looks as though play won't start for at least another ten minutes.

Every EPT stop features a program for players, and in it EPT President Edgar Stuchly offers a welcome message. He is the one from the 2014 PokerStars and Monte-Carlo® Casino EPT Grand Final:

This week we will crown our final Main Event champion of the 'EPT decade,' and we will do it grand style. If you're a tour regular, you know we have partnered with the France Poker Series for our events in Deauville. Now, for the first time, the partnership brings the FPS to Monaco. That means not only will you get the big money action you expect from the EPT, but you'll also have a chance to play a wide variety of events at affordable and fun buy-ins.

We're extremely excited to bring cash games back to Monaco, and this year we've expanded our offerings again. We aim to provide you with the best cash game dealers and top service for your action. What's more, if you have made Open-Face Chinese Poker your new game of choice, we have specialized tables just for you. Be sure to check out the cash game area for our custom pentagonal tables made specifically for OFC games.

After this week, we'll take a brief break, but we'll be back at the end of the summer for Season 11 and the EPT Barcelona where we will celebrate the 100th EPT Main Event.

For now, go out and see all the beauty and opulence Monaco has to offer, and then come back to celebrate this final festival of Season 10 with us.
